a little over a week ago i was at stool pigeons on thursday which is $1.50 domestics and $3.50 mixed drinks. Anyway i ordered a beer and tipped the bartender a $1; then i decided to buy a drink for one of the girls that my friend brought along so i bought her a drink and gave the bartender a $5 - $1.50 tip. $2.50 tip total on $5 of drinks. so a lil while latr i finish my beer and decide to order another beer. when the bartender asks for the money i give her $2 b.c i didn't want to break my $20. the bartender (same one that served me before) takes my cash gives me a disrespectful smug and in a rude tone is like thanks alot. it wasn't like i stiffed her, still gave her half a dollor on a $1.50 drink. it rly pissed me off b.c total i've left around 40%. opinions? how do u guys tip at the bar?
6/12/2006 2:04:35 PM
I DON'T TIP BARTENDERS....THEY MAKE ENOUGH MONEY ALREADY
6/12/2006 2:06:17 PM
i run a tab on my card and then tip ~20% rounded up to the nearest full dollar ammount.
6/12/2006 2:09:32 PM
always start a tab to avoid that.
6/12/2006 2:17:26 PM
Usually $1 per drink is acceptable I think. Oh, never start a tab. They might "accidently" add extra drinks.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 2:30 PM. Reason : ...]
6/12/2006 2:30:16 PM
thats something alcoholics say when they wake up in the morning & find $50 bar tabs
6/12/2006 2:37:23 PM
6/12/2006 2:39:46 PM
dont be a bartender if you dont want to hear people bitching about their tabs.
6/12/2006 2:40:58 PM
I had an instance, where some faggot bartender tells me that my card isn't swiping, so he takes my friend's card and swipes it...not only that, he swipes him for a dollar less, and when I ask why he's like they charge an extra dollar on debit cards. I was like ok/don't care. When I get back, my card had been charged as well as my friend's card.faggotand this is one of those Red Room/Hi5/Bogarts.
6/12/2006 2:41:35 PM
If you get so drunk that you keep buying drink after drink, you deserve a $50 bar tab, and if you're going to get that many drinks, i doubt that paying cash will change anything.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 2:44 PM. Reason : i've never had a problem with extra drinks on a tab.]
6/12/2006 2:42:37 PM
6/12/2006 2:57:03 PM
there's one bartender there I know, and he's always been cool with me (he used to work at Flying Saucer too)... but there are definately some dick bartenders there i had one guy get pissed at me because i wanted to put one beer on my card (i was gonna be leaving soon, had already closed my tab, but was gonna be there for one more beer- what did he expect?)
6/12/2006 3:09:42 PM
First off always start a tab. and secondthe better you tip me......A. the stronger your drinks will beB. I will serve you first when I have a bar full of peopleAnd I love to hear "blah blah blah bartenders should do their job anyways regardless of how they get tipped blah blah blahWell that is just not how the business is. Every bar almost every bartender i know plays by these same rules. If you don't like get get your own beer/liquor and sit at home and pour it yourself. Regardless of how you feel about bars or bartenders, it's not going to change anything....every month I have bills to pay and I am going to get them paid the easiest way possible.Oh and HUR, you tipped just fine I wouldn't worry about it. Most of the bartenders I have encountered at stool pigeons have been assholes. Try out some other bars that don't deal with strictly college students like stool pigeons does because anyone would be an asshole bartender after dealing with that crowd nightly.[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 3:21 PM. 6/12/2006 3:10:15 PM
i usually tip a lot at the beginning of the night and when i go back to the bar i am often served before people who have been waiting
6/12/2006 3:17:38 PM
i normally give a dollar for every other beer I get and If i go get a few beers for people I just give a dollar for 3 or so beers. I dont drink mixed drinks so I dont deal with that shat.
6/12/2006 3:19:13 PM
thats low
6/12/2006 3:21:48 PM
6/12/2006 3:23:52 PM
see as the beers I buy are about 2 dollars each its more than enough. If my beer is 5 bucks I'll tip a dollar.
6/12/2006 3:27:05 PM
I was shocked to go to Hi5 the other week and find out I was the only white person there, and then promptly getting stuck on the dance floor! Two dudes were smokin a big J in the bathroom lol.
6/12/2006 3:32:47 PM
I don't see the point in tipping the bartender for simply taking the bottle cap off of my beer. That's like paying him a dollar to do 5 seconds of work. But I do it anyway.
6/12/2006 3:36:17 PM
I dont tip the bartender, but then I take my copy of the receipt and put a tip on it before I put it on my expense report.I do the same thing for food too.
6/12/2006 3:40:30 PM
^ I agree, fuck that. I dont get tipped for getting cd's for people when they're too stupid to fuckin look for them.
6/12/2006 3:41:01 PM
^^ so u don't tip?
