I am thinking about getting a satellite radio but don't really know anything about them. I would like to have one that would work in my car and also in my house, I think. Is there anything I should know or consider before buying? Anybody got something for sale?

I got an audiovox unit to transfer between my house, my office, and my work truck. So far I really like it.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 10:28 PM. Reason : XM radio]

All I have to say is go with Sirius. I work at Circuit City and from what I been seeing from the two companies, Sirius is the best call. You can even get State games on there. Go with Starmate Replay. Thats what I have.

people are tending to go with sirius more now.... XM tends to be a thing of the past

^ havent seen much to support that at all... if anything, the gap between sirius and XM is getting bigger aside from the initial Stern increase. XM is a lot more stable, they have a lot more guaranteed contracts already set up for the next 10 years at least. I wouldnt be suprised to see Sirius fade away in the next 5 years unless Stern and the NFL can carry it. The music selections are about the same, XM has more sports (including the ACC) and baseball but Sirius does have NFL... but then again, if you really care about the NFL are you going to be in your car on a sunday if you can help it?[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 11:18 PM. You can get a Roady2 (for XM) for ~$15 at walmart, and it goes from house to car pretty easily. My ipod broke so I got one (and am borrowing an uncle's XM subscription ) and it's OK. I prefer Sirius, but something is better than nothing, right?]

Looking at the recent stock financials, several analysts have upgraded Sirius and downgraded XM. Sirius subscribers have surged and XM's rate has declined for new subscribers. XM has a higher churn rate (% of subscribers who cancel service) than Sirius. Everything from the financial sector points to Sirius being the better long term play, so if you want a good satellite service, Sirius has less chance of going financially insolvent. That and they have better content.

i had sirius and loved it. the only reason i still dont have it is because i came to college and never had my car.

dude, I picked up the home stereo kit and the boombox for my detachable reciever both online for $15 a piece onlinethe in-car installs are nice, but not that practical really

^^^ noooo... true Sirius has increased and the gap has closed a bit, but thats just because there was a huge gap to begin with and it couldnt really get any bigger... but there is still a big gap... XM had such a huge head start and is in MUCH better shape financially. Sirius is around 4 a share (even after Stern), XM is at 14.[Edited on June 13, 2006 at 2:19 AM. Reason : d]

Anyone who thinks Sirius is gonna overtake XM needs to hire a money manager.

yup... obviously Sirius' subscribers are going to increase, they have finally partnered with a couple of auto manufacturers to get them included, but once again they are about 3 years behind XM on this.... so now that they are finally getting subscribers through this method then their numbers will go up.and speaking of that... doesnt hurt that the car companies that went with XM are probably the top two in the world, Toyota and Honda. I trust their judgment over Chrysler and Mazda.

XM's technology is better...they even broadcast weather data on their satellites, and have a partnership with Worldspace...they could become the first global satellite radio company.

To the guy up there who said State games come on Sirius...are you sure you know what you're talking about?XM has a contract for ACC games; Sirius has all the Big East games. XM has all the MLB games; Sirius has all the NFL games. That's the dividing point for a lot of folks...Sirius came w/ my Jeep, and it's "free" for a year. It's alright, but it pisses me off that State games aren't on it. I won't renew with the "free year" is up...I just honestly do not listen to the radio enough to warrant paying for it.

i think my xm is worth it just for the State games. my parents have a mountain house and there have been weekends i have had to go up there with them and i can at least listen to the game in the car if i can't watch it.you can get a boombox thing and put it inside. xm is also free online if you have the service.
