Darwin always finds a way.

^Actually, no. People who don't wear seat belts in the backseat put the folks up front in danger, not just themselves. That said, I like not wearing my seat belt sometimes. But, at the same time, if I ever caused a huge accident, I'd hope all passengers involved were wearing their seat belts. I could never scrub that blood off my hands.

Does this mean Billybob and Pedro cannot ride in the back of the pickup truck anymore ? And they have the unmitigated gaul to chaulk it up to "cost to soceity" from people doing damage to their own cars and healthcare. How about the cost to soceity of people leaching off the public tit. If they reduced the role of state government it wouldn't even be an issue. Make people pay for their own medical bills in most circumstances. If something unusual happens and that individual hasn't got insurance then they should not get free care as a reward for their carelessness. Instead, give them care, but make them pay it back in the years to come. No more free rides for the slackers of soceity. There's a real way to reduce the "cost to soceity" of accidents involving unbuckled seatbelts( and much much more). Of course that wouldn't raise any money to ingratiate the citizens into keeping those bums in office another termCost to soceity... whatever...

^ oh shut the fuck up.you couldnt pay for one goddamn medical bill if the state of north carolina wasnt subsidizing your extended education, and your taxpayer-funded FREE HEALTHCARE.go drive your car off a cliff okay? ill be happy to contribute the miniscule fraction of a tax point to your collective long term care once youve gone brain dead and have to eat through a tube. just from reading your posts, i imagine it won't be very far from the condition from where you currently are, but at least then you wont be posting your retarded drivel to this forum.

if all passengers have to be buckled - insurance should go down slightly - but it won't
7/11/2006 2:03:24 PM
is it weird that you have to be buckled up in a car, yet motorcycles are legal?always seemed like a double standard to me.

no shit. it just strikes me as odd that seatbelts are mandatory, yet the government is fine with motorcycles, which generally are much more dangerous than any car (with or without seatbelts). i'm having trouble wording this well
7/11/2006 5:01:22 PM
i think the argument you are looking for is....i can't believe this is being talked about and there are states that don't require motorcyclists to wear a helmet
7/11/2006 5:20:49 PM
bingo
7/11/2006 5:25:54 PM
ooooh, I read that wrong.I thought you were asking why the gov't doesnt force motorcyclists to wear seatbelts.

7/12/2006 8:32:54 PM
ive got one doing real-world engineering R&D. and its a helluvalot different than teaching stupid undergradutes or assisting some professor's research.you're 22 years old, and havent known anything other than school. so what the fuck do you know anyhow. go audit some more philosophy classes, because that's what real jobs are like.[Edited on July 13, 2006 at 11:54 AM. I've worked in the "real world" for a year post-college (during and pre-college work doesn't really apply). I've done research in academia too. I'd be hard pressed to point at one or the other and go "a-ha! THIS is the real job, and way more important than any other!" People with that kind of attitude usually have deep-seated feelings of inadequacy. Couldn't cut it as a graduate student?Like I said, I've held a variety of professional jobs. I'm pursuing a PhD, though. It's ignorant and obnoxious to claim that those who dedicate themselves to academia aren't doing a "real" job though.[Edited on July 13, 2006 at 12:01 PM. Reason : .]

ok. good point.FWIW, i could go to grad school, but i'm too old to be that poor again.
7/13/2006 12:08:49 PM
^ I'm richer as a grad student than I was as an undergrad. I too could never go back.
