I have been looking/reading about these for a while but I was wondering does anybody have experience with any good GPS programs/usb receivers? I was thinking about maybe buying Google Earth Plus and getting a USB receiver for it but wasn't sure how well it would work.

I use Delorme Street Atlas. I bought the softtware and GPS receiver for my laptop together, it was $80 or $90 I think. It is as good as any software I think.. When you put it it in 'route' mode it tells you when your next turn is, how far away, voice navigation, etc.

Garmin and Magellan are two reliable brands for fairly inexpensive GPS receivers, fyi

what is your primary use for this going to be - general information or driving directions? - for driving directions you can't beat mapmonkey or iguidance

you can get some of them for $100-$200...i dont consider that too expensive for a GPS that you can also use without a computer but maybe thats just me

well if you can kill 2 birds with one stone

you should have definitely recommended buying a new car with navigation built into the dash - even more birds with just 1 stone

Yeah, I'm not looking for just a receiver, I'm looking for software and a receiver. If its bundled cool, if I have to buy them seperate thats fine too.My use is basically just driving directions for road trips and stuff.Omar, you mentioned iGuidance, I've heard really good things about that, have you used it yourself?

pictures in my gallery - i use it for my car pc - it's the best i think

I'm still trying to figure out why you took pictures of a Car LCD in the sun.
6/13/2006 8:05:30 PM
because i wanted some pictures at that moment and it happened to be sunny - i had just finished utting it in when i took those

spend the couple dollars for a polarizing lens for those screens, it helps a LOTi would vote for iguidance for actual interactive gps software, ms streets & trips is great for just mapping, not really guidance software.[Edited on June 13, 2006 at 10:49 PM. Reason : .]
