What happens if the State of Birth for a parent is incorrect on a marriage license? Is it something that could cause a license to be revoked? Something that can be corrected?
5/29/2006 11:46:07 PM
whose fault is it
5/29/2006 11:55:11 PM
dunno about being corrected but im pretty sure it's not that serious.
5/29/2006 11:55:46 PM
probably not enough to be revoked, or even invalidate the license. call up the register of deeds or whateverbtw: don't you fill the form out yourself, then they make you look over it, then you "sign your name under penalty of perjury" that it is correct? how the fuck did the state get incorrect that wasn't just a clerical error.[Edited on May 30, 2006 at 12:00 AM. After much , , and we decided that we will just re-apply... I mean what's an extra $50 when you are already spending $25,000
5/30/2006 12:26:00 AM
what do you mean "re-apply" i'm pretty sure you can't just go get another one
5/30/2006 12:26:57 AM
We get married this weekend... its not actually on file yet. We've just been to the Deeds office and paid the $50 to get the proper applications and such.
5/30/2006 12:29:56 AM
ahhhhh, good pointcongrats, and I hope this was a learning experience
5/30/2006 12:33:34 AM
i know 25k probably isn't that much to drop on a wedding now, but still, why do you need to spend that much to declare your love to the world?
5/30/2006 1:02:34 AM
how in the hell are you spending 25k on a wedding?
5/30/2006 1:05:14 AM
$500 for invitations$1300 for the chapel$400 for strings trio$200 for chapel decorations$150 for license and fees$350 for transportation$1200 for the reception site$5000 for catering$1600 for reception rentals$400 for cake$600 for the DJ$300 for favors$700 for beer, wine and champagne$900 for the dress$200 for veil$300 for hair/makeup$150 for misc bride accessories$1500 for wedding bands$3000 for photographer$1800 for flowers$200 for reception decorations$1500 for rehearsal dinner$600 for parent and attendant gifts$800 for bridal spa trip$200 for bridal luncheonThat's close to $25,000 right there with rough numbers. Oh, and some people count the honeymoon in wedding costs which is looking to be about another $6000 (assuming we average $200 a day in spending cash while in Napa/SF for the 10 days, which is very easy). This wedding is for just under 100 guests... shit ain't cheap. FYI, the average wedding now costs just a hair under $30,000 according to a recent CNN article I saw.[Edited on May 30, 2006 at 1:32 AM. 5/30/2006 1:30:20 AM
Actually, not only does that invalidate your license, it means that you don't even love her anymore.
5/30/2006 1:34:37 AM
It's really amazing how the value of a dollar seems to go down while planning a wedding. But you (hopefully) only get married once!
5/30/2006 1:44:01 AM
It was over so fast.
5/30/2006 1:44:07 AM
I'm getting married this Saturday so I feel your pain when it comes to wedding expenses. My wedding is not nearly that expensive, but it is certainly costing more than I expected it to. But damn, you're spending enough to put a down payment on a house.Oh, I'm sure you can just call the the reg. of deeds to find out what you need to do.
5/30/2006 1:44:30 AM
5/30/2006 1:58:52 AM
from that list i can tell that if i ever got married, it might cost a tenth of what you are spendingit's gonna be somewhere outside and free (no, i don't care if it is raining) there's gonna be some beerand some hotdogs or somethingwhee
5/30/2006 3:14:20 AM
Yea what you spent on catering is more then I spent on my entire wedding. For the total price you're spending I was suprised she didn't spend more on her dress though. Women usually go crazy over that for something they will never wear again. Congrats though
5/30/2006 6:07:59 AM
how much do chamber musicians cost?cause I know that's something that I want
5/30/2006 6:46:48 AM
I'm gonna ask Opeth to play at my wedding.... now, how to convince the gf that will be romantic....
5/30/2006 7:00:18 AM
$25K? Wow. I think we got in under $1K - and we didn't even elope. Of course the chapel, ceremony, and reception site were free (our church doesn't charge), family served as photographers, my wife used her mom's dress, and we didn't do frivolous things like bridal spa trips, DJs, etc.Saved $700 by not getting alcohol also - everyone in the immediate family is a tea toldler.

getting married is an antiquated and unnecessary custom.just live in sin.especially in NC where divorce is more labor intensive than marriage.

tea contains caffeine, dude!!!!Isn't that a mortal sin?
5/30/2006 10:46:45 AM
Haha, no. But I don't drink tea either so I guess "tea toldler" doesn't really fit either.

Teetotaler is from tee (the letter t, as in total) + total + -er. Teetotalism is the principle or practice of complete abstinence from alcoholic drinks.

5/30/2006 11:09:20 AM

we had about 120 people at my wedding, it wasn't at a free "home church," and it was medievally themed, with appropriate decorations and clothing. came out to be less than $5000 and was beautiful. you've just got to work the connections with people you know, and it gets much cheaper. And what kind of self-respecting chapel charges $1300 for a wedding? Goodness, that's ridiculous.
5/30/2006 4:00:09 PM
we never added up what it cost to get married, but I know it didn't cost anywhere near what you are talking about. You could buy a brand new car (and a nice one at that) for what that much money.
5/30/2006 4:28:48 PM

i'm in the middle of helping plan my wedding. we had the budget discussion last week with the fiance's parents and when the father of the bride said he wouldn't spend more then $15k both my fiance and her mom wigged....hahaha. granted we are having over 250 peope at our wedding and reception. i thought it was pretty reasonable though.
5/30/2006 5:23:37 PM
I'm getting married this weekend as well. Our final tab is going to come out very similar to msb2ncsu's tab. We're having 117 people at a wedding on the beach in Wrightsville Beach. I don't think msb's is that out of the ordinary. The average cost of a wedding today in America is $26k.http://money.cnn.com/2005/05/20/pf/weddings/I took a similar route as msb in that I moved home for 6 months to pay off the engagement ring and the costs of the honeymoon. We also have special circumstances where my fiance has a very good job and already has bought a house. I also agree that you can have your wedding much cheaper and it will be just as beautiful/memorable. If we were right out of college, I'm sure we would have opted for something that made better financial sense.

something to be said about getting married later...my sister got married when she was 35, and her husband was also 35...both well established in their individual careers. They had a very nice wedding, went all out. They got married New Years Day 2004. Christmas Eve 2005 she had a baby girl. When they were rehearsing, she started to lead him up the few steps without even thinking.
