you know the one...Eclipse AVN7000 I want
6/28/2006 12:23:44 AM
6/28/2006 12:25:19 AM
7in flip-out DVD/NAV touchscreeenbuilt in 20GB hard driveonly 13W RMS thoughand of course, its $2400
6/28/2006 12:26:06 AM
you could build a much better car pc - put lcds in your headrests - backup camera - etc etc for much less
6/28/2006 12:30:54 AM
no, YOU could. I would have to pay someone like YOU $2500 to do that to my car.
6/28/2006 12:34:45 AM
that may actually be a valid point, almost
6/28/2006 12:50:40 AM
yeah... a car pc would be sickbut you wouldn't want everyone to have touchscreens... they'd all be fightingand if you went with regular lcds then you'd need a mouse
6/28/2006 12:52:47 AM
honestly i would rather have a car MAC and not a PC
6/28/2006 1:00:28 AM
and you'd be gay fer it.
6/28/2006 1:14:42 AM
well i never
6/28/2006 1:20:06 AM
car pcs are awesome
6/28/2006 1:28:21 AM
nahh i just don't like macsand i think i'd run linux on mine just to have mplayer
6/28/2006 1:34:38 AM
*nix binaries will run natively on osx..
6/28/2006 1:54:14 AM
do car pcs have the sound quality that high end decks offer?? the specs on this are the worse i've seen on a eclipse 2v preouts, 89db signal to noise ratio, etc, most high end eclipse are 8v and 105snr.
6/28/2006 1:55:08 AM
theres only so much room for shit in a single DIN unit
6/28/2006 2:39:10 AM
I'd have a hard time believing any car audio manufacturer makes something better than an envy or audigy or any other pc 24/96 card.
6/28/2006 2:49:23 AM
well considering the 12v environment is about the worst possible for interference, noise, etc. i can't see the sound card being too much if better at all. based on specs the sound cards do shit on most of the decks out there though.the alpine f-1 does 120db snr but it's a $1800 deck that only plays cds.[Edited on June 28, 2006 at 3:11 AM. Reason : can't type for shit]

Your PC sound card will not output the same quality as a high end deck, unless you opt for a an ATX rig with a stud of a card.Laptop? Forget about it.Lucky for most of us, we wouldn't notice the difference between a 45$ sound card and a 800$ deck.
6/28/2006 10:55:48 AM
6/28/2006 11:08:44 AM
not to mention have infinite control over things like crossovers and eq.
6/28/2006 11:32:55 AM
I was thinking an itx board with a pci riser and an envy24 or audigy myself. Currently I have an embedded linux machine run into the disc changer input on my head unit and it sounds pretty good. the speakers are probably my limitation.
6/28/2006 11:34:54 AM
yeah dont get a mac, you'd look fairly gay
6/28/2006 11:41:43 AM
In a car, unless you are competing, there is really no use in focusing on s/n and thd if you are buying quality components. That is, any reasonable deck and reasonable sound card are going to be more than quiet enough such that you can't even begin to hear it while on the road (even in uber luxo cars with massive sound dampening). The difference between 89db and 120db isn't that much when actually driving. Sitting still with your car off, assuming everything else equal then even a reasonably trained ear won't be able to instantly notice the difference.
6/28/2006 12:58:22 PM
you could get that... or you could get yourself an ipod...
6/29/2006 12:59:21 PM
iPod does nav, dvd, and sat radio these days?
6/29/2006 1:39:11 PM
You'd need a pc case because they don't make any good laptop soundcards.
6/29/2006 3:49:01 PM
6/29/2006 4:03:52 PM
audigy2 pcmcia..
6/29/2006 4:04:03 PM
Don't pretty much bullshit meAnd don't come at me with some shittastic Soundblaster bullshit. You want to prove me wrong, then show me a laptop card with dual 24bit DAC's, optical out, and real hardware equalizer rather then algorithmic software abortion that Creative sells.[Edited on June 29, 2006 at 4:10 PM. Reason : And no. I don't consider dongle based optical outs (sup iRiver) worthy of everyday use.]
6/29/2006 4:07:06 PM
6/29/2006 4:16:39 PM
Yea, don't they have outboard "soundcards" that could connect via USB or firewire that you could also use??
6/29/2006 5:33:12 PM
they have a usb audigy and a pcmcia audigy2 zs with fiber in/out
6/29/2006 6:04:38 PM
Yea but the require a shit connector for the SPDIF.
6/29/2006 6:14:19 PM
6/29/2006 8:51:20 PM
one cool thing about this h/u is it plugs into factory toyota wiring. that's right, no aftermarket wiring harness needed.
6/29/2006 9:38:57 PM
wierd? native toyota wiring? coincidence?
