I think something key for us on Thomas is we got in early with him. I fully expect he would have been offered by Wake Forest and more prestigious basketball programs in the coming months.
6/26/2006 8:42:05 PM
it has been said many times that Thomas was blowing up and many major bball schools would have offered and shown interest in the coming months. the 07 recruiting is just really getting started.that story was already posted in the 2007 Basketball Recruiting thread.[Edited on June 26, 2006 at 8:45 PM. ^^^so you wouldnt want somebody like Guillermo Diaz on our team either I guess
6/26/2006 9:29:34 PM
Guillermo Diaz was one of my favorite non-State players in the ACC this year. dude is hella fast, great passer, and can shoot lights out. everything i'd want in a PG. plus he's a good leader. didn't he declare for the NBA draft, or am i just crazy.

http://hurricanesports.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/diaz_guillermo01.htmlit just says he's a guard. i thought he played both guard positions this year. i forgot who was the Canes primary ball handler this year.
6/26/2006 9:39:35 PM
He did plenty of ball-handling, I just wouldn't pick him as a point.
6/26/2006 9:41:49 PM
now that we've got this guy, he'll probably drop to like a top-400 recruit and stop getting press at all (OMF UNC MEDIA CONSPIRACY!!1!).
6/26/2006 9:42:29 PM
6/27/2006 9:17:24 AM
I HOPE HE'S BLACK
6/27/2006 9:20:32 AM
yay! we are going to be the same as everyone else!
6/27/2006 9:21:12 AM
^^It's really funny, but also probably true.... I'm sorry, but it is.
6/27/2006 9:24:50 AM
6/27/2006 9:35:25 AM
6/27/2006 9:44:25 AM
true. by running the same offense as everyone else, we will finally break out of mediocrity.
6/27/2006 9:50:51 AM
strengths: upside and ATHLETICISM areas for improvement: ball handling and 3 point shooting truly a changing of guard at state...athletes and non 3 point shooters[Edited on June 27, 2006 at 9:59 AM. Reason : .]
6/27/2006 9:57:31 AM
hopefully. at the least, we will not look like boys in a Men's conference
6/27/2006 9:57:37 AM
agreed....im longing for the return of being able to watch us on thursday during the acc tournament! thats like a bonus game!
6/27/2006 9:59:45 AM
It's not so much the "running the same offense as everyone else" so much as it's the "not running an offense that belongs more on a football field than a basketball court." Micro-managed basketball takes most of the excitement out of the game. When players are precluded from creating their own opportunities, you might as well be watching a computer simulation.
6/27/2006 10:00:09 AM
here's to sidney only recruiting black players for his tenure
6/27/2006 10:00:47 AM
cheers
6/27/2006 10:01:25 AM
Well, he's already fucked up then, if that's what you're hoping for. That 7'3" guy that looks like a periscope is white.
6/27/2006 10:04:34 AM
just keep bringing in those athletes, im liking this thomas kid and i've never seen him play

6/27/2006 10:27:09 AM
all we will hear about this year is florida, unc, and greg oden
6/27/2006 10:28:05 AM
^^what was more exciting for you in the last 6 months:- the Heat Mavs series in the NBA Finals?- the Final Four with LSU vs. UCLA and George Mason vs Florida
6/27/2006 10:32:40 AM
^^^no, we want to see a team game, we're just ready to see an end to players' athleticism being castratedimagine a coach constantly working on the mechanics and fundamentals (such as boxing out, rebounding, and setting up screens) with Ced, Gavin, Brack, Cam, and Bethel and then telling them "unleash the fury"we would've seen a different game out theredon't get me wrong, i loved seeing us hit 3's; but no team can be one dimensional and have a sustainable competitive edge.we had our time with the precious little Ivy League offense, and now we've evolved[Edited on June 27, 2006 at 10:37 AM. 6/27/2006 10:59:40 AM
i didn't find either particularly interesting to be honest with you...
6/27/2006 11:02:28 AM
I saw this kid play against William Graves (UNC's worst recruit in '06 class) this year. Thomas' team won, but he did not look that impressive, and he lost mvp to a guy on his own team that had 7 points. William Graves looked like the much better player, but it was only one game.
6/27/2006 11:22:05 AM
so the herb-haters would say that this makes up for the loss of chris wright?laff.
6/27/2006 11:50:43 AM
i dunno...its hard to speculate about players who have never played a game of college basketball
6/27/2006 12:11:53 PM
^^ Wright was overrated! We didn't want him anyways!!!!
6/27/2006 12:55:54 PM
^ maybe, but we all know for an absolute fact that his athleticism would have been fully actualised in a precious little ivy league offense
6/27/2006 12:57:28 PM
The impact of the coaching change far outweighs the loss of a few recruits.
6/27/2006 12:59:03 PM
OMG, you're right!FUCK HERB!
6/27/2006 1:01:40 PM
Its not like we never had players like this under Sendek.
6/27/2006 1:03:12 PM
if you can't take the heatgo to the desert
6/27/2006 1:04:18 PM
6/27/2006 1:08:39 PM
Well good thing Sendek is still your coach.
6/27/2006 1:10:11 PM
This guy will not be a guard for State. He's going to be a SF.
6/27/2006 1:27:31 PM
Herb will always be my coach
6/27/2006 1:27:41 PM
it's funny because herb was never your coach.
6/27/2006 1:28:44 PM
figuratively speaking
