Does anyone know when they will update aid information online? I thought they did it earlier than this the last couple of years.

My account was recently updated (the last week or two). It lists a federal pell grant that was awarded to me months ago when my FAFSA was received. Within the last week, another grant has been listed. However, my financial aid package is far from complete. I called finaid and spoke with my counselor, and he mentioned that they might need to wait for summer grades if you're taking summer school. Despite this, they went ahead and listed the other grant, so I'm hoping they will finish it entirely before the summer is over.

If they have to wait for summer grades to come in, I wonder if that could hurt your potential aid package? Would it be possible for some funds to run out before they actually process mine completely?

I think this applies to folks who hadn't made satisfactory progress in fall and spring.

I don't think so. I can't see them penalizing you for taking summer school, which is what waiting for grades would do - it's put everyone not in summer school ahead of you.

I have Pell grants and a UNC need-based grant showing up. I wouldn't realistically expect to see final aid packages until ~july?

i called today to ask when i should hear something about my financial aid, and they said it would be mid june/july

but this is my first time applying for aid and i'm in grad school

i don't know what difference that makes. i am naive in the ways of financial aid.

i just hope i can figure it all out by fall

yeah I called earlier this week and I was told not to look at whats posted online, that they would send out the financial aid letter in the next 2 weeks, because what was posted is $6000 short of what I had last year

I understand the hold up for summer session people but Im not taking summer classes. I look backed to previous years and they were all sent out in early June so maybe its nothing abnormal.

good god, i don't think the parents have even DONE my FAFSA yet. WTF?

my mom doesn't want me to have to deal with doing them (since i'd have to get all the tax info from them), but then THEY bitch about me lacking in fin aid.

I guess tomorrow's phone call will be buggin the moms about FAFSA. I think they finally got our old house on the market this week (we moved in Dec. and she's been doing like 80% of the painting, fixing, flooring etc work in the old house), so definitely past time to focus on financial aid.

Has anyone had any luck in the past getting financial aid after turning in your FAFSA late? Just wondering because I didn't get mine in by the priority deadline, so now I am worried that I will not get enough aid. If you did receive aid, was it gift aid (such as grants) or loans?

Officially, the day SSII classes start.

I won't be suprised if they're in your account the business day beforehand.

If your account is still "under review", call them. I called, because it's been almost a month since they got all my verification (and it's not my fault that took so long- I had everything else in early, and I'll be pissed if I miss out on grants because of someone else), and my counselor wasn't in her office, but the secretary/warm body @ front desk sounded rather shocked that my still hadn't been processed.

I just got back from the S&FA office. They don't bother to call you and tell you if something is missing from your forms! They've been giving out aid for 2 weeks and I had no idea that I wasn't being awarded! The good thing is that since my FAFSA was in on time, I will still get my full(+) amount, it's just gonna be late.

And 2nd Summer is being awarded/added this coming Thursday, and refunds shortly thereafter. It will be before the first day of class as always.

Meanwhile, I knew I wasn't going to be able to get my FAFSA done by March 1 because of my parents, so I asked my fin aid counselor, and she told me that if I had my institutional app in by then, I'd be fine, because that's what they look at when considering if you were in by the priority date.

It's one thing to know your fin aid counselor is worthless for getting stuff done. How was I supposed to know she has no problem giving out inaccurate info?

right, but if you have direct deposit, it usually shows up the 1st day of class, instead of waiting for the check to come in the mail. You may still have time to set that up. The official award letter came in the mail yesterday!

this is my first time doing financial aid and I did receive an award letter. Since reading this, I see that the funds won't be sent until the first day of classes. So does that mean that I have to pay for tuition up front or will NC State know that I have $$$ coming? I received scholarships and grants from NC State for tuition and a loan from the college foundation. Are they different in terms of how they are disbursed?

NCSU knows that your money is coming. If they send you a bill, ignore it. All your loans are disbursed at the same time in one lump some.
