i have a 2006 civic ex sedan. it has a 160 watt system w/ 6 speakers: 2 tweeters, 2 front door, 2 rear deck. i am getting new speakers for my birthday next month. i really don't know what brands are better than others, or really what to look for at all. my brother suggested boston acoustics. any suggestions are welcomed, regardless of price.

i dunno a whole lot about the regular speakers but are you interested in subs?

you should definitely avoid anymore suggestions your brother has

^agree look to spend at least $200 for a nice set of components for the front and $150 for a set of coaxials in the back.... and thens theres the $400 amp to push them and the $300 deck to handle that and it just kinda chains after that...in seconds thoughts yea go w/ the boston acoustics

yeah... umm.... TROUBLE STARTS NOWwhen building a car stereo if you get good speakers... they really need to be amped (outside of the head unit) then you need a head unit with pre-outs ... then you find out you're speakers don't respond below 50-75 hz and notice you're missing bass lines you once had... so you want a sub and amp....and the cycle ends 2,3,4,5,6 grand later

it's a civic...I honestly (no troll) suggest getting a faster car before you invest money on good sound in a slow car.
7/6/2006 2:31:38 AM
what?
7/6/2006 3:01:48 AM
^^that really makes no sense. my car is fast enough. it gets me to and from work and doesn't cost $texas to fill up.i don't want the absolute best there is, i just want to replace the speakers i have. if i need an amp, i'll get one but i'm not trying to thump so i don't want big subs. i just want it to sound better than it does (at least as good as my 4runner did).so i'm looking for specific suggestions: brands and specific speakers.

If you are looking for a sub, 10" Kicker Solobarics can be had for under $200 which is about as much bang for your buck as you're likely to find unless you are looking used. A complete setup for that including amps, components, and a new head unit could be had in the $1,000-1,200 range if you shop around some. Cheaper still if you shave a little quality here and there, but do that at your own risk. There does come a point where you get what you pay for.

Esgargs, the new civics are really nice. He's justified in getting speakers I thinks.
7/6/2006 1:25:25 PM
oh well, I stand corrected...I usually associate Civics with cheap "made to be riced" slow cars.
7/6/2006 1:57:39 PM
Yea you're still correct, but I mean the new once are respectable (stock at least)

civics arent slow, or you simply don't know how to drive themthey run quite well for factory carsSony Xplod component speakers have always served me well, and don't cost a whole lot for good ones... if you're not looking to spend a lot of money, they're greatKicker subs are my favorites, comp's are more than enough for what you want if you intend to get some, really, too much thump

i put a set of the new Polk Audio db series separates up front and co-ax's in the rear in my wife's highlander. although they are power hungry, they sound good as hell. i'm runnin 100 watts rms to each. i highly recommend them.

i'm not really interested in a sub at all. i don't want a new head unit (it's not really a replaceable one anyway). i just want to replace my 6 speakers with ones that sound better. i'll keep these suggestions in mind. where to shop? crutchfield is my first thought.and yes, the new civics are a lot nicer than the older models.oh, and btw Santa, i'm a she[Edited on July 6, 2006 at 8:29 PM. in order to actually hear a difference, you will need to add an amp to the setup, especially if you don't want to change the head unit.
7/6/2006 8:31:04 PM
yeah, i said i'm willing ot get an amp, but i don't want subs or a new head unit
