...Hit ctrl+alt+del to Restart.


I get this message after the "compaq" startup screen, and can't even get close to running Windows. WTF?

(posting at work)

Did I lose it all?
Hard drive dead?
Emergency diskette?
Reformat?

Any suggestions before I sit on the phone with COMPAQ or Windows for 2 hours?

most probably a hard drive failure.

My suggestion would be to take the hard drive out, stick it in an external USB enclosure and test it on another computer first. That way you can tell if it's the drive or the computer (say a RAM failure or such).
