yea, i was too lazy to put in "omg im giving you a preface" images. I'll probably update the video to put in screenshots of the required tools, software prep, etc.

And yea, I just narrated over the sped up action. But the whole point was you really shouldn't *need* the narration.

It's actually really damn easy to open up once you know the right spots and methods. After recording the video I did a second run and it literally took 5 and a half minutes to get it open and connected.

BTW, if anyone want's this done, I'll do the whole deal for 30 bucks. If you don't have Torx bits (15-20 bucks), a good metal shim and tweezers (4-5 bucks) and a jewelers screwdriver set (another 5-10 bucks), it can be pretty expensive, not to mention time consuming.

Including breaking open the pc, rigging everything up right, and the whole flash process it took damn near an hour.

lets you backup your games and run them. After seeing the famous disc death act by simply moving the console, you better believe ive got two backups of PGR3.

And yes I sound like an absolute country bumpkin in person, really pisses me off sometime, except when I'm in foreign countries and the northwest where the ladies love it

by "back up the games" do you mean burning an additional copy, or ripping them to the hard drive like most xbox mods? i didn't watch the video, so forgive me if it's in there

i didnt get into the actual ripping/copying of the games, because technically that violates copyright law.

But no, this only enables the play of dvd backups, no play off the HDD. In fact the only reason it works at all is because the xbox never sees that it's not the real deal game.

are there good apps for backing up 360 games or is it just a standard dvd copy with most burning programs?

i know that i had like 10 different xbox apps that all did similar stuff, but that is a MUCH larger mod community since most people aren't messing with the 360s yet (or haven't figured out the really good stuff one)

^^So far, no. There are "rumors" that they will be able to detect it down the road, but I don't see how since several different drives (and numerous different firmware checksums) exist.

Plus, there are already dual-switch BIOS solutions coming out, but nothing "commercial" yet.

As for the games, there's two ways to do it.

1) You use the X360 dvd drive to rip the games and get the SS (Security Sector) off the disc to properly reburn it.

2) You can download the SS file from various spots on the net, and integrate it into an iso you create with a standard dvd drive.

Either way you have to use Dual Layer discs (which amazingly went on sale at newegg today), and it's a fairly time intensive process still, although apparently there is a new on-the-fly style utility out there. Check out xbox-scene.com, they will keep you up to date on the whole deal.

---------

Btw I pulled the video from youtube. I'll repost it with good quality next week, shit doesn't represent my standards for quality. I watched it just a little bit ago and was like jesus christ what was I thinking. Guess that's what I get for doing shit instead of sleeping.

This will be worth the effort only once you're able to run 3rd party software and backup games to a hard drive, until then the effort and extra hardware required outweighs the benefits

Quote :
"Xtreme firmware for Hitachi 47D Xbox 360

Here it is, the long awaited World first Xbox 360 backup firmware modification to boot game backups on Hitachi!
backup

Technical details
------------------------

Reads Xbox 360 security sector from PSN 04FB1F (Layer 0)
Reads Xbox 1 security sector from PSN 605FF (Layer 0)
Flashes sector 9003e000 (Master Checksum)
Flashes sector 90035000 (Security Sector Read)
Flashes sector 9001c000 (Drive Response Table Decrypt)
Flashes sector 90003000 (Custom Code)
Flashes sector 90027000 (Challenge Response)

Flashing your drive
---------------------------
xtreme.bat automatically makes a backup of your dvd drive firmware called orig.bin.
Plug SATA cable from DVD drive to PC. Power cable drive still connected to Xbox 360
Ensure Hitachi drive is in mode b either by two wire trick or slax linux boot cd
Go to Windows
Run xtreme.bat batch file from a dos prompt specifing drive letter eg "xtreme.bat g"
All done!
Run restore.bat to revert to original firmware eg "restore.bat g"

Thanks to everyone at Xboxhacker.net for all their discussions. Thanks go to Seventhson for flashsec and memdump and Loser for firmcrypt, without these tools this would not be possible.

Hitachi drive seems to be less tolerant of dual layer media. Try a few times to boot a backup.
Firmware for 46 version will be released soon but I cannot test it. Code is offset slightly throughout the firmware."

I'm not. I'm a fan of not fucking up my 60 dollar game. And a fan of homebrew in the future.

MY PGR3 disc is already slightly scratched up, somehow I tend to wreck cd/dvd's.

This is the single most important reason for being able to make backups. I'm fine with DRM, so long as once I purchase the "rights" to a peice of content, that I always have access to that content wherever I want it whenever I want it. That means if my disc is scratched and I can't play it then the agreement made between me and the owner of that content at the time of purchase was flawed if I can't replace the content for free or extremely minimal cost (essentially the cost of the transport of the media)

The DRM argument should be structured soley in this way, and the damn content owners fail to acknowledge this.

^ Interesting point...can you link to the EULA or the enumeration of your rights when you buy an XBOX 360 game disc?

I tried to search but couldn't find.

you can get 3 cadillacs for free and a new aston martin...you can buy damn 20 of them if you want just to get more garages because they cost 0 credits...although once you get a certain number of cars of any type they stop you from buying since the garages are all full

If you broke the 100000 mark, give yourself a pat on the back for that accomplishment, because I know people that cannot break 25000, and they even own the game.
