what haven't you owned already?
7/15/2006 2:06:20 AM
Let's see, I've owned a heavily modified 944, 6 944 turbos and a 944 Turbo S (ranging from light bolt ons to full track cars). Then there's the BMWs... An e30 325, 2 e36 325s (one w/HR cup kit, wheels, sway bars, etc., and one with M3 susp), an e36 M3 (my fave. so far), a 540i sport/6 speed, a new gen Saab 900 turbo SE (with mods), an Accord V6 coupe, a Prelude Si, VW Jetta GLI, Golf GTi, Scirocco S. A Volvo 740 turbo wagon, 2 Volvo 850 turbo wagons (one w/an R engine). An Audi 4000 Quattro CS, a couple of bikes, etc. I'm sure I'm missing some. Anyway, MUST be rwd and manual. Can possibly go non-German, but don't prefer to. I've considered the 996 chasis 911 but think that they may be expensive to own. I keep flirting w/the idea of a C5 vette, but I really don't like driving them other than the power/sound, and would hate to be seen in one. M5s and e46 M3s seem heavy and the latter is sure to continue to depreciate, esp. as the e92 comes out. The M5 is pushing it for the size of car I want. The GTO is also up there and too heavy. I do like the CTS-V, but it seems like it would depreciate and is also heavy. I really don't feel like I have much of a choice but another M3 (maybe w/more radical mods this time), or if I get the itch maybe another 944 turbo. However, I don't want to have too much of a lobsided car ownership experience, so I'm trying to be objective, and go through a variety of cars, but it seems like I keep coming back to this whole Porsche/BMW thing. I've got a pathfinder right now. It's fun in it's own way, but I want a 'car'. BTW, the wagons were very much cool. I would own an m3 wagon if I could, and I would've bought an STi/EVO wagon new, if they were offered. I love wagons. Ahmet

if you have the money for maintenance i think an S4 would be a neat car to own. But from what i know from black forrest and slut... they're all pretty expensive to maintain.

Supra's also too heavy/disconnected feeling. I've driven an S2k, and it isn't me, even though I like them. They don't have enough torque, and are a bit too small. The S4 is quite the car, I came close to buying one more than once but reliability scared me. I would've bought it if the steering wasn't as numb as it is on them though. One of my favorite cars, but seems best enjoyed as a GT car rather than a sports sedan. That is just about right for the size of car I prefer though.I considered 300zx tts, I know they're a pain to work on, but I do like those cars. I also like the NSX, I've never driven one. Perhaps I'll go test drive one and see what I think If I found a good deal on either of these cars, I think I might buy one.AMG Benz is out, no autos for me. H1's obviously not going to do either.Ahmet

Ahmet, I have to admit I've gained some of your appreciation for wagons recently. Dunno why. I'm not ready to buy one yet, but they're growing on me Along those lines, have you considered a regular WRX wagon? If you got an older one, you could put some money into upgraded suspension and handling, and maybe even a bit in power. I just think it would be hilarious to have a wagon that could toast a lot of cars out there while looking like a grocery hauler to most people, heheh.

MR2 is a bit small. I have thought about both an RX-7 and an MR2 turbo. The WRX is too soft in stock form (just about the right size though) but more importantly they feel too 'thin' or unsubstential in typical japanese car fashion (an S2k is a good exception to this, as is a miata/RX-7, and I suppose possibly the NSX). I am looking at NSXs, haven't seen anything crazy, feel free to give me any heads up if you come across one. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm thinking a supercharged M3 4 door is really what I should get again. Ahmet
7/16/2006 3:05:27 PM
NSXI knew way too many highschool kids with E36 M3'sand that rx-7 somebody posted has probably 6k left on that motor and does not boost correctly. And I'm saying that as an Rx-7 owner... it takes a certain type of person to own the 3rd generation of those cars.
7/16/2006 3:17:51 PM
The highschool kids had red or black 2 doors though. I am looking for a white/green/silver 4 door. Bonus points on the M3 for being practical and a asleeper. W/coil overs +supercharger, it should be pretty fast and plenty reliable.I do like the NSX. It's not as practical, but hey. As I said, I've started looking. The RX7 does irk me w/it's reliability, funny that's what's pushing me to the M3. They seem bulletproof as track cars, and I've yet to see any boosted car run w/out trouble in the long term on track, let alone RX-7s (usually they carry extra pre-mixed gas, blow hoses/radiators, etc. quite often). As for the Celica, it's a cool car and all, but japanese and bad weight distribution/driving dynamics (It is the AWD version of a FWD car, and the engine is still transverse).Ahmet

I'm around a bunch of classic cars all day. Call me a wuss but I want something I can drive effortlessly if I wish. Something that's still fun, safe, fairly economical (but of course that's relative), etc. Sure if I was in a position to have multiple cars, a classic Jag would be on the list, but...Ahmet
