Hiring Manager: Clifton Eakes

The Desktop Support Technician is responsible for assisting our current I.T. staff with day to day desktop and end user support of 400 desktop/laptop computers. Position will provide day to day user support and be responsible for assisting with the formatting, installing and configuring Windows 2000 and XP Professional and installing all necessary drivers, and software per our organizations standards, as well as assisting with computer & software inventorying. The Desktop Support Tech will also work with other employees directly, via phone, and e-mail for their support needs. The ability to travel for short regional trips is desirable and should be considered when applying for this position. AA degree in Computer Information Systems or Computer Science with 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent experience preferred.

I asked about pay, they wouldn't tell me an actual number but said it is basically entry level. No part timers.

i doubt that much but what do i know

thats close to 40K a year for a no BS degree required position

i would think something closer to 25K-30K would be offered but whatdoiknow

Benefits are pretty decent. Not fully paid for but employee costs are something around $40/month. Doctor visits cost $15 so do prescriptions. $500 deductible 10% coinsurance

We just have 2 IT guys now. One in California and one in RTP. And both have just been swamped lately.

Company match 401K at 50% with max at 3%...pretty typical. You wouldn't work with customers, only internal employees.

Oh and those pictures, I don't think any of those people work for us.

Damn son, you guys need to go out and have some fun together.

How much potential is there for advancement within the company? How much freedom/exploratory time will you have with job duties/responsibilities? Starting somewhere is fine ... going somewhere is another story.

We have many positions throughout the company, and Yamas supports having career paths. If you really like meetng with customers then there is always sales but that is usually down the road after you learn the business. There is also a position of Field Engineer that pretty much deals directly with customers and then there is software engineer (programmer) who sometimes gets to get out of the office, about once a week or so, and sometimes will work directly with the customer.

^"freedom/exploritory time". Well, it is a computer support position, knowing how to debug our software shouldn't be required right off, but jumping in and setting up a laptop with windows XP and helping other employees with their general computing questions would be expected I would think.

I've seen 25% up to 6% which is basically the same, but who the hell caps it at 3%

as in you put in 6% they put in 3%. You can put away 15% I think.
