p.s. I've heard the novels, both graphic and wordy-type, are good.

I guess if he figured out a way to get the gas out it'd be no biggie, but I'd think that once everybody on the world was dead infrastructures like electricity to power the pumps might be a problem.

I watched the Omega Man last night again. I hope this new film has at least one "vampire" with a big ass afro and lots of soul.

Also I read somewhere that the dog in the new film is actually Will Smith's son in an animatronic suit.

"Does gas go bad?"

Gasoline breaks down and goes bad fairly quickly, whether it is in your car or in a gas-station. Within two years, if I remember correctly, the gasoline will gum up the fuel injectors and refuse spark ignition. But if Legend added a fuel stabilizer and stored it properly in air-tight containers underground then it could remain usable for several decades, only needing to filter it before use.

Quote :
"but I'd think that once everybody on the world was dead infrastructures like electricity to power the pumps might be a problem."

Absolutely right. The island of Manhattan used to have streams that ran across much of the island. Today, that water is still flowing; it is just falling into sump pumps and being pumped using electricity into the rivers. When humans vanish, pretty soon the power grid fails, and these pumps stop operating. Within 48 hours, regardless of the volume of rain, the subway system will be flooded and all the building foundations will become water-logged. Within a month, the storm drains will become clogged with debris and the water will form streams flowing down the streets. Within a few decades, the steel supports will rust away inside flooded underground structures, causing the streets above to crater and collapse. As water seeps into cracks in disrepaired building foundations, the steel contained there-in will rust and deform, further breaking up the surrounding concrete. After enough of this, perhaps only 40 years, buildings will begin to lean and eventually topple over, taking down other buildings as they collapse.

saw the trailer but didn't get a sense of what's supposed to have happened. Is this like Independence Day; aliens attack earth, but here only Will Smith and a few other vagrants remain? Or is it supposed to be a mystery? I don't remember any obvious destruction in the trailer and there are no bodies anywhere; people were just missing and weeds were overgrown.

i saw the preview for this while waiting on 'knocked up', and it inspired me to go and read the book - apparently it inspired some other folks too, because i went to three bookstores before i found it

can't wait for december now, and vampires aren't even usually my cup of tea - hopefully the movie's halfway as well-crafted as the book

Yeah I had been meaning to read this book after some of my friends raved about it and after I found out Richard Matheson also wrote "What Dreams May Come", so I finally read it, it's a really short but good read.

It wasn't quite what I was expecting but based on the movie it might be quite different, so it should be interesting.

I was reading Entertainment Weekly and the director says that there are not vampires in the film. All the people have been infected somehow, but they're not vampires.

First movie that I really want to see in a while.

I would assume there are plenty of batteries and generators to be had... but then again I will probably just watch the movie an see the explanation of certain things instead of wonder/guess/assume right now.

do you want to credit any of this information, or did you just happen to come to these conclusions completely independently of Alan Wiseman's The World Without Us?
