The damn was damaged during the tropical storm so they have lowered the water level to have better access to fix it.

I think they are planning on leaving it this low so that future storms don't cause so much flooding[Edited on July 5, 2006 at 2:36 PM. Reason : fsdf]

the average depth of that lake is about 5 feet. so it cant get too much lower...that being said, i hope the damn breaks and floods away those fuckers in the shitty ghetto apartments. I guess the ones on th efourth floor might be safe though

The pumps are there because of how the damn was damages. The spill way had a repair done on it years ago. Water had been seeping through the cracks in the part what was repaired and slowly eroded it from beneath. During the storm, there was so much water that it found it's way underneath and the top area just dropped about a foot. Imagine a sidewalk where rain had removed the soil from underneath but you didn't know it... then you put weight on it... foosh... you bust your ass. They dropped the lake 5 feet to do the repairs necessary. The pumps pump the water so there is constant movement that the wildlife in the water would not die. Stagnant water, especially where highways drain into gets dirty fast... and stinky.
