Should it be illegal?i say yes.

cunt blockingthere i did it
6/18/2006 5:33:13 PM
I thought this thread was about Wake Forest football.
6/18/2006 5:35:27 PM
theres no reason to make it illegal is all, i mean some teams need to do iti hate being cut blocked, but its nothing too dangerous unless its totally unrelated to the play, football players know how to defend against a cut block, you use your hands
6/18/2006 5:35:33 PM
just kinda reminds me of horse collar tackling. its like a lazy way to do somethin, and it can occasionally result in serious injuries.
6/18/2006 5:42:33 PM
in my opinion that shouldnt have been banned either, i just dont see where a definitive line can be drawn anymore
6/18/2006 5:43:36 PM
you know when a guy has been yanked down between the shoulders. too many different injuries can result from that. as was said earlier it's a cheap tactic.
6/18/2006 5:47:38 PM
its not a cheap tactic, you cant quit on a playsometimes thats all there is left to grab, if you happened to take a poor anglei still think its a crappy rule change, if it wasnt TO that got hurt it never would have been institutedBUT THATS JUST MY OPINION, I UNDERSTAND THE ARGUMENT OF THE OTHER SIDE OK[Edited on June 18, 2006 at 5:57 PM. there was a situation during one of the big games (this past nfl season) where a qb was tryn to make a tackle, and he mistakenly took out the one of the blockers (in the process of making the tackle) via cut. He got a penalty, and I was like wtf?!?!?I think theres too much red tape in the nfl nowadays. I say it should be legal. Every position wants to be protected now, in the future its going to be similar to flag football!I got pissed off at the cb rule of jamming a while ago.
6/18/2006 6:08:58 PM
cut blocks should be legal at the line of scrimmage - it's the only think that can make up huge differences in the size of linemen between smaller schools and NFL-talent teams
6/18/2006 6:32:19 PM
why the fuck should it be illegal? it's one of the best blocks in football.
6/18/2006 7:00:30 PM
the tecmo super bowl cut block was awesomedude would take 3-5 steps, slide, and anyone made popcorn out of anyone who touched him
6/18/2006 7:41:10 PM
Now are we talking about cut blocking or chock blocking. The former where the offensive lineman dives at a defenders knees, or the latter where on OL blocks a player to stand him up and be vulnerable to a hit from the side... there seems to be some confusion about the two.
6/18/2006 10:30:40 PM
YES
6/18/2006 10:35:59 PM
I used moves that I leanred in wrestling to avoid cut/dive blocks... if you can come off the ball fast enough and get under the o-lineman and get into the backfied, he won't do it a again and his coach will go ballistic.
6/18/2006 11:00:45 PM
^^^ but whats the DH
6/18/2006 11:06:06 PM
The guy who comforts the figure skaters when they see their scores and start crying?
6/18/2006 11:16:30 PM
we're discussing cut blocking while they're BANNING END ZONE CELEBRATIONS?!?!??!?!?!
6/18/2006 11:38:09 PM
cut blocking could actually impact the outcome of a game... I'm still not clear... was the original post refering to a solo dive at a defender or a coordinated effort by the O-line to prop a defender up and have another lineman dive at his knees?
6/19/2006 12:25:03 AM
thats not cut blocking, thats high-low and that shit is flat out illegal
6/19/2006 12:29:23 AM
^The chock block... so we're talking about a Off. Lineman Diving at the knees of a defender? "cutting"
6/19/2006 12:46:48 AM
yeah, i know Dr Z on cnnsi.com is totally against the cut blocking, but he never defined it. what is it?
6/19/2006 12:41:46 PM
well what i was basing my opinion on was where the o-linemen dive at the defensive linemen's legs in order to make the block, like the broncos have been doin for years. what inspired the thread was the rumors section of cnnsi where they talked about the packers changing their blocking strategy to the cut block as well. it seems like this has more potential for injury than the horse collar tackle, and it just seems to be a lazy way to go about blocking. i understand there are strategies around it, but in a time where they are trying to eliminate some of the things that have potential for the most injury, it surprises me that cut blocking is still allowed.
6/19/2006 12:51:09 PM
WHAT THE FUCK IS A "CHOCK" BLOCK????????
6/19/2006 12:53:04 PM
^An example of our definition of a "chock block" would be a OG blocking a DT, try to hold him or stand him up as much as possible while the OT dives at the DT's knees from the side while he is stood up.A "cut block" might simply be the center or guard diving at a noseguard's knees at the snap, forcing the DL to pretty much jump or kick his legs out to prevent injury. Ergo, taking him out of the play. But, I suppose different teams have many different terminologies.
6/19/2006 1:08:49 PM
CHOP BLOCK
6/19/2006 1:09:25 PM
We used "chock" as in how you would chock the tire of a truck or trailer... essentially the DL was chocked b/f he was hit from the side.
6/19/2006 2:29:22 PM
^^I agree
6/19/2006 2:49:54 PM
beardawg, can you explain one more timei mean, you only did like 20 times already but I think i missed the pointand anyway cut blockin should be legal, it's part of the game. Teams like ATL and Denver will live and die by the cut block
6/19/2006 2:57:36 PM
why did I read "Cock Blocking"???
6/19/2006 3:42:56 PM
ive also always heard it as a chop block, not a chock block

cut blocking is not dangerous. in fact, it saves a huge impact when you can just basically trip the guy with your body, preventing contact injuries.as a former offensive lineman, cut blocks are a good thing.as a former defensive lineman, cut blocks are a bitch, but they are part of the game, and if you are good enough, you can get around them.
