I've looked up on google about how to paint a car. I suck at using a brush or roller indoors so maybe a spray on finish would be something I'd be good at.

My 93 accord charcoal paint is oxidizing badly on the hood and roof. I'd like to repaint the entire car with a matching paint color, or OEM paint if possible. It is a slightly metalic charcoal color. Where might I find something like this? Or what brands of paint are good? Sherwin-Williams?

I took a car by one of those cheap paint shops years ago and for $250 they gave me a paint job that rubbed off slightly everytime it was washed and in 1 year was starting to chip off.

Also has anyone ever painted in a garage that also contains a gas water heater? I'm a little worried about that as well. KABOOM!

My advice is to spend some money and get a good paint job by someone who knows what he is doing.

You will spend more money screwing it up yourself and then paying someone to fix it and repaint it than just to paint it in the first place.



Also if you paint that much around a gas water heater it will go boom

Problem is the car is not worth paying someone to do a Good paint job. That would cost over $2000.

^ spray pam all under your fenders and on your rims and tires and it wipes right off when they get done fucking it up

Actually my first experience was both...but then I did industrial painting for two years prior to even thinking about painting a car.

And I also took my sweet time and got plenty of practice shooting primer.

well... I'd say DIY. Its an old 93 accord so if you fuck up, its not like your fucking up a nice new lexus or anything.

^That's what I was thinking. Plus I can always paint it again. Although I doubt this will even happen for a year. From the looks of the job the shop did on my old 86 626 it ws there first as well.

You can say you can do it all over again. But sanding and prep sucks donkey balls.

And paint ain't cheap. Unless you buy Rustoleum by the gallon and roll it on. And that is about as nigger as it gets...even though the mopar dude made it look reasonably good.

You should budget a minimum of 200 dolla for paint and materials, though I think you're gonna be lucky to get out for under 300 dolla.

yeah, I just bought enough paint supplies to paint a car (or about 7 bikes) for 300 bucks in materials. That doesn't include the equipment I invested to do the project. It should save money in the long run and learn too.
