anyone know what they are protesting? There were a couple of them out there this morning when I went by. Only sign I could read said something to the effect of Jim Goodnight being a "SAShole".If this is about the layoffs that occurred out there, my pity is going to be low because pretty much every company in the triangle has had layoffs. It sucks, but such is life.
7/17/2006 10:08:29 AM
yeah, and I hear SAS is a dream to work for, but everyone's resources are limited and the market's taking a hit ... if layoffs is what it's about I'm on Jim's side
7/17/2006 10:14:34 AM
oh boo fuckin hoo, no one's job is promised forever
7/17/2006 10:17:18 AM
thats what I am saying. fuck it, considering what an amazing work environment they have over there, I would RISK layoffs just to work there. Like I said, it does suck to lose your gig, no doubt, but protesting really seems lame.then again maybe they are picketing something else?
7/17/2006 10:19:16 AM
they're spoiled, they can't possibly work for anyone else now.
7/17/2006 10:21:04 AM
I'm not sure why they would picket. There's no better way to say - if things ever do pick up in the future, be sure I'm not on your list of potential re-hires.
7/17/2006 10:23:27 AM
i heard it was from the layoffsnot from anyone official though
7/17/2006 10:29:59 AM
I drive by there every day on my way home, I thought one guy's sign said he got fired because he had AIDS. If that were true he wouldnt be picketing, he'd have their ass in court over that shit.Bunch of worthless whiny bitches lost their jobs. Real people would be out looking for more work and not wasting their time and OUR money collecting wellfare while picketing with their bitch and moan attitudes outside SAS.
7/17/2006 10:40:35 AM
yeah, it was something like "jim goodnight fired me because i'm HIV positive"

One of the guys who was laid off has AIDS. So firing him was discriminatory, but it wasn't for the 71 other people who were laid off.
7/17/2006 11:28:47 AM
^ I saw the guy outside with a sign that said:
7/17/2006 11:31:25 AM
^^firing him was discriminatory... if he was fired because he has AIDS. which he probably wasn't.
7/17/2006 11:31:56 AM
yeah, that was sarcasm
7/17/2006 11:33:01 AM
gotcha. sorry about that...
7/17/2006 11:41:14 AM
7/17/2006 12:05:49 PM
lol SASshole
7/17/2006 12:47:14 PM
^^ publicly traded company gets money at ipo. they don't give refunds if the price drops
7/17/2006 1:25:55 PM
^^ i loled
7/17/2006 1:49:53 PM
the "market" affects more than publicly traded companies
7/17/2006 1:52:58 PM
True, but the recent drop in the markets isn't going to manifest layoffs this quickly. Short term blips and market corrections have negligible effect on private companies. If we were in the middle of a recession, I'd buy it, but we're not.
7/17/2006 2:33:06 PM
yea, the layoffs are from increased competition, not the stock market.
7/17/2006 3:09:29 PM
I should be the one protesting because I have to learn how to use their fucking software
7/17/2006 3:11:33 PM
"market" means a lot more than the stock market
7/17/2006 3:28:30 PM

7/17/2006 4:26:39 PM
That guy is no one special:http://www.wral.com/news/9502972/detail.htmlGraphic design = marketing department =/= being fired for having AIDS
7/17/2006 4:35:24 PM
fuck that guy, what a whiny bitch. He walked out on work, he got fired. having HIV has nothing to do with itI should throw something at him on my way home today
7/17/2006 4:39:54 PM
throw him a condom [Edited on July 17, 2006 at 5:10 PM. Reason : or a dirty needle]
7/17/2006 5:09:57 PM
the word around campus is that the guy isn't exactly stable
7/17/2006 5:41:28 PM
people get fired everyday - i guess they are just mad b/c people rarely get fired there much less laid off
7/17/2006 5:44:26 PM
So...instead of working to get another job, it seems he spends his time sitting on street corners to make a point. And should he go job hunting, if they google his name, he's screwed.Seems like this little life or death matter of HIV+ status doesn't really matter all that much to him.
7/17/2006 6:35:12 PM
After seeing how their employees are babied, its no wonder they are protesting.hell, SAS is almost like working for Google. You think they want to get a real job now?
7/17/2006 6:38:08 PM
7/17/2006 6:38:48 PM
he walks out gets fired. big deal. plz. im tired of seeing this guy in front of my work.
7/18/2006 10:20:16 AM
has SAS every laid off in the past? As far as I know, no; they've been hiring and relying on attrition, so after a while every company has to make the tough decisions. Sucks to be on the blade side, but shit happens.
7/18/2006 10:57:12 AM
I just went and looked at this guys website and all I have to say is: Tough Shit! Why should this guy be treated special because he is HIV+? sucks you got fired, but so did a lot of other people. People that might have health issues of their own or kids or mortgages or car payments or any number of other things that require them to have a salary. Yet this douchebag thinks that he deserves special treatment because he is HIV+? OMG, I want to go throw shit at this asshole or at the very least heckle him!
7/18/2006 11:21:42 AM
he was on the other side of Harrison Ave yesterday as I was on my way home, too far for me to be heard. Maybe he'll be on the other side of the road today
7/18/2006 11:32:07 AM
i see him every morning driving into sas...i'm in a division that was just restructured and a lot of people were laid off in that process...it happens and luckily, sas hasn't had to do it often. with that comes a lack of experience, so i wouldn't say that sas is great at letting go of employees.but, it happens...i feel bad for the guy because if he applied this much energy to getting another job, he would surely be hired by now.oh today (tues) there was a new sign..."it's hot out here" and he was under an umbrella[Edited on July 19, 2006 at 1:12 AM. 7/19/2006 12:56:11 AM
Three people with SAS that I talked to said it isn't as great as everyone thinks. As a matter of fact, two of the three are now FORMER employees. They said they just didn't like the work and the management hierarchy.
7/19/2006 1:32:00 AM
^ I've actually heard the same out of a few people who worked at SAS myself, and they left of their own choice before the layoffs.Maybe SAS isn't what it used to be in terms of being a dream job. *shrug*
7/19/2006 8:54:53 AM
with ANY company, your satisfaction is driven by the quality of your manager...if you have a bad manager...you will have a bad job.just look at http://www.zencos.com they drive more revenue for sas than any other partner and the 3 principals are former sas employees. i know for a fact that one left directly because of a new manager...so it happens, but that doesn't reflect on the company every time...there are micromanagers and bad managers out there...[Edited on July 19, 2006 at 9:18 AM.
