Little video I put together.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6mi_vhbAiA
5/26/2006 8:34:30 AM
damn you move fast.
5/26/2006 9:19:20 AM
i dont want to fuck with my 360
5/26/2006 9:24:23 AM
i dont have an xbox, but was curious to seeso you just flashed the dvd reader's bios?i didnt have sound here at work
5/26/2006 9:29:38 AM
nice video, it looks like that thing is a bitch to take apartI dont have sound at work, Noen did you narrate over the fast video, or is your voice all fast like a chipmunk?
5/26/2006 9:32:49 AM
It's ok that you guys don't have sound. He needs better dubbing equipment
5/26/2006 9:46:11 AM
am I the only one that doesnt have an image at the beginning?
5/26/2006 10:03:14 AM
i didn't either. i had to turn the volume way up too.[Edited on May 26, 2006 at 10:09 AM. Reason : otherwise, gg noen]
5/26/2006 10:09:47 AM
change the topic to :How to take apart your Xbox real fast[Edited on May 26, 2006 at 11:13 AM. Reason : yeah my screen was black too for a bit but I think its on purpose]
5/26/2006 11:12:26 AM
yea, i was too lazy to put in "omg im giving you a preface" images. I'll probably update the video to put in screenshots of the required tools, software prep, etc.And yea, I just narrated over the sped up action. But the whole point was you really shouldn't *need* the narration. It's actually really damn easy to open up once you know the right spots and methods. After recording the video I did a second run and it literally took 5 and a half minutes to get it open and connected.BTW, if anyone want's this done, I'll do the whole deal for 30 bucks. If you don't have Torx bits (15-20 bucks), a good metal shim and tweezers (4-5 bucks) and a jewelers screwdriver set (another 5-10 bucks), it can be pretty expensive, not to mention time consuming.Including breaking open the pc, rigging everything up right, and the whole flash process it took damn near an hour.
5/26/2006 11:31:58 AM
what the fuck does this do
5/26/2006 11:44:44 AM
lets you backup your games and run them. After seeing the famous disc death act by simply moving the console, you better believe ive got two backups of PGR3.
5/26/2006 11:50:36 AM
yeah you need to re-record your voiceyou sound really unconfident"um, i believe #7" haha
5/26/2006 1:03:50 PM
You have more of a southern accent than you look like you would have.
5/26/2006 1:18:36 PM
that looks like a major pain in the ass. i took apart the old one to replace a controller port and that was enough for me. guess im just lazy.
5/26/2006 1:31:26 PM
^^^ and ^^ Yea, I almost just got my roomate to do it. It was recorded at 4am, I was (and still am) tired as shit, and just wanted to wrap it up and put it live. And yes I sound like an absolute country bumpkin in person, really pisses me off sometime, except when I'm in foreign countries and the northwest where the ladies love it
5/26/2006 2:09:03 PM
by "back up the games" do you mean burning an additional copy, or ripping them to the hard drive like most xbox mods? i didn't watch the video, so forgive me if it's in there
5/26/2006 2:10:17 PM
i didnt get into the actual ripping/copying of the games, because technically that violates copyright law.But no, this only enables the play of dvd backups, no play off the HDD. In fact the only reason it works at all is because the xbox never sees that it's not the real deal game.
5/26/2006 2:13:35 PM
are there good apps for backing up 360 games or is it just a standard dvd copy with most burning programs?i know that i had like 10 different xbox apps that all did similar stuff, but that is a MUCH larger mod community since most people aren't messing with the 360s yet (or haven't figured out the really good stuff one)
5/26/2006 2:16:01 PM
any idea if microsoft has any way to detect this through xbox live?
