If you are from the south, and have lived here all of your life, haven't you noticed an influx of Yankees’ moving down here to the south?
7/12/2006 7:48:38 PM
yes
7/12/2006 7:53:54 PM
What is the big attraction for the yankees to come to the south???
7/12/2006 7:55:25 PM
1. there are less northerners in the south
7/12/2006 7:57:42 PM
they want to soak up all that southern charm and converse with intellectuals
7/12/2006 7:58:42 PM
Maybe us southern folk should go up north and become Southern Transplants [Edited on July 12, 2006 at 8:01 PM. Reason : ]
7/12/2006 8:00:43 PM
go aheadnobody will even care
7/12/2006 8:01:39 PM
1.get a better job2.buy a better house (or, in many cases, buy one at all)
7/12/2006 8:05:33 PM
7/12/2006 8:07:14 PM
so cry about itif you don't like it, you can leave
7/12/2006 8:08:20 PM
^Well damn...there's some of that obnoxiousness right thar.
7/12/2006 8:14:05 PM
i was born in the south, so it has nothing to do with being a 'yankee'
7/12/2006 8:15:24 PM
Well goddamn boy...who's cryin?I got roots here. They can leave.Personally, I don't give a rat's ass. But they are sendin' the property values (and hence taxes) through the fuckin' roof.[Edited on July 12, 2006 at 8:17 PM. Reason : shit]

This thread has been done to death about a thousand times overPeople in the South can either continue to bitch, piss, and moan like little school girls that their precious homeland is being invaded by 'Yankees'; OR they can realize that there's nothing they can do about it and if it's so bothersome, there's PLENTY of rural and undeveloped land in other parts of the country where they can be as narrowminded and xenophobic as they want.
7/12/2006 8:23:07 PM
we come down here because we want to get closer to Jesus and watch cars turn left a bunch of times.
7/12/2006 8:25:57 PM
My parents moved to NC from Ohio when I was nine because:my mom would make more moneyit was close to the beach, but not so close that we'd get hit by every hurricane that passed byit was warmerThey didn't give a crap about being yankees or southern hospitality or sweet tea or anything else. North Carolina was one of many states on their list of possible places to move. And I'm pretty sure that weather was the main reason they picked it. They like it still. I don't. I left. It's hilarious to me that you people talk about how great and wonderful the south is, and then sit there and bash everyone who isn't from there. If you treat northerners, or southerners, or easterners, or anyone else like shit, they're probably not going to be very nice to you either. And then you're going to sit there and say, "I hate those Yankees!!!" like you're totally blameless.I've never met such rude people in my life as I have in the south.
7/12/2006 8:33:14 PM
why do yankees talk so loud, and why is there manner of speech so curt? hopefully they will be exposed to some southern hospitality...its only a matter of time before that becomes extinct as well
7/12/2006 8:33:29 PM
if southerners could fill the jobs, yankees wouldn't come
7/12/2006 8:35:05 PM
damn this topic is covered like every week or so
7/12/2006 8:46:00 PM
7/12/2006 8:46:18 PM
wahhhh yankees i'm so fucking angry they're making the region more affluent
7/12/2006 9:02:28 PM
im from California.what does that make me?
7/12/2006 9:07:52 PM
a sucker for moving to the south
7/12/2006 9:12:51 PM
The biggest gripe I have is that the area is getting more and more congested.I've been around here for 31 years, and at times it's kind of disheartening to watch everything crowd in around you.If I could find an engineering job down east, then I would seriously think about going there. I would love to have 10 acres or more of land...and that's impossible here. 20 or 25 years ago, it wasn't.Of course, 20 or 25 years ago I couldn't have bought land if I wanted to.It's a Catch-22. There's lots of industry here and a good chance at a good career...where there's not elsewhere.I truly don't care where you come from as long as you have respect for me. I will respect you unless you give me reason to do otherwise.

I've lived in eastern NC my whole life, and I haven't really noticed any yankees. How much is there to notice, anyways? We're all Americans. We have the same TV and music. I'm supposed to pay attention that some people speak somewhat more properly, act somewhat less hospitable, and don't like sweet tea?I don't have problems with Raleigh getting bigger, either, when prestigious companies and economic success come with it. It's not all that crowded.
7/13/2006 11:45:30 AM
what pisses me off is yankees making fun of my southern accent...when we're in fucking NC...if you dont like my southern accent, I will gladly give you the number of a moving company and directions to I-95 north.[Edited on July 13, 2006 at 11:55 AM. Reason : ,]
7/13/2006 11:54:45 AM
ive noticed itand appreciate it
7/13/2006 11:56:29 AM
Yes, I have noticed. And I actually don't like it. I don't waste time talking about it though, especially when my opinion on this matter is totally baseless and more just about my feelings and very vague shit.
7/13/2006 12:01:17 PM
i've lived in north carolina since i was 3 and honestly it still seems like good oll north carolina to memountains to the west and beaches to the east
7/13/2006 12:01:59 PM
i like how much you motherfuckers hate on racism but have no problem discrimintating against people who were born in a different part of the country.People up north dont give a fuck about southerners who come up there, because they arent that easily thrown off kilter. Jesus isnt coming back, people, fucking deal with it.
7/13/2006 12:18:15 PM
^You should think twice before comparing racism to mild regionalism, which for me, does not include discriminating against anybody. Like I said, these are very vague feelings...just barely worth noting.[Edited on July 13, 2006 at 12:28 PM. Reason : sss]

