Partly because I know some people who have been some and bitched that they didn't get tips, partly because I wanted to make the thread. These people don't do crap but walk the food to your car and get the plastic silverware for you, and they get paid a real wage, not the server $2.15 or whatever.I wouldn't tip one of these bitches ever.
6/12/2006 6:47:50 PM
You tell 'em, chief.
6/12/2006 7:57:11 PM
They're called carhops, and if they're skating or it's raining or anything, you'd better goddamn well tip, you fat, lazy bastard.
6/12/2006 7:59:16 PM
do you rollerskate in the rain often frosh?

I would never tip for this... I'll go in and get it myself if I can. If the only thing they have is curb service then that is not my responsibility to tip. When I was a server for 2 years, all carryouts went through the bar..but of course the servers actually had to pack everything up in bags and carry it to the bar (i don't think we should have been tipped anyways ,mind you) but the bartenders WOULD get tipped for checking the people out and keep it for themselves... douchebags.

Yeah those high school bitches at Outback definitely don't bartend from their little booth in the back...

welllllll, I work at Outback, and I am not in high school.we get paid 2.15 when we work takeaway and when we serve or bartend. also, some people are specifically hired to work just take-awaywe take your order, we bag up the entire order (apps, salads, meat, sides, silverware, bread, extra dressings, etc.), we are entirely responsible for what goes in your bag....not the kitchen, not the bar, not the managers, just us.we depend on tips.i cant speak for any other restaurant, just Outback.this is NotSure's girlfriend, btw
6/13/2006 9:15:38 AM
yeah i've always wondered what the rules for tipping take-out is. Its like a grey area. u definitly don't tip fastfood, then u have your diner kinda places, and then your restaurants.what do u tip for take out?
6/13/2006 11:27:47 AM
I don't ever tip period. Fuck that. I have better things to do with my money.
6/13/2006 11:30:33 AM
My boyfriend and I always order food to go from places like applebees, macaroni grill ect. and we never tip. Truthfully we never thought to tip. I mean I drive to the restaurant, walk in, pay and walk it back out to my car, just like what I would do if we went to Burger King. So why should we tip at one place for more expensive food then at the cheaper food places?
6/13/2006 2:03:30 PM
"what do u tip for take out?"depends on what you getsome ppl come to outback for a baked potatosome ppl come to outback and order $150 worth of take-out.....i'd say a dollar for something real simple, and like 10% for larger orders.
6/13/2006 2:05:09 PM
Many places charge you a fee/auto gratuity for doing the takeout, so they are getting extra money for the service. Why do they need more?
6/13/2006 3:38:48 PM
are they coming to my house to clean the table after we eat?
6/13/2006 3:41:03 PM

^Haha. I laughed at that too.

i picked up food from an outback once & straight up asked the guy if i was supposed to tip him. he told me that some people leave a dollar or two but that it isn't necessary.
6/13/2006 4:12:33 PM
^^ that HS education isnt really going to work if you chose a job that had an ambiguous tipping requirement. at least customers know you are supposed to tip waiters and bartenders. it'd be like choosing to waitress (if you want to call it that) at sweet tomatoes or cici's.
6/13/2006 4:26:17 PM
^ at least they clean the table afterward

"that sounds like a pretty demanding job for someone that made it through highschool - you definitely need a tip make sure items are what customer orderedput items in bagdo not lose bag while waiting for customer to get therei mean i guess you do more than take the top off of a beer"So that means I should only make $2.13/hr?Have you EVER worked in a busy restaurant with lots of demanding customers?I'm talking about a couple bucks tip in most cases...if you cant afford that on top of buying outback food then dont come.

Damn, I wrap presents at work all the time (barnes & noble) and the older ladies try to tip me and I never accept it, it seems wrong. One thing that ticks me off are tip jars at starbucks or TCBY or ben & jerry's. It's like dammit, you're getting paid X.XX wages/hour, you aren't making $2.13Has anyone here ever worked at Hooters? Or know anyone that has? Drop me a line - I'm interested.

I also work at a take away restuarant. I think anyone that doesnt tip when someone is WAITING/GIVING TAKE-AWAY SERVICE(which includes having to sit on the phone with you, putting all of your picky orders in the bag, and dealing with you in person....which is obviously painful since your the type of person who doesnt tip) on them is a miserable fuck who probably needs the money to buy porn off of the computer because no decent girl/guy would ever be with a guy/girl who is so cheap that they show their ignorrance and their selfishness in one comment/action. Why dont you just scream "I have never been exposed to anything but McDonald's in my shitty redneck town, aren't I awesome!"Besides, if you do not feel any generosity towards your fellow man then I feel sorry for what a sad and unfufilling life you are going to lead.and we DO get paid 2.15, our paychecks end up being about 25 dollars every two weeks
6/14/2006 3:49:45 PM
6/14/2006 3:51:30 PM
do your job and shut up. if you don't get paid enough, get another one. a person who hands me a bag of food does not deserve a tip.

it is always the random noobs who come on, call ppl greedy fucks, and have no logical points to support their argument.lemme guess, if we dont support the president than we love terrorism as well.
6/14/2006 5:56:49 PM
all the n00bs are coming out of their lurking existence to cry about how they need more tips, go back to your fucking wral porn
6/14/2006 6:13:47 PM
I'm sorry us stupid n00bs get in the way of your daily ritual posts of "I will pay someone to take my virginity" on craigslist
6/14/2006 8:37:34 PM
I'm still confused about the part where it's our responsibility as customers to pick up the slack for your employer paying you like shit.
6/14/2006 8:46:55 PM
I'm still confused why you eat outback if you cant afford it
6/14/2006 9:03:52 PM
I'd tip for some reading comprehension.
6/14/2006 9:04:58 PM
6/15/2006 8:30:04 AM
the employer pays them shit b/c you are EXPECTED to tip, unless your service really sucks.
6/15/2006 8:53:34 AM
6/15/2006 8:56:41 AM
i think it is obvious from this thread that most ppl dont expect to have to tip for carryout food.
6/15/2006 9:04:43 AM
^^well, your waiter is expected to not stir your food with his junk before he brings it to you, and refraining from doing so doesn't really have any adverse effect on him. Does that mean that it he should go ahead and do it?
6/15/2006 9:31:13 AM
i can understand wanting the price of the tip to be factored into the price of the food, but FULLY UNDERSTANDING THAT IT'S NOT, I can't understand how someone would figure that tipping isn't necessary. You know damn well that waitstaff work almost strictly for tips--by not tipping, you are effectively having them perform a service for you for a 30 minutes or an hour, then not paying them for it.Furthermore, the system as it stands right now rewards the best waitstaff and allows the consumer to pay what is warranted for the service delivered--but that is placing trust in the consumer's judgement not to take advantage of the situation.[Edited on June 15, 2006 at 9:35 AM. 6/15/2006 10:09:16 AM
I think it is okay for you to think that you dont have to tip if you get out of your car and walk inside, but if you sit in your car the whole time the least you can do is tip a $1, I dont see why everyone is complaining about a $1, its a nice gester, stop acting like fucking yankees
