"That experience included such things as a sense of pure awareness and a merging with ultimate reality, a transcendence of time and space, a feeling of sacredness or awe, and deeply felt positive mood like joy, peace and love. People say "they can't possibly put it into words," Griffiths said.

Two months later, 24 of the participants filled out a questionnaire. Two-thirds called their reaction to psilocybin one of the five top most meaningful experiences of their lives. On another measure, one-third called it the most spiritually significant experience of their lives, with another 40 percent ranking it in the top five.

About 80 percent said that because of the psilocybin experience, they still had a sense of well-being or life satisfaction that was raised either "moderately" or "very much."

I was laughing my ass of at this article earlier. I've always wanted to try some hallucinogens. The article really has nothing bad to say about them, but then the subjects comment that it was the best experience of their life. Hmm...

^ if you do them try to do so with someone that has done them before, or at least around good friends. Had 2 friends both kind of freak out for a while on them (mostly scared that they weren't going to come down). Others had no problem at all. And it can last upwards of 8hrs so you have to put some time aside to do them. And I recommend changing enviroments throughout the trip, don't just spend the whole time in one room. And dont do anything like watching TV or playing video games. It usually just kills it in my experience.

Who's got some?

by the way

Shut up slut chew up this mushroom
This will help you get in touch with your roots
Walking barefoot butt naked and run in the woods
(Oh hell i might as well try them this party is so drag)
Oh dag I didnt mean for you to eat the whole bag (Uhhh?)
Chorus (2x)
Yo Sue (Get away from me i dont know you)
Oh shoot shes tripping (I need to go puke)
I wasnt trying to turn this into somehting major
I just wanted to make you appreciate nature
Susie stop crying I dont hate ya
The world is not against you
I am sorry your father raped you
So you had your little coochie in your dad's mouth
That aint no reason to start wiggin and spaz out
She said (Help me I think I am having a seisure)
I said I am high too bitch
Quit grabbing my t-shirt (Let go)
Would you calm down you are starting to scare me
She said (I am 26 years old and I am not married I dont even have any
kids and
I cant cook)
I am over here Sue
You are talking to the plant
Look we need to get to a hospital
Before it is too late
Cause I never seen one eat as many shrooms as you ate

I wish I were part of this study; that lab-produced psilocybin sounds like the bomb.

Or I had some dank shit when I tripped.

I'm not sure that makes sense. Their shrooms sound (really good) or the shrooms you had were (really good)?

This would make sense. "either they have some really good shrooms or the shrooms i had weren't good at all." But maybe my reading comp. skills are a little off.

I'm pretty sure I read that there were placebo's. They're probably not going to do a study without a control group.

Quote :
"i mean, why have a placebo.......the people would know whether they were taking one or not"

If you mean that they would know if they were tripping or not I agree, that's if they've tripped before. Once you've tripped you know what to expect and when you're tripping. I also know when i'm drunk off my ass and when i'm not. But if you've never tripped you have nothing as a reference for your current state, same with drinking or anything else for that matter. I bet some people who had the placebo thought or pretended they were tripping at least a little bit.

I think the confusion is arising from your differing views on the definition of "dank"

^ yeah i thought about that. But i had never heard someone use "dank" to mean bad. I even looked it up on urban dictionary in case I was just in the dark. But couldn't find a negative connotation for it. And there is the actual definition meaning "moist or wet" (where the use of dank for good weed comes from), but i don't think that's what he ment.

^^^ good point. But there's a big difference between psychological addiction (or just wanting to do something), which is usually just a matter of will power, and physical addiction

there is no benefit to doing recreational drugs of any kind...if you feel the need to use mind-altering substances to have a good time, you're a loser

Have you ever done any recreational drugs? Shrooms specifically? I doubt anybody on here feels they need to do drugs in order to have a good time. They probably do them for the same benefit peope get when they watch a movie, play a video game, read a book etc.. Someone doing shrooms doesn't affect you in anyway, why do you have a problem with it and feel the need to call them losers?

If someone actually feels they need drugs to have a good time then I agree that they probably have some problems. Wouldn't call them a loser, but they certainly should probably see someone about it. But there is a big difference between doing something to have a good time and feeling like you have to do something in order to have a good time.

^If you read my entire post, I was referring to the subjects having such a profound experience to the point where they were one with time and space. Thus, the lab must have produced some bomb-ass psilocybin. Or, I had some dank shrooms when I tripped, assuming cow patch shrooms give people this effect (because I never had such an experience).

How did this not make sense, when taking into account my entire post (quote included)?

i think it was the way you're using "dank". I've only ever heard it used to mean really good or potent.

So in that context it seemed like you were saying "either they had really potent shrooms or I had really potent shrooms"

but you ment "either they had really potent shrooms or I had shitty shrooms"

Right?

"The study volunteers had an average age of 46, had never used hallucinogens, and participated to some degree in religious or spiritual activities such as prayer, meditation, discussion groups or religious services. Each tried psilocybin during one visit to the lab and the stimulant methylphenidate (better known as Ritalin) on one or two other visits. Only six of the volunteers knew when they were getting psilocybin."

it seems that all but the six volunteers noted were aware of the psilocybin dosage. i'm guessing the volunteers were vaguely told that they would simply receive a drug, but were not told specifically what.

the point of recreational drugs is just that - for recreation. sure, there may be those who use drugs as a crutch, much in the same way alcoholics consume alcohol. many users of weed and shrooms simply enjoy them. it's fun. they don't have to do it in order to have fun, but it's that they/we want to do it. it's the very same as any other hobby or activity, such as driving, playing instruments, engaging in sports, working out, hiking, watching movies, etc. you wouldn't say that someone who likes to play basketball at the gym every other day is a "loser" because he plays basketball regularly to have fun, would you?

the benefits of recreational drugs are the same as those other things. some might like the heightening of their senses for their artistic endeavors or work, others may use them for painkilling, some others may just like the relaxed feelings, others may like the energy boost... people use recreational drugs and have other hobbies for a number of reasons unique to them.

My bad, I thought "dank" referred to bad drugs. When I heard about "dank" weed, I was thinking it was bad weed. I guess this is a case of using words where one doesn't know the specific meaning of it. Total n00bage.

But yeah, I meant either the lab produced psilocybin was good shit or the stuff I tripped on was terrible.
