Any type of internship available Bob?
6/26/2006 1:15:44 AM
man, i shoulda asked this question back in april... before i took a job that's relocating me to wisconsin
6/26/2006 1:35:03 AM
^^not sure about what's available for internships, you may want to pm robster, he's just transitioned from intern to full-time, so he probably knows more about what's needed than I do.My team's looking for *experienced* network engineers, focusing on LAN/Campus switching in a Cisco Environment (STP, Multicast, QoS, 802.1q, Vlans, HSRP, in-depth understanding of Ethernet/FastE/GigE, MLS, CEF, etc.)if you meet that criteria, send me a pm.
6/26/2006 10:05:40 AM
yeah, I can get you the low down on the internships if you are interested... and just send me your resume if you are interested in full time also.
6/26/2006 6:29:13 PM
What about those without experience. I got a BS CPE and EI.... and um... I took networking classes. Please give me a job
6/26/2006 6:35:23 PM
Heh I got CCNA in 11th grade...but it just ran out in May. Guess that counts me out. [Edited on June 27, 2006 at 3:08 AM. Reason : ]

City of Raleigh is about to post a network Admin postion. Starting $42k+.

If you just graduated here in may or will graduate in december, then you dont have to have super credentials... however, the RTP TAC, which is where we work, hired 8 new hires who are in training right now. Most of us have our CCNP certifications, but 2 of them are very novice to networking. I will say that the learning curve is going to be huge and very difficult for those without prior knowledge, but if the personality and other resume items standout enough, we do hire some without great experience in networking. If you have been out of school a year or more, we generally want to see networking specific experience, or go out on your own and get some certifications... Otherwise, you probably wont even be considered. But I will tell you, its the best working environment you could ever ask for, so if you are interested in networking, its worth whatever effort it may take to get a job here. The pay is awesome for new grads, and opportunity for training and bonuses are amazing... weekend work is like 3x pay, holiday work is even more. Paid CCIE Lab tests... anything else I missed Bobby?
6/27/2006 9:03:13 AM
being able to drink at work!
6/27/2006 9:06:00 AM
oh yeah even the Co-ops can, if they are 21, of course Yeah I dont know of any other companies that do "beer and cookies" monthly, or keep a stock in the fridge at all times.
6/27/2006 9:10:05 AM
Bobby & Rob, I'm graduating in December and I worked with CALO for 2 semesters. Do you have an idea of which TAC teams will be hiring around January?
6/27/2006 9:24:42 AM
^^ haha beer and cookies.. nice
6/27/2006 10:12:14 AM
^^ Brian, I think that is still unknown as many of them have external spots open for hiring, but college new hire comes from a different pool and allocation program. Mike is still the one to ask about those jobs, but I will let him know you are interested if you want me to.I am also not sure whether or not they compensate for referrals for that position, but I can find that out too
6/27/2006 12:15:51 PM
I was planning on contacting Mike in a while, but if you can get a referral bonus- go for it
6/27/2006 12:54:03 PM
I went through the Novell curriculum (for CCNA) in high school, but never bothered taking the test. I think I would have had a good shot at it, though. It's a little fuzzy, but I don't think it'd take long to get caught back up.[Edited on June 27, 2006 at 4:15 PM. Reason : asdf]
6/27/2006 4:15:30 PM
^^ I asked him about it today, and he said no bonus for me for college new hires. You could apply just directly to a team that needs people, and I would get a bonus that way. But for you, its better to go through college new hire because you will start with higher pay most likely.
6/27/2006 7:18:49 PM
6/27/2006 8:24:03 PM
why would you want that??
6/27/2006 10:55:29 PM
I'm considering a career change since I read this thread
6/28/2006 11:33:31 AM
you shouldn'tunless these guys got business know-how they're on the wrong end of globalization
6/28/2006 11:54:58 AM
well, you've already proven that you DON'T have business know-how.
6/28/2006 12:48:00 PM
if it was an average company, that might be true, but since we lead innovation, and support, that is not a very accurate statement. Instead of becoming part of globalization, its more accurate to say we manage globalization shifts, but our overall model never changes. In lamens terms, you will always have people who need to speak to someone in their timezone, with their same accent, and want someone who really knows what they are talking about. In addition, you will always need someone to manage that process, and those processes that involve the globalization of support.... which is what we do better than anyone else in the world.ask JD and Assoc.

6/28/2006 3:14:23 PM
6/28/2006 3:15:58 PM
you are an idiot, and you obviously have no idea who you're talking to or what company they are talking about.
6/28/2006 3:21:00 PM
yes. only america can educate network engineers
6/28/2006 3:23:32 PM
Again, you're trying to comment on something you know nothing about.
6/28/2006 3:25:28 PM
no I am commenting on something I studied while you took all your engineering classes. now you are trying to act like "oh man that globalization stuff is all bullshit, take it from me--I'm some peon in a network engineering firm". give up.
6/28/2006 3:27:28 PM
hahahaha"some network engineering firm"
6/28/2006 3:31:13 PM
I really don't know what I'm talking about, for the record.
6/28/2006 3:31:21 PM
Yeah I realized I should probably give up when I read that out loud.
6/28/2006 3:31:51 PM
6/28/2006 3:53:52 PM
6/28/2006 4:01:58 PM
Support engineers are a different story, though.
6/28/2006 4:02:40 PM
no, nobody ever writes business memosit's all computers man
6/28/2006 4:06:35 PM
6/28/2006 4:08:42 PM
I also like the "east coast" part. So you don't even talk to the customers? You are just the one they talk to when the outsourced people fuck up? What happens when they make better and smarter outsourced labor?
6/28/2006 4:11:21 PM
he works for cisco - by no mean a small company[Edited on June 28, 2006 at 4:14 PM. Reason : i have to assume he's just trolling - maybe he sucks this bad tho]
6/28/2006 4:13:43 PM
this is a stupid argument...someone said Cisco isn't a part of globalization.JesusNext, he'll say Chambers isn't associated with Cisco.
6/28/2006 4:14:59 PM
so a guy posting on the wolf web in the middle of the work day knows cisco's long-term growth strategy. right.
6/28/2006 4:15:10 PM
so a guy random kid posting on the wolf web in the middle of the work day knows cisco's long-term growth strategy enough to refute someone that actually works at the company. right.[Edited on June 28, 2006 at 4:16 PM. Reason : .]
6/28/2006 4:16:10 PM
fuck man, I thought you already gave upbut please continue, this is entertaining
6/28/2006 4:17:07 PM
lol
6/28/2006 4:17:25 PM
I got to beat traffic team, I'm sorry I wasted your time trying to anatagonize your profession.
6/28/2006 4:18:23 PM
you've only wasted your own time, chief. The rest of us are just entertained by your idiotic ranting. But, hey, at least you know how to write a memo!
6/28/2006 4:26:50 PM
that's doubtful.
