I'm on their listserve, but never had time to do anything with them. I emailed a few people about it last summer and hear anything until the fall, when they did a mass add to their listserv. Just wait and see.

For future reference, don't ride in Durham. For some reason, the people here like to ride down the middle of the fucking road when there is a bike lane AND a sidewalk available and not use hand signals. Because a $600 cycling bike makes you above that. Some of the happen to get an ass full of radiator. Seriously - someone got hit here a while back.Anyways, have fun!!

You can check out the group rides from Spin Cycle and Cycling Spoken here. They have them scheduled several times a week.Or hit me up. I'll go riding with you, though it will have to be after work or on the weekends.

How would I go about getting one of those super old steel bikes?
6/2/2006 9:47:17 AM
^sounds like my road bike. I found it for 5 bucks at a flea market and added a bunch of scavenged parts. Its pretty ugly, but I can hold my own against yuppies on cannondales.

That's awesome. I'm gonna have to start looking at flea markets and yard sales for a road bike then. Cause I sure as hell can afford $600-$2500 for a new one.

^its almost not worth it, unless you enjoy fixing things for fun. I've spent 200 on it total. For a little more than that, you can get something pretty nice used. I had fun fixing my bike up, but most people would probably have trouble scrounging up some of the stuff I got for free.edit: Try the Carrboro recyclery and North Road Cycles for free stuff. I should also warn you that my $5 flea market special was nowhere near rideable when I bought it. I essentially just got it for the frame. I replaced the wheels, tires, brakes, bottom bracket, rear derailleur, handlebars, and all the cables and housing. I also rebuilt a hub on one of the wheels I found. Long story short, be sure you can find most of your parts for free or it will not be worth it.[Edited on June 2, 2006 at 3:06 PM. Reason : .]
