http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/stewart_mandel/06/28/mandel.mailbag/1.htmlThis is ridiculous. Amato is no Pete Carroll, but worst in the nation?....come on. Amato worse than Bunting? No Way. At least he gave Bunting an honorable mention.

it must be true, it's on the web
6/28/2006 5:32:29 PM
yea our flagitation and anemic offense is a myth
6/28/2006 5:37:38 PM
Everyone either loves him or hates him...or loves to hate him.
6/28/2006 5:38:49 PM
good ACC representation in the bottom 5
6/28/2006 5:55:52 PM
part of me still likes Chuck, but I am starting to develope a big ? for him as a head coach. The article wasn't really off on anything in the assesment of Chuck, our underachieved, and our offense.
6/28/2006 6:04:10 PM
Amato rules!the shitter
6/28/2006 6:11:01 PM
the sole problem with our football team is that nobody can understand what the hell coach says in the locker room before the games."Uhhh....you people......flags......score.....football......herb........uhhhhhhh....fannies."lets get a coach that can speak english. its not even ITALIAN....its 65 year old ebonics.
6/28/2006 6:46:22 PM
apparently Amato is 65 now
6/28/2006 6:51:07 PM
actually the sole problem with our football team is that at any given time we can put 10 talented offensive players on the field, 11 talented defensive players on the field, and 11 talented special teamers on the field. But if you consistently get the worst quarterback play in the country, it's tough to succeed.
6/28/2006 6:58:09 PM
all i can do is laugh at this
6/28/2006 6:58:32 PM
6/28/2006 7:23:09 PM
yay, he heard how many emails / hits he can get if he puts NC State down
6/28/2006 7:48:47 PM
"Don't make me put a hit out on you Stewie."
6/28/2006 8:08:27 PM
you may not like him ... but you can't say straight faced he's the absolutle worst coach in d 1 ...
6/28/2006 10:20:53 PM
FIRE HERB NOW!
6/28/2006 10:22:14 PM
well at least he's finally #1 at somethingi was expecting #4 or less
6/28/2006 10:47:28 PM
WE SHOULD HAVE A PARADE
6/28/2006 10:52:28 PM
No he's not the worst coach in D-I. But I think the point of the article was to note on how much talent comes through NCSU, and this is what Chuck has done with it. er something. But no, he's definitely not the worst D-I coach.
6/28/2006 11:06:12 PM
as an overall package (recruiting included) he isnt the worst coach in d-1...but as a tactical coach he's pretty damn terrible. I can count the times on one hand that I remember thinking we werent outcoached during the game under his regime.... His game preparation stinks and he's unable to get a team to be consistent over the course of a season (think of the '02 collapse, the '05 start, etc)he makes stupid decisions like kicking FG's at the end of the game when we're down 7 (VT this year)our players constantly commit deadball penalties and lack discipline...Three first round picks and we had to squeeze out bowl eligibility in a weak conference? I know our QB play was atrocious, but should it really take 1.5 seasons of misery before someone decides to utilize the running game instead??
6/28/2006 11:06:42 PM
^agreed
6/28/2006 11:10:51 PM
6/28/2006 11:16:28 PM
sure as hell wasn't last year
6/28/2006 11:21:56 PM
The ACC sucked dick last year.
6/28/2006 11:22:38 PM
the defense in the ACC was great for the most part, but their were hardly any good QB's last year which led to a lot of anemic offenses. the ACC didn't have any NC caliber teams, but did have plenty of teams that could beat nearly anybody in the country on any given day. there was a lot of parity, and the teams beat up on each other, like the way the SEC is usually. the jury's still out on whether that was a good thing or a bad thing for the league. i mean VT was considered the NC contender out of the league but promptly got beat down by a Miami team that goes on to lose to an ok GT team at the OB. then VT loses to a 4 loss FSU team in the ACCCG. it was one batshit crazy year for ACC football.
