Is there any way I could retain my NC plate even if I don't live in NC anymore? Or, to put it differently, is there a way to renew the plate if I am gonna be back in NC after the renewal is due? Also, what about vehicle inspection? Is it alright to forego vehicle inspection until I come back? Thanks

*are you wanting to keep the plate as a souvenier or just keep it so you don't have to get a new one when you return?if you want it as a souvenier, just tell the dmv that the plate was lost or destroyed and you want to drop the registration.*are you just leaving the state or are you leaving the country?if leaving the state only, you will need to register the car in the new state, meaning you will drop your NC registration. or if you maintain a residence in NC, you can keep your NC registration.as for inspection, if you aren't maintaining the registration, you don't need to maintain the inspection. when you return just go get it inspected, tell them you were out of the country and teh car was off the road for that period of time.if you are basically wanting to suspend your registration because you are leaving the country, but you will be returning, you should go talk to the DMV and ask them what options you have available.

I don't want to keep it as a souvenier. I basically want to keep my car registered in NC. What if my plate expires after my inspection? Would that be a problem if I cannot get my car inspected since I am not in NC at the time being?

yes

so basically, I can keep my car registered in NC for as long as the inspection is valid because I can renew the plates online?

I know you can do it through snail mail, not sure about online. A friend of mine has his car registered for SC through mail.

you can register it online, but they have to mail your sticker to you. i don't know if you can change your address online or not.why don't you go talk to the dmv and see what they say you can do. if you are going to be traveling out of NC and then coming back, it shouldn't be a problem. if you are leaving NC to move to another state, they won't let you do this and you'll have to find your own way around it.

makes sense...what about inspections?Would it be a problem if my inspection expires until I come back to NC and renew it?

My car doesn't need emissions checked anyway, fucktard. And slut, go suck a dick.I have a valid question here.

why don't you ask the fucking DMV so they can give you the correct answer, not some redneck backyard NC mechanic answer?

You have to live in the state where you car is registered and inspected. Of course you can lie about this, but they'll ask for proof of residency I believe.

How do you establish residency?I am not paying for any utilities here in MPLS, either. So that makes me a resident of where?
