if you've taken it, would it be your opinion that the general exam or the disipline specific exam is easier?

also, can anyone suggest a specific book that you found helpful studying for it?

i'm trying to get a bit of an early start on this.

there is a study book that you can take into the exam (available at the book store), i think it's call EIT Study Guide or something

there is also a prep course i would suggest taking (it was like 1 hr a week and they cover all the disciplines)

definitely take your discipline specific exam

i thought the general a.m. was easier than the EE section in the afternoon. that said, i probably did better on the EE part than i would have on the p.m. afternoon.

i didn't study or prepare, so i can't help you with your other question.

if you need to study for the general exam, go to the library there are a ton of old textbooks on the 8th floor

so your major is EE/CPE? are you smart? if not you're pretty much fucked. take ce 213 & go to the review class. buy the book they reccomend & work all the problems. pass or fail, if you don't plan on going into power systems with your ECE degree it won't even matter.

if you're an ME and don't need to study for nomal exams don't study for this one and you'll be fine

every one else...

you won't have a clue what 1/4 of the exam is talking about so... know what you will understand very very well and study the shit out of it.

There should also be a discipline specific book if you search by the author's name.

As for whether to take general or discipline specific, it's all dependent on how comfortable you are with all of the material covered by your major. You get a giant book in the afternoon that has all disciplines and general within it, so you can skim through both and select which one to take at that point in time if you'd like. Yes, it takes a bit of time, but most folks finish with plenty of time to spare in the afternoon (at least that was the case when I took the exam).

i used the big book they recommend if you take the prep course and just did some of the practice problems from each section and took the practice test
doing practice problems teaches you how to use the supplement they give you (with the equations and info) and where stuff is in the book (which shaves off a lot of time if you know where stuff is)

they also have discipline specific books you can buy at the book store and they may be good if you are taking the discipline specific afternoon portion

i took the prep course too but i wasn't very good about going all the time... i did learn that you probably should not skip the classes that cover material from courses you didn't have to take...

the only two courses i think my major doesn't cover are engineering economics and materials
(i'm in bae) so i completely screwed those sections

i took the general exam but for ece/cpe i would have taken the discipline specific... the general exam covers a lot of mae courses that you may not have taken in those majors

besides studying the sections you know you can do well on, you can try studying sections that won't be hard to pick up easily, like engineering ethics. learning a whole new course concept just for the test is going to be too big a task.

and the thing is... its been 2 years since some people have seen these (or worked with them)
But i know M.E. classes keep building off all of them.
I assume A.E. people do too

and Mr. chem E i have no idea about your curriculum but our professor wrote the damned book
if you take thermo(s) with boles YOU KNOW THERMO at least more than the FE will ever ask.

I passed the spring FE exam!

Go to the course offered (E490 I think) and go to every session. Also find a packet or something that your department might offer with helpful topics/questions so you have a general understanding.

That said I took the major specific (IE) part in the afternoon.

I'm Civil and I took General/General after I tried the afternoon civil and realized I couldn't do many.

You can pass easy if you are a good test taker and can narrow it down to 2 answers and then guess. I took it 2 years ago so I've only got 2 more until PE time.
