I need to stretch the fenders on my maxima, or at least get rid of the inner seam. The rear tires are rubbing on suspension compresion. I plan on just using a hammer as a last resort.Anyone have a bat I can borrow?BTW Rear tires 245/45/17, Front tires 255/40/17

Damn thought I was gonna get to hack up some wheels
6/1/2006 4:31:44 PM
^Yeah, that was my original plan. For todays events:I went to Play it Again, and bought a bat for $6.Took about 25 minutes to roll both rear fenders.I gained about 1 inch of clearance in my wheel well. I didn't use a heat gun, and had no paint cracked while I did this. The rolling came out very well and uniform. Actually, it was stupidly simple and easy. I have no more rubbing.

nice, do you have any before/after pix?
6/1/2006 5:59:37 PM
didn't even bother. It isn't that evident from the outside, but there is a ton more room on the inside of the fender.
6/1/2006 6:16:34 PM
Right on man
6/1/2006 6:16:42 PM
sweet, you get ur huge ass tires on the front yet?
6/1/2006 6:20:07 PM
why even bother putting tires on that big?
6/1/2006 6:24:52 PM
traction?
6/1/2006 6:27:41 PM
Yeah the wide tires are on.255/40/17 front245/45/17 rearThe fronts fit with no problems at all. The rears rubbed because of the drop that I have. All is better now.The wide tires are on one, for handling purposes, and second for launch traction when the turbos go on.
6/1/2006 6:32:00 PM
i hope your wheels are wide enough, if not you are not helping your handling. bigger isnt always better. i doubt even with a turbo you will need tires that big.
6/1/2006 6:48:11 PM
I'm not the idiot you seem to think I am.
6/1/2006 6:52:17 PM
15's would have done the job.get better tires (and suspension), not wider and larger wheels/tires.[Edited on June 2, 2006 at 10:27 AM. Reason : ]

^the 17s were dirt cheap i am guessing since i know what they came off of. They are plenty wide. Good 15s, better tires(not that the ones on there are even bad), and a better suspension would defeat the purpose of his budget track car
6/2/2006 10:55:40 AM
alright. so now we're ready for turbos...*taps foot*
6/2/2006 10:58:56 AM
you cant exactly build a "budget" track car.how much were the 17s? with tires?i got a set of 15X7, 12 lbs rims, and a set of barely used R compound tires. id say for around $500 for the set. now, that not defeating any purpose. ive used that wheel/tire selection on my car at the track with no susp. mods. and its top notch[Edited on June 2, 2006 at 11:05 AM. The Wheels were $75 I think for the set. (used)The 255/40 were $100 for two. (new) The 245/45 were the most expensive at $250 for the two. (new)I'll be the first to admit that my suspension setup isn't the best, but that was done as cheap as I could as well (new shocks and springs). It is too low to be a true high performance setup. As well, they don't make any true high performance systems for my car.I have been through 15s, 16s, and 17s on this car. I like the look of the 17s the best, so that is what I went with. Everyone needs to remember that this car is my 'fun' car. I don't care if it is the fastet, best handleing, best looking, or anything else for that matter. I'm building it for myself.

My new remote oil pump is in the mail right now. I'm still collecting the last few parts, but I am getting closer. It is taking some shopping to find the deals now. I refuse to pay anything near retail for this project when I don't have to.