6/12/2006 3:50:33 PM
nope, not at all
6/12/2006 3:52:47 PM
gotta be a troll attempt so i wont respond
6/12/2006 3:58:34 PM
LIKE THE OTHER GUY SAID BEFORE....IF YOU DON'T TIP AND ITS BUSY I HOPE YOU DON'T MIND WAITING 30 MINUTES AT THE BAR FOR EACH DRINK......THERE ARE 5 PEOPLE CROWDED AROUND YOU THAT WILL TIP SO I WILL MAKE SURE THEY ARE TAKEN CARE OF FIRST......I THINK IT IS BULLSHIT TOO TO TIP ON SOMEONE POPPING A BOTTLE FOR YOU BUT HEY THATS JUST THE WAY IT IS...........IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT WE PERSONALLY DON'T CARE IF YOU COME OUT AND SPEND YOUR MONEY OR NOT...STAY HOME[Edited on June 12, 2006 at 4:23 PM. Reason : I RESPOND TO ALL TROLL ATTEMPTS]
6/12/2006 4:23:16 PM
considering im in different cities different days, i hardly ever see the same ppl twice, and i usually sign the receipt and leave, so they dont get to see my face again after i leave nothing, i doubt they will remember if i hit the same place again after a month or so
6/12/2006 4:26:45 PM
I dont hang out anywhere with a slow bar unless its against my will. It really pisses me off when my buzz is dwindling while I wait at a bar alongside 50,000 people and only one bartender working. That is fucking crap.
6/12/2006 4:29:25 PM
6/12/2006 4:43:14 PM
see, he is not only admitting to ripping off server but also to ripping off his companygotta be a troll, not even that douchebag is THAT much of a waste of lifeor i would hope anyway
6/12/2006 5:01:19 PM
then im very charitable
6/12/2006 5:02:22 PM
when i get somebody that leaves no tip i throw the receipt away and put in 15%that way i can claim i fucked up and there is no proof
6/12/2006 5:05:55 PM
6/12/2006 5:09:05 PM
When they get smart with you like that, ask for exact change back and don't tip at all. Uppity fucking servants.
6/12/2006 5:42:51 PM
^IF YOU THINK WE ARE SPEAKING TO YOU IN A CONDESCENDING TONE ITS BECAUSE WE ARE....DRUNK LOSER
6/12/2006 5:45:38 PM
My system has always been very simple:1) Go frequently to just one bar.2) Tip 30-50%3) Enjoy my free drinksHere lately the free drinks have been a little slow, because I've been going to Katmandu and they don't pull enough business to offer much. My solution has been to go on days when my regular bartender is off, because he invariably comes in to get drunk that night (since he can't any other night) and then buys drinks for us regulars like it's going out of style."Hey! Hey! You see these guys here...these guys...man...they're the best (hiccup!) customers you'd ever want to meet...get them a round on me.""Max, they just bought a round.""Bring 'em another one! Make them drink faster! And this guy, this guy here, get him a bartenders' crack. No. Get him two bartenders' cracks."Which reminds me, what the hell goes into one of those? It tasted like toothpaste that was about 140 proof.
6/12/2006 5:51:34 PM
I tip, usually 50-100% of what my tab is. most people don't tip worth shit. I work in a bar and get to hear all the bartenders complain about shitty tippers. KEB is right, the better you tip, the better your service will be.
6/12/2006 6:03:41 PM
how much do bartenders get paid before tips?
6/12/2006 6:10:01 PM
How can the bartenders say to start a tab and then claim that drinks will come faster if you tip well?
6/12/2006 6:17:22 PM
well the people who regularly stiff the bartenders are easy to stereotype by not having a credit card either.
6/12/2006 6:20:17 PM
Call some friends over to your place, or go to one of theirs.Make your drinks as strong as you want them, drink as many beers as you want. You can hear each other's conversations. No tipping involved.
6/12/2006 6:29:22 PM
I don't go to bars much, but when I do I use the same standard for tipping bartenders as I do for food servers.I always start a tab and if your service is good, you'll get atleast a 25% tip from me.If you are slow and act like an asshole, I'll probably leave you a dollar, maybe just a nickel if you really piss me off.If you are great, make my girls' drinks strong, and keep my beer full, maybe 50%.
6/12/2006 6:34:20 PM
^ i use the same systemexcept i only tip >20% if they were exceptional
6/12/2006 6:46:19 PM
tip however much you want, but if you take care of the bartender, they'll take care of you...that's from both sides of the bar
6/12/2006 7:11:25 PM
I only tip them well when I want to sleep with them
6/12/2006 7:13:52 PM
dollar a drink seems pretty normal. if im getting things that are 2.50 or lower i generally just leave a dollar every other time. then again i normally just start a tab and decide on whatever i feel like at the end of the night.
6/12/2006 7:19:00 PM
I went to this one bar on st pattys day and it was fucking packed. i started a tab on my card and it was freaking great. There'd be a line at the bar and they'd serve me first.big tip on that one.
