I am interested in possibly going into event/wedding planning. I have been searching on the internet and haven't really been able to find much on how to do this, the requirements, etc. Does anyone on here know anyone in the business who might be looking for someone to work for them or who might be able to give me some direction? Any help will be appreciated!

Find a local business/someone who does this and apply for a job under them. This is something where you are going to have to work your way up. Event/wedding planning is all about word of mouth. Rarely to do people look in the yellow pages and pick a company. It's all about recommendations.

Start working at a lower level in the business...get some experience...then hopefully you can work your way up and work for yourself someday. I've got a friend doing this down in Charleston. She just got out of school and is working under a big wedding planner down here...but she only works a couple weekends a month and works in a clothing boutique during the week to bring in money to pay the rent. She's getting some good experience though.

Best to work a marketing position and move up from there. You can begin by doing promotions and brand ambassadoring and then advance in the company and become a team lead, team manager and etc.
This is what I am working my way in to. I began doing promotions with my marketing company and Sunday I'm leaving for training. After that I will attempt to move and become a team manager in another city.

This book seems legit: http://www.fabjob.com/eventplannerjs.asp
