http://stickgrappler.tripod.com/bjj/gjjdiet.html

Started by Carlos Gracie (father of Royce, Rickson et al.) after 50 years of research with nutritionists and his own observations

has anyone ever tried it, currently on it, or has opinions of it? I am thinking about starting on it for a while

The basic premise is that the body performs best at a neutral pH, and combining certain foods is good and combining others is bad

Its not terribly restrictive, it focuses more on the combination rather than what you are eating in itself

It intrigues me to say the least, so much so that i am willing to try it

Weight loss is 99% thermodynamics. Burn more calories than you take in and you will lose weight.

its not about weight loss, i guess thats the misconception

the Gracie Jiu Jitsu is the 'weight loss', this is a diet based achieving peak performance for fighting and just general health

i just wanna see what kind of results it has yielded

I see what you're going for now. If you're looking to fine tune metabolism, you're into the realm of biochemistry and nutrition. I could be wrong, but I don't think that nutritionists have found a better active lifestyle diet beyond a balanced low fat diet that's high in complex carbs.

^^^I've never tried it, but I am trying to find some-sort of high endurance conditioning diet, (not a weight loss) diet. Something like a boxers diet. I imagine this would qualify. I've thought about looking into it.

From the surface researching ive done, it seems to be pretty viable, but i havent even got into the meat of it

the thing to me is it seems pretty dang expensive, I would like to have some feedback from dieters and maybe some of the research Carlos used

and it is definitely a fine tune/ performance based diet i was excited when I found it

dont forget to make sure your body is at the right frequency

you have to also eat food thats at a lower frequency then you

anyone who knows about pH knows about dialing the right megahertz.

Diets don't work. Exercise.

And the Japanese have been combining beneficial foods into meals for centuries.

ITS NOT ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS MY WEIGHT IS PERFECT

IT IS ABOUT OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE

^Diets dont work eh? so i guess you can eat whatever you want then, since your diet does not matter

seriously come on now, diets work, diets are what you eat be it 40 cheeseburgers topped with marshmallows or salads

your diet works either for or against you

unless you have superior genetics, eating whatever you want and working out is not enough

I read the same thing in GQ (I think it was GQ, might have been Men's Health). It seems like a viable plan for healthy eating, aside from that I have a hard time believing it will have any other effect.

it seems this diet is intended for weight loss. i think all of the gracies are lean due to their genetics and jiu-jiujitsu, not their diet. the diet is intended for athletic performance. if that's the case, i don't think this diet is all that spectacular. if you look at the foods they suggest, it's the same stuff any athletic trainer or nutrionist would recommend.

about 2.5 weeks ago

I stopped drinking soda, stopped eating fast food, started running 2 miles a day after work, lifting every other day, and continued playing basketbal ~2-3 hours a day sat/sun.

ive dropped roughly 10 pounds.

i call my diet common fucking sense

Food combining is definitely good for you.

For example you should always eat fruit by itself and never after a meal. It digests much faster than meat/carbs and if you eat fruit after a meal it will sit at the top of your stomach and ferment before it can digest.

Veggies should be eaten alone or with meat. Carbs should be eaten by themselves.

That's about the jist of it.

it was 90% water weight. the only way this was realy weight was if you were morbidly fat.

even if you did lose that weight, it was 1/2 muscle AND youve lost it an unhealthy rate. ive never seen one fitness expert that has ever said more then one lb per week is realistic long term.

i dont recall saying it wasnt water weight

nor did I say I was going to sustain that rate

i merely stated my results. and ive lost little if any muscle weight.

but good job putting words into my mouth to try to build your limited knowledge up.

^^^I don't see how you or your fitness experts can claim to know his body.

Drastic diet changes and start of an exercise routine could easily cause a 10lb loss over 2.5 weeks without significant muscle loss. You yourself said

^^well i appologize for that implication.

the common sense part i was referring to was droping soda, fast food, etc part of my diet and adding the cardio exercise daily.

^ yes I am well aware that my weight loss will drastically slow down now that i am getting into a different, steady and consistent healthy schedule.

and the stats say, he wont make it much further. crash diets are what americans have been using for decades. americans, are fat.