5/26/2006 2:17:13 PM
^i'm pretty sure they could detect it because they could on xbox...but i'm not certain, Noen will know
5/26/2006 2:18:20 PM
^^So far, no. There are "rumors" that they will be able to detect it down the road, but I don't see how since several different drives (and numerous different firmware checksums) exist. Plus, there are already dual-switch BIOS solutions coming out, but nothing "commercial" yet.As for the games, there's two ways to do it.1) You use the X360 dvd drive to rip the games and get the SS (Security Sector) off the disc to properly reburn it.2) You can download the SS file from various spots on the net, and integrate it into an iso you create with a standard dvd drive.Either way you have to use Dual Layer discs (which amazingly went on sale at newegg today), and it's a fairly time intensive process still, although apparently there is a new on-the-fly style utility out there. Check out xbox-scene.com, they will keep you up to date on the whole deal.---------Btw I pulled the video from youtube. I'll repost it with good quality next week, shit doesn't represent my standards for quality. I watched it just a little bit ago and was like jesus christ what was I thinking. Guess that's what I get for doing shit instead of sleeping.[Edited on May 26, 2006 at 2:42 PM. Reason : . ]
5/26/2006 2:41:51 PM
This will be worth the effort only once you're able to run 3rd party software and backup games to a hard drive, until then the effort and extra hardware required outweighs the benefits[Edited on May 26, 2006 at 3:44 PM. Reason : ]
5/26/2006 3:44:18 PM
there is no extra hardware.and the games and homebrew aint happenin anytime soon (unless the devil360.com rumors turn out to be a modchip)
5/26/2006 3:53:43 PM
about what month in 2007 do you expect this to be possible with the ps3?
5/26/2006 4:14:33 PM

Yep.And it still works on Live after the recent round of several updates.
6/15/2006 2:10:35 PM
I thought Noen was not a supporter of piracy.
6/15/2006 2:13:56 PM
I'm not. I'm a fan of not fucking up my 60 dollar game. And a fan of homebrew in the future.MY PGR3 disc is already slightly scratched up, somehow I tend to wreck cd/dvd's.
6/15/2006 2:45:39 PM
This is the single most important reason for being able to make backups. I'm fine with DRM, so long as once I purchase the "rights" to a peice of content, that I always have access to that content wherever I want it whenever I want it. That means if my disc is scratched and I can't play it then the agreement made between me and the owner of that content at the time of purchase was flawed if I can't replace the content for free or extremely minimal cost (essentially the cost of the transport of the media)The DRM argument should be structured soley in this way, and the damn content owners fail to acknowledge this.[Edited on June 15, 2006 at 3:01 PM. 6/15/2006 2:59:56 PM
^ Interesting point...can you link to the EULA or the enumeration of your rights when you buy an XBOX 360 game disc?I tried to search but couldn't find.
6/15/2006 3:07:56 PM
Neon - did you download the Cadillac Pack for PGR3 yet? I am thinking about re-buying PGR3 just to get this pack.
6/15/2006 3:09:52 PM
Yea I haven't played it though, I pretty much only play geometry wars these days.
6/15/2006 3:30:41 PM
Well, you definitely need to go pick up Hitman or Table Tennis then.
6/15/2006 3:33:43 PM
i suck at geometry wars, wish i could transfer rights to someone else and get my money back cuz im an embarassment to it.
6/15/2006 3:45:08 PM
Have you broke 100000 yet?
6/15/2006 3:49:11 PM
you can get 3 cadillacs for free and a new aston martin...you can buy damn 20 of them if you want just to get more garages because they cost 0 credits...although once you get a certain number of cars of any type they stop you from buying since the garages are all full
6/15/2006 3:53:48 PM
1-800-RULEGIT or send email to piracy@microsoft.com
6/15/2006 4:04:32 PM
yeah i beat 100,000 once all of which was in 1 life, then i died really quick. that was it though.
6/15/2006 4:06:16 PM
If you broke the 100000 mark, give yourself a pat on the back for that accomplishment, because I know people that cannot break 25000, and they even own the game.
6/15/2006 4:08:09 PM
my highest score was like 30k on the demo
6/15/2006 4:09:19 PM
shits tough. i dont know how ppl get as high as they do on the leaderboards or get half those damn acheivements.that said, my xbox seems fine so i feel no need to mod it.

6/15/2006 4:14:32 PM
My highest is about 600k, I'm trying to break the million mark. It's really not that "hard" you just have to concentrate and get the patterns and movements down
6/15/2006 4:28:17 PM
yeah, i get distracted easily though, it is impressive to watch.
6/15/2006 4:29:44 PM
I don't get to play mine much...mostly about 30 mins a week now that I gave my 360 to my sister.
6/15/2006 4:36:09 PM
You are gonna have to get 4millioin without using a bomb, and only using one life to impress me.
