Get ParitionMagic 8.0 (or whatever version it is now) and go from there. I've used that to resize partitions and it works great.

doesn't vista have problems installing as a dual boot?

probablyit is a beta afterall

When you install vista it comes dual boot by default and works fine. I actually wasn't able to use partitionmagic because of errors on my drive so i just made new partitions when i reformated. When you start your computer it asks you if you want to boot in Windows (Vista) or an older version. So far the only problem I have had is that there are no good 5.1 drivers for Vista.

i tried just straight installing vista and it tried to overwrite XP, so i was like stop, how do i get around this, also since this is a loaner from the bookstore they dont somehow have the ability to install a new operating system blocked or something do they?

I think if you overwrite it you can still boot into the old version but I'm not sure. The first time I installed it I just installed it over XP and I know the boot screen came up I just never tried going into the old version.

Why are you going through so many problems trying to install Vista on this laptop anyway?
7/17/2006 10:23:39 AM
^because i wanna fuck around with vista before i turn it back in to the bookstore, i dont wanna do it on my personal laptop because A. it doesn't have enough hard drive space(too much porn i figure) and B. if it fucks up it dont matter i wont lose any information or anythingand i can choose which partition to install it on, i just have to create one first^^thanks i'll try that when i get home

If you do it right, you don't have to worry about losing any info. I've installed plenty of OSes on my primary drive where all my shit is.

partition magic

^^not concerned with the install itself as much as the stability of vistaand like i said before i dont have neough space on my personal laptop to instal it, that and its still at the ibm shop getting repaired