6/28/2006 11:28:03 PM
yeah i can see where you're going with that... overall it was fairly weak though... we didnt fare well outside the conference thats for sure.it doesnt matter, we're never going to amount to shit as long as we have a QB who cant run or pass for first downs...theres no reason to get all worked up about NC State football, just enjoy the beer, music, friends, & food at the tailgate. Tailgating also gives you a perfect opportunity to meet 18 year girls, so seriously let the football stuff go and just concentrate on whats important. College football is such a sub-standard product anyway, save your energy for the NFL.
6/28/2006 11:31:50 PM
6/28/2006 11:37:10 PM
i agree with everything it said...he needs to produce this year or next (atleast at or above expectations) or he is gone...Sporting News says this is the beginning of the collapse of nc state football (again)
6/28/2006 11:44:22 PM
6/29/2006 12:07:19 AM
pretty ignorant article, just cause you happen to have a few players at the top draft doesn't mean a whole, basketball yes, football no
6/29/2006 1:03:13 AM
He's a hell of a fundraiser and a decent recruiter but I agree he's a bad sideline coach and he doesn't seem to be able to reach the players.I still say fire Fowler and make Amato the AD.
6/29/2006 2:24:42 AM
amato doesnt reach the players? wtf?
6/29/2006 2:53:33 AM
Amato doesn't reach the players. Please to see our penalty statistics when the team motto was "DISCIPLINE."
6/29/2006 3:28:36 AM
"Yes, that's right, Kentucky fans, Brooks earned a reprieve this year. After a fairly disastrous first two seasons in which rumors circulated almost daily that he wanted out, Brooks finally seemed more comfortable last season, and the Wildcats showed signs of progress on the field."Brooks is definitly the worst...no doubt about it. Thank God UK will fire him this year if they don't go 6-6.
6/29/2006 8:46:47 AM
6/29/2006 8:57:52 AM
Regardless of penalties, SI is right. Amato's teams underachieve like WHOA.
6/29/2006 8:59:08 AM
Amato isn't a great coach right now, but to call him the worst is a little asinine. I mean there are a couple in this conference that are above Amato in that regards. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give Amato a 6 due to the past two years. Once we fix the offense, and hopefully the defense doesn't fall off too much from the past two years, then we should be a good team.
6/29/2006 8:59:36 AM
Yeah, he's not the worst.I still think a lot of people would be better though. Even somebody like Steve Logan.
6/29/2006 9:04:41 AM
PLease, nobody else's trash ok?
6/29/2006 9:24:10 AM
how many coaches in America have ever had 11 win seasons?Cause Amato has
6/29/2006 9:46:47 AM
How many coaches in America have had Philip Rivers? Cause Amato hasHow many coaches in America have recruited a player like Philip Rivers? Cause Amato hasn't
6/29/2006 9:56:13 AM
6/29/2006 9:57:48 AM
how many state fans shit on our football program?cause yall do
6/29/2006 10:00:33 AM
I'm not calling for Amato's head or anything, but the fact is, we haven't done anything to speak of offensively since Rivers left, but that can always change this year. and i hope it does.
6/29/2006 10:03:06 AM
I'm just saying our players the last two seasons were good enough to do a lot better than they did, but they didn't because they had no leadershipI always got the impression that Rivers was always basically like the coach on the field which was fine except we don't have a replacement for that now, including the actual coach
6/29/2006 10:03:39 AM
With Brown and Baker, Stone SHOULD improve. I mean this will be his 4th year on the team and working out. He has the same coordinator this year so no excuses. Put up or let's see Evans or Burke.[Edited on June 29, 2006 at 10:04 AM. Reason : .]
6/29/2006 10:04:32 AM
we had top 10 D's the past 2 seasons, but didn't get a bowl one year, and barely squeaked into one last year....mainly b/c our offense usually looked like they placed a bet on the other team to win.
6/29/2006 10:05:35 AM
^^yeah thats what i'm hoping^true but a good quarterback is very important to lead a team...like a point guard...and we didnt really have that with jay davis
