Between having Palestine being strangled to death by the international community and Israel lining up its military on the border, ready to flatten the Gaza Strip to find that soldier, I imagine that Hamas is probably a little bit more open to compromise at this point...
6/27/2006 11:38:41 AM
yeah i think there's a stick of dynamite instead of a carrot dangling from the end of the stick at this point

Once they recognize israel, they can have a formally outlined War, instead of just being considered a bunch of terrorists by the rest of the world..[Edited on June 28, 2006 at 11:55 AM. Reason : .]
6/28/2006 11:54:57 AM
Haha conventional warfare with Israel? If any arab nation could do this, would they resort to terrorism? They'd get their dicks dragged through the dirt.
6/28/2006 11:56:51 AM
once they have a formally outlined war, they will be embarrassed by Israel, instead of being empathized with the rest of the world.
6/28/2006 11:57:57 AM
i dont get why we took over israel when we coulda took over somewhere like iran and had cheap ass gas our whole life
6/28/2006 12:03:26 PM
Iran is anti-anything foreign. The only thing that unites them (besides religion, and that is even split down the sides) is an invasion from a foreign force.See Afghanistan as an historical example. Many tribes and rough terrain. Sedendary people always get invaded in that country. The real population stays on the move and fight each other until they come together to expel a common enemy

The Associated Press reports Palestinian security personnel and Egyptians are trying to prevent people from pushing through a hole in a fence blown open when militants detonated a land mine along the Egypt-Gaza border.

6/29/2006 11:15:14 AM

6/29/2006 11:18:41 AM
I still hold out some hope that Fatah and Hamas will merge and become Fatas, and then never understand why English speakers laugh at them.

Israel last night threatened to assassinate Palestinian Prime Minister Ismael Haniyeh if Hamas militants did not release a captured Israeli soldier unharmed.
7/1/2006 10:37:20 AM
Israel is a great example of how to deal with insurgencies. They've been doing so well for the past 50 years.
7/1/2006 2:34:36 PM
^ well said.
7/2/2006 1:24:54 AM
Palestinian militants holding an Israeli soldier captive have set a deadline for Israel to begin releasing Palestinian prisoners. A statement from the groups said: "We are giving the Zionist enemy until tomorrow, July 4th, at 6:00 a.m. (11 p.m. EDT Monday.) If they do not answer our humanitarian demands, the enemy will be responsible for all future consequences."
7/3/2006 7:24:27 AM
those people must be insane....if they kill that soldier...soooo maybe palestinians will die...this whole situation is lame
7/3/2006 8:31:33 AM
^ Very true! As soon as that guy is killed, the bulldozers are going to fucking erase any sign of rebuilding that was happening in Gaza, to say nothing of what they'll do with their tanks and artillery units. Many people will die as a result, probably including many people behind the Hamas leadership (including the prime minister who they threatened to assassinate once). On both sides, there are people who don't give any sort of damn about the people who will die. Just as long as they make it look like they could justify it to their followers and maybe make everyone who died look like martyrs in the meantime, they'll perceive it as a "win" for their side.
7/3/2006 10:34:01 AM
GAZA (Reuters) - Israel warned the governing Palestinian faction Hamas that the "sky will fall on them" if they harm a captured soldier after a deadline passed on Tuesday for the Jewish state to accept a prisoner exchange.
