NHL draft is tomorrow from 6-9 PM on OLN. It looks like there is a good chance that the Jack Johnson to Pittsburgh deal might go down. Here's who the team has under contract for next season:Rod Brind'Amour $3.99 million Oleg Tverdovsky $2.5 million Bret Hedican $2.432 million Mark Recchi $1.995 million Cory Stillman $1.75 million Ray Whitney $1.5 million Josef Vasicek $1.15 million Kevyn Adams $725,000 Andrew Ladd $688,940 Cam Ward $684,000 Anton Babchuk $675,500 Staal, Cole, and Williams are restricted free agents, so expect them back. Recchi's contract is listed above, but there is a team and player option on it. Hedican has indicated that he will re-sign with the team, and Wallin has shown interest in re-signing, but the talk is that he may return to Europe to play. At this point I would say Weight, Recchi, Cullen, and Gerber are the most likely to depart. Kaberle could go as well, but I'm really hoping they will bring him back. The goalie pool looks pretty thin, so Gerber could get big money from someone. I would expect Wesley to retire.

I speak for at least myself and one other that I'd like to see Cullen and Weight come back.
6/23/2006 2:45:28 PM
I think Weight's shoulder injury is pretty bad. Maybe we can get him @ a discount
6/23/2006 2:53:33 PM
I would love to see Cullen back, but I don't really have any hope for Weight. It's been known from the beginning that he is interested in returning to St. Louis. The Cullen situation is tough. He says he wants to return, but with the season he had, a lot of teams are going to be offering him more money than Rutherford.
6/23/2006 2:54:58 PM
Cullen is goin gto get PAID... by someone other than the 'Canes. We have too many players to sign and he will command a shit ton in the open market. I don't think Cullen is as attached to living in the area like some of the others are.
6/23/2006 3:04:47 PM
what about commadore?
6/23/2006 3:18:19 PM
6/23/2006 3:49:25 PM
I really hope we re-sign Kaberle, A Ward, and Cullen. Like others, I'm not too worried about re-signing Staal, Cole, and Williams, but how much $$ are they going to be getting is the big question.
6/23/2006 3:53:38 PM
my bad[Edited on June 23, 2006 at 3:59 PM. Reason : didnt see it there]
6/23/2006 3:58:34 PM
i'm glad stillman is comin back. that guy is clutch, and underappreciated
6/23/2006 4:17:06 PM
Oh for the love of God, do not let Jack Johnson go to Pitt.
6/23/2006 6:39:22 PM
6/23/2006 7:10:18 PM
ouch brind'amour just broke our bank
6/23/2006 9:10:13 PM
just 10% of our "cap"Who knows just how much of our actual spending money tho
6/23/2006 9:34:03 PM
what about big joe? he is a lovable oaf but he wouldn't be a great loss if he left.i really hope they re-sign frankie.as far as jack johnson is concerned, the penguins need defensive help BAD. it would work out for both teams if johnson ever leaves UM.[Edited on June 23, 2006 at 9:38 PM. Big deal just went down in the Southeast:
6/23/2006 10:16:33 PM
I would really like to see Johnson in an nhl game beofore we trade him. Some people say he is a fast scott stevens who can scrore goals.
6/23/2006 10:27:46 PM
Id love to see us pick up Pronger although im sure his contract would break our bank but dag, that would be one kick ass team with him added in, we'd have some deeeeep lines.
6/23/2006 11:57:55 PM
thats a pipe dream. our staff knows how to make stars, look what they did with staal.
6/24/2006 12:04:16 AM
Staal was a rookie with a ton of upside, hes was like drafting Lebron, u KNEW he was gonna be good....all the staff did on that one was put him on the team...granted he was good, real good, but still.
6/24/2006 12:14:42 AM
even still, staal exceeded all expectations
6/24/2006 12:33:04 AM
Meh, if he did, it wasn't by much. Or maybe since he didn't have the greatest of rookie seasons, expectations were set a little lower.
