NC State isn't expected to release signee Larry Davis until Seton Hall agrees to push back a game at the Meadowlands by a year. The two teams played last year (Seton Hall won) in Raleigh. According to an NC State source, the Wolfpack aren't thrilled that Davis committed to Seton Hall so soon after they allowed his recruitment to be opened. NC State isn't too excited to go against Davis on the road. Ultimately, NC State is expected to release Davis but wants to play hardball on the game, with the thinking that if Seton Hall really wants Davis, the Pirates will give up on the return game with Wolfpack until 2007. If NC State doesn't release Davis, he would have to sit out his freshman season. NC State had until Tuesday to make a decision, since that was the 15-day deadline after Davis requested a release. Davis can make another request, but NC State is waiting to hear on the game change.

6/21/2006 9:15:44 AM

6/21/2006 9:16:50 AM
6/21/2006 9:22:36 AM
getting out of the house a bit would probably cure that

Why he chose that place AFTER visiting it and seeing how shitty their facilities are is beyond me. Someone somewhere up there not only got him laid but promised him a lot more putang. That's the only way it could be possible.Probably pumped up his ego saying that he'd be the big fish in their small pond. Fuckers.

One of the conditions of the conditional release was that Lowe would get a final crack at him. It's my understanding that that did not happen before his committment to Seton Hall. Plus that he would go to a team we're supposed to play this coming year complicates things further. We are under no legal obligation, and from my standpoint (assuming I am correct about his conditional release) no moral obligation to release him.
6/21/2006 10:11:44 AM
what a bunch of bitchesi hate Sidney Lowe
6/21/2006 10:11:59 AM
well morale obligation could be argued, but we definitly aren't required to release him
6/21/2006 10:23:34 AM
^^You hate Sidney Lowe. What exactly has he done to make you hate him already? Or are you still crying about Herbie leaving? What a bitch.[Edited on June 21, 2006 at 10:25 AM. Reason : asgd]
6/21/2006 10:24:43 AM
Davis signed a LOI with us, then went back on it. We gave him a conditional release with the condition that he let us get a chance to recruit him, and he didn't live up to that. He was recruited underhandedly before he was released from his LOI by Seton Hall, an opponent next year. And you people wonder why we're playing hard ball?
6/21/2006 10:25:12 AM
Fuck him. He committed to NC State - NOT Herb Sendeck and NOT the modified Princeton Offense.I wish NC State would tell him to to enjoy sitting on the old run-down bench at Seton Hall next year.
6/21/2006 10:25:29 AM
moot point now: new york daily news is reporting we have released him, and the game will go on as scheduled.
6/21/2006 10:25:49 AM
6/21/2006 10:27:58 AM
i hate Sidney Lowe because he should have said to Lee Fowler, when offered the coaching job, "no thanks, but I've never coached a single college game, I don't have a college degree (although I'm working on an over-the-phone degree right now) and I haven't been associated with anything college-related since 1983, so I might be a bit rusty. thanks but no thanks."
6/21/2006 10:28:34 AM
Yeah, you're right, especially cause we had much better coaches just waiting in the wings to come in and restore us to glory.
6/21/2006 10:34:46 AM
indeed... at this poing Lowe might have been the best we could have gotten... and don't bring up Whittenburg, at best that's a parallel hire...
6/21/2006 10:38:10 AM
The right thing to do is to release him. No problem trying to get something you want out of it before doing it though, which according to that Daily News article is exactly what we tried to do... whats the problem?
6/21/2006 10:45:48 AM
To be fair it was a lose-lose situation for us.Either way Seton Hall was getting the recruit and the home game.
6/21/2006 10:46:18 AM
I don't see this as a big deal.Larry Davis didn't give us an opportunity to re-recruit him, Seton Hall recruited before they were allowed to....so therefore we should be able to get out of the game.Seton Hall should be happy with this recruit and take the deal.
6/21/2006 11:03:10 AM
6/21/2006 11:03:59 AM
What NC State should do is tell Davis not to let the door hit his ass on the way out, go up to NJ next year and beat the living shit out of Seton Hall and make sure that Davis gets pwned all over the court. What will happen in reality is that Davis will drop 20 on us in what will be the best game of his college career and we'll lose by 40.
6/21/2006 11:18:20 AM
i'd rather play them this year than next year.i mean this year will be the first year with a new coach for both teams, so it's not like they have an established program either.we could just go up there and beat them with our athleticism, i would think.
6/21/2006 11:40:01 AM
Wait so we wanted to give Larry Davis a year to develop before playing him instead of getting him and Seton Hall's coach in their first years. Seems somewhat illogical to me, but thats NC State Sports for you.
6/21/2006 11:47:48 AM
I think State wanted to give itself a year under Lowe to develop. Seton Hall next year will just be one more loss.