To me it has less to do with Northern vs Southern and more to do with urban vs rural. I've met all kinds of people from north, south, east and west and the mindsets tend to be similar for those from urban areas. Likewise mindsets for those in rural areas tend to be the similar. For example, I recently saw a revision of the New Hampshire motto which stated "Live free or die (or move back to Massachusetts)" which tells me that there are Yankees who have to deal with what they see as an influx of people they don't like too. In any case, as long as someone doesn't move to an area and constantly complain about how great it was where they lived before then I have no problem.

7/13/2006 12:28:57 PM
^^that's a good generalization, but it isn't always the caseeven in big Southern cities like Atlanta and Charlotte people STILL bring up the whole 'yankee' bullshit[Edited on July 13, 2006 at 12:30 PM. Reason : asdf]

To whoever commented "I'm from Eastern NC and haven't noticed so many yankees".... it's because they're not east of I-95... they're all near the park (and most notably) Cary. Probably because of the proximity to jobs. But yeah, I'm not a big fan of the booming growth. I <3 Raleigh but I want a house on a lot of land so looks like I'll be out wayyyy past Clayton (which, btw... is growing like crazy, too).OH... wait, they're not east of I-95 unless you're at Emerald Isle... then it's like little New Jersey. Not sure why everyone up north comes and buys beach property here... I guess it's not as inflated as it is around the Jersey Shore?? (Not sure, and I don't feel like researching beach property value up north)
7/13/2006 12:34:02 PM
uh maybe the beaches in NC are nicer than ones up North?just a wild guess...
7/13/2006 12:35:20 PM
the yanks'll fix that
7/13/2006 12:36:41 PM
I haven't read this thread, so I don't know if its been mentioned, but a big reason i hear of people leaving my company (or moving to one of our southern facilities) and moving south is the cost of living. its much cheaper to live in the south then in the northeast.if you ask to be transfered to a southern facility, or even if you take a new job in the south, more then likely you arent going to take a pay decrease, so you can afford more on the same budget.
7/13/2006 12:37:20 PM
^^^ well they are... but it's not exactly a weekend house if it takes you 6-9 hours to get there. I dunno, I guess my perception of what a beach house is for is just a little different. I work here all week, then I go down to the beach every weekend but I guess if you're from Jersey and own down here you either come for the whole summer or rent it out and come on the 4th of July.[Edited on July 13, 2006 at 12:38 PM. 7/13/2006 12:37:27 PM
FUCK YOU ALL WE'RE TAKING OVER THE SOUTHactually I moved here from NY when I was like 5, so I'm not sure I count
7/13/2006 12:37:31 PM
7/13/2006 12:41:24 PM
^^you're ok you've had enough time to be indoctrinated to our superior culture.
7/13/2006 12:42:55 PM
^^^If I ruled the South, I wouldn't claim you.I'm seriously about to get worked up over here, folks. Y'all are about to see some of the most ignorant, angry shit I've ever posted (and I've posted some pretty ignorant, angry shit...).I TRIED TO BURY MY FEELINGS DEEP DOWN INSIDE, BUT FOURTEEN GENERATIONS IN THIS STATE WILL ALWAYS BRING THEM OUT.I mean, PackMan92, it's about history. The South was an extremely poor region. Genertations of our families are marked by harsh poverty so it almost seems disrespectful to our ancestors when someone comes down here for twenty years and thinks they're a Southerner. It entails a lot more than that.
7/13/2006 12:50:59 PM
there are places in the north that are just as country as most places in nc.hell, drive through south jersey.not all northerners are urban.comparing regioinalism to racism is fucking absurd.the united states is a melting pot anyways, just deal with it.i moved to the "north" into an urban setting a few weeks ago, and dont find it much different than many urban centers in the south. and yes, many northerners do sitll harbor silly regionalisms just like southerners do about northerners. so dont play that card.
7/13/2006 12:53:18 PM
^^i think it goes back to things like pre civil war unfair taxation of the south, or Sherman's total war policy in the last stages of the civil war....completely destroying towns his army went through. The contempt trickled down through the generations.[Edited on July 13, 2006 at 12:57 PM. Reason : ^]