6/24/2006 12:38:51 AM
look at stillman.....he put up 7 fucking points when he won the cup w/ TB yet with the canes, hes a starmy end point is that the coaching+managers here are the best in the leauge, while our players arent quite the best (but close).[Edited on June 24, 2006 at 1:03 AM. Reason : 234]

its true that the organization saw Staal being an annual 100 pt guy they didn't see it happening in his sophomore season, he is 2 season ahead of schedule. They expected more of the pace Nathan Horton is taking on South Beach
6/24/2006 9:49:23 AM
alright, its draft day. Nashville is dangling Shea Webber for the number 2 pick. Shearo has his choice of Johnson or Webber for the pick. "My allegiance is to the Carolina Hurricanes, but if they want to trade me, by all means trade me," he said. "I want to go some place where they really want me." Thats from Johnson. We obviously really wanted him, we threw 3 rookie max deals at him. IF he does get traded and plays next season then it was because he refused to play for us. Which there has been alot of talk that his dad refuses to have a son work for Karmanos. He might very well be another Lindros dad. That being said, I hope the Canes draft Robyn Figgrin and Kai Kantola this weekend. COLTON YELLOW HORN Unsigned Free Agent '06
6/24/2006 10:37:50 AM
did anyone read the article on Staal's brother, Jordan?
6/24/2006 12:45:25 PM
OH HE BACKhttp://www.sportsnet.ca/Laviolette extends for 5 years!
6/24/2006 1:08:52 PM
Jordan sounds like a stud, and i think he fits with our schemes. Losing Johnson would suck, but with our style of play, defensemen are expendable i think. Just get a few fast young guys in the later rounds would offset losing Jack.
6/24/2006 1:44:44 PM
Rutherford has said on multiple occasions that he is not a fan of drafting defensemen. He would rather draft forwards, and sign free agents to fill holes on defense, as he feels defensemen take too long to develop. This would certainly fit with that line of thought.
6/24/2006 2:04:39 PM
what are the chances of us actually getting Staal's little brother?
6/24/2006 2:09:52 PM
6/24/2006 2:17:59 PM
Two words: KAI KANTOLA
6/24/2006 2:43:56 PM
wowthe word is that the panthers were asking for zetterberg and kronwall for luongo AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA
6/24/2006 3:12:53 PM
I don't believe that for a second if he went for Bert and Auld.
6/24/2006 3:18:05 PM
auld isn't the big deal to me, Bert and Luongo cancel each other out, the steal of this trade is Bryan Allen. lets just say Florida does in fact get Jovonavski in Free Agency. They have a blue line of EDJO, Sean Hill, Bryan Allen, and Bouwmeester. Through in Van Ryn and Rick Jackman, that is a damn good defense.
6/24/2006 3:26:31 PM
supposedly they cut off talks after they offered Samuelsson, Williams and draft picks for Luongo and Florida came back with the offer aboveHolland prolly was like gtfo
6/24/2006 3:29:02 PM
Martin Gerber would be cheaper for Detroit, thats who I'd sign atleast
6/24/2006 3:29:48 PM
attention is now on giguere
6/24/2006 3:32:41 PM
Babcock has had both Goalies, he knows whats up
6/24/2006 3:33:39 PM
Gerber would needn't new pads, either.[Edited on June 24, 2006 at 3:34 PM. Reason : s]
6/24/2006 3:34:40 PM
so who do you guys think you are going to get to back up Cam
6/24/2006 3:36:42 PM
Canes should trade for Devan Dubnyk
6/24/2006 3:40:09 PM
depending on the market value, I'd say John Grahame could be had for 2 years at 1 mill or soIf JR wants a reclamation project he could take on Cechmanek or Felix the cat for a million[Edited on June 24, 2006 at 3:42 PM. Reason : .]
6/24/2006 3:42:06 PM
DUBNYK?!?! May I interest you in some