6/21/2006 11:52:45 AM
he didnt commit to a coach, he committed to a universityobviously the coach wasnt the only thing he was looking for or he would be going to asuand once you sign your letter of intent, you are in a binding agreement to attend said universityso if you choose to leave, you are transferring and you have to sit out a year
6/21/2006 12:17:55 PM
why do we care if we play Seton Hall this year or next? what's the difference
6/21/2006 12:47:10 PM
maybe we don't want lose by 90 again

Sidney Lowe is a college graduate, NCAA-certified and already has defused his first potential coaching conflict. Not bad for the first two weeks on the job at NC State. Lowe said he has finished his degree requirements for St. Paul's College (Va.) and passed his NCAA test to allow him to recruit in July. "Everything's done and now I'm ready to go out on the road in July and see some guys," said Lowe, who took over for Herb Sendek in May but couldn't start until Detroit was eliminated by Miami from the Eastern Conference semifinals. Lowe's first potential coaching flap concerned Wolfpack signee Larry Davis. At first, the NC State administration balked at releasing Davis to Seton Hall, but at the 11th hour (the school has 15 days to respond), the Wolfpack decided to release Davis on Tuesday. Davis is the second player to get a release from NC State. The other was Dan Werner, who is going to Florida. Without a release, the player is subject to sitting out and losing his freshman season. Initially, there were feelings among some at NC State that Davis' commitment to Seton Hall came too quickly after he was granted a release to explore his options -- the first step in granting a full release. Regarding Davis' quick commitment, the Pirates saw it go down rather simply: Sendek left NC State and then Davis' good friend Eugene Harvey committed to play for Gonzalez. That's it, according to Seton Hall. Lowe and Seton Hall coach Bobby Gonzalez talked and it was determined by both coaches that there was no inappropriate contact. "Seton Hall never tampered," Lowe said. "No one here is going to the NCAA with that. I want to dismiss that. By no means is any of that true." The main thing for NC State earlier Tuesday was to decide what to do with a return game the Wolfpack owes Seton Hall at the Meadowlands. The initial thrust was to put off the game for a year or two, since Davis would then be playing against the Wolfpack. Lowe helped diffuse the situation, though, and the game will be played next season, as planned, at a date and time to be determined. "We want the kid to be happy and go where he wants to go," Lowe said. "He made a commitment here with the thought that coach Sendek would be here. He changed his mind and you have to respect that." Seton Hall athletic director Joe Quinlan said the two issues were independent. He said there are always sensitivities as it relates to a player getting out of a letter of intent, but the game had nothing to do with that. Quinlan said he would have never agreed to cancel the return game. Seton Hall, by the way, won at NC State last season in a game that could be pointed to as one of the reasons the Pirates earned an NCAA Tournament berth. As for Lowe, he did keep one of Sendek's recruits -- Dennis Horner, a small forward from Absecon, N.J. He said he has eight players on scholarship for next season. Lowe also said Andrew Brackman will play basketball next season instead of solely concentrating on baseball. Brackman injured his hip during the baseball season. The 6-10 rising junior averaged 7.6 points off the bench but likely will have a much larger role with sophomore center Cedric Simmons off to the NBA. Meanwhile, Lowe said rising senior point Engin Atsur has committed to returning. Atsur would be the top returning scorer for the Wolfpack at 10.8 points a game.

He was a bitch for not letting Sidney recruit him one last time. At least make it look like we had a chance. It doesnt change the outcome in the long run, and he could have left without any hard feelings. Now I think Sidney should send in the goons to throw an elbow to Davis's jaw when he gets in the game next year.
6/22/2006 8:00:44 AM
yeah, because that certainly wont be a bitch move
