Looking for a notebook...price is not an issue and here are the main things I'm looking for:

- high end hardware as far as processor and ram, fast fast fast
- fairly lightweight
- recordable DVD drive

any suggestions? I'm having trouble finding a nice medium between fast hardware specs and not lugging around a 10 pound system

not necessarily true- they merged with Lenovo got the short end of the straw. still the same machines as in past. Mainframe name changes but everything inside them is still IBM...

i think the school deal beats EPP also - except for the monthly specials they run - if they happen to run the same model it likely wouldn't beat EPP

i guess that was worded wrong--- My point was that IBM was not entirely bought out and is still contributing to laptop Production....

as of april 05 - that isn't true

the entire PC division of IBM was sold - desktop and laptop computers being included in that sale - they are all lenovo employees now - they still work out of ibm offices that they lease from ibm in RTP b/c the lenovo office isn't built yet

they contribute nothing really

In reference to IBM's involvement in Lenovo Taking over the notebook devision, their site had this to say:
Quote :
"the award-winning engineers, the manufacturing teams, the sales representatives, the business partners. In short, the people you know. The ones you count on. (are still here)"

In addition:
Quote :
"Lenovo is now the preferred provider of IBM-branded personal computers to our clients, and IBM will continue to provide financing and maintainance services for those PC solutions."

Either way Lenovo is taking over- Do you think that is going to affect the new line of ThinkPads?

the same employees still work there - they were just rebadged overnight from ibm to lenovo - so of course the quality will remain the same for some time

has nothing to do with building anything

let's go back to the - are you retarded

the point is that you made it sound like it was an entirely new machine and in it's essence it is the exact same notebook, with the exact same workers, with ibm still taking care of service on them. Nothing has changed but an additional name. Would you say nextel no longer has cellphones because in a few months they are all going to say sprint as will the invoice?

anyways- I'm out. didn't wanna fight over laptops. Just suggesting IBM- that is all

ibm doesn't manufacture them anymore - lenovo does - their quality guidelines might be lower as well as they could be higher - ibm has an interest in maintaining quality though because as of the time of sale - for the following 5 years the laptops will still be branded "thinkpad" - and people associate thinkpad with ibm still - so they don't want lenovo selling a shit product

nextel and sprint merged - nextel didn't sell off their cellphone division to sprint....i hope that you can understand the difference there

i wouldn't want to argue if i had no idea what i was talking about either
