since WoW is the only game I play, I want to buy the cheapest possible system I can find with the minimum necessary components in order to easily run maximum graphics settings on WoW, without running into any bottlenecks, including 60 players running around in IF/raidswhat do I need? a64 3500+/3ghz p46800GT/x8501gb of ram7200rpm 16mb cache hdd less than half fullnothing else running, windows properly configured for low drive usage and speed, proper drivers, and praying blizz does shit right. most of the bottleneck is texture caching, the faster your hard drive and the more ram you have, the less everything else matters.[Edited on June 24, 2006 at 3:24 PM. ^ I really need 1gig ram to max out WoW settings? I was hoping that since it is a 2yr old game I wouldn't need a very big setup ^^ i'm not looking for minimum system requirements to run WoW but thanks anyway smartass^^^ please review your own comments in the first page of WoW threadmessage_topic.aspx?topic=268484[Edited on June 24, 2006 at 7:22 PM. you're looking at a game with over 4gb of texture files that need to be cached in different zones. if you don't want slow downs, you need to keep as many loaded in ram as possible, meaning more ram.

Yeah, WOW has a very large hunger for system and video memory. It's kind of gross.

Also, you have to consider that, even if you have enough machine to process all of that, you still have to take into account network issues, which are limited by other players' internet connections, among other things. Even if the game world moves smoothly, other players are likely to look shaky if the connection isn't mustard.

ya i know there's nothing i can do about network lag, really...So lets say I installed 1-2gig ram, could I skimp on the graphics card and processor/mobo?
6/24/2006 10:27:31 PM
Not if you want to max out the settings, no.

i've got a 2.8 ghz dual core pentium D, 3 gigs of ddr2-533 ram, two ibm deskstars raided in stripe-0 and a 7800gt w/ 256m ram, and i still drop to ~14fps in any wooded areas (if looking at trees)this is maxxed out w/ the transparency antialiasing set to supersampling (probly why the trees slow me the fuck down) and running at 1920x1200so.... you probably want something better than that. have fun.

damnit how can this be - the game came out more than two years ago :-(do they upgrade the graphics with patches?

^It's cause the game blows. Get over it. Eve Online FTW!!
6/25/2006 12:37:08 AM
i'm playing fucking mario brothers over here
6/25/2006 12:38:35 AM
Eve sounds way too hardcore/inaccessible for me.I want my games to be highly scripted and very easy.[Edited on June 25, 2006 at 12:46 AM. Reason : s]

well the real reason it runs slow for me is the resolution and the transparency AA.eve online is extremely boring. i played up till my battlecruiser and just didn't see the game going anywhere. it has a great community however, and they put everyone on the same server so there's never a lack of players.

Buy a shit pc and be done with it.I've got a nice rig, 1900XTX, 2gig ram and I still clock 40fps in org.WoW has a terrible graphics engine.

^^ one of the sole reasons i'm a late adopter is so i can get cheap shitthis sucks. they should improve their engine
