my truck has a gooseneck that the ball can be removed, flipped, and dropped back in place for a flat bed. I had mine installed when I bought the truck (put it in the deal). I think the hitch was $350, as for installation no idea.

they aren't hard to do yourself, basically two kinds of removables, those that have rails on the bed floor, and those that have release pins that come out flush. i definately reccomend the ones with rails, they are easier to remove and put back in, just a latch and two pins, the flush ones are a bitch to line up with the holes and then you have to slide the pins in from underneath every time

mine has a lever under one wheel well that removes the release pin with a nifty lable that says locked / unlocked. You simply flip the lever to unlock and pull the ball out. There is no large metal plate like the picture above, all the structure is under the bed, all that sticks up is the ball and 2 safety chain loops (which are spring loaded and remain untill you pull them up_[Edited on June 1, 2006 at 4:54 PM. Why we're on the subject of tips, I recommend taping an electrical tape line down the center of your toolbox or rear window. Makes hooking up by yourself foolproof.^well, depending on your personal level of fool

Pretty cool, I like how you dont have to cut a huge section of bed out of it.
