... only taking reservations through sep 12, 2006? I've been checking them once a week, trying to price a flight for october/november, and it always says "only accepting reservations thru sep 12 at this time"

just a guess but maybe because they buy fuel at a fixed cost for a certain period of time and don't want to ruin what little profit margins they are currently experiencing

^^^ not a bad guess. SWA's prices went up $10 about a month ago. the company likes to be competitive and offer low prices.

I'd be more worried if the cutoff date was the 10th.

they said they update their schedules every month or two, and only project them out a couple of months, so they can have prices/schedules guaranteed.

i think the big airlines do yearly schedules....

but the lady I talked to said when they first publish the schedule (for september-october, for example) those will be the "lowest" prices, and they gradually go up as the flight date approaches. But they also will run sales on some fares, and if you buy the flight at the FunSaver prices for $99, then they put it on sale for $50, they'll refund the difference...

good to know.

my mom fucking loves southwest airlines

she said shes never had a delayed flight or nothing like that

but my parents are pretty jewish when it comes to spending money sometimes, so i'm sure that has something to do with it

they don't do assigned seats, so it's like first-come, first-serve

but i can live with that, when it only costs me $99 to fly from RDU to San Diego (one way) to see my little bro. that's non-stop flight too

ACTUALLY THIS IS PROBABLY TRUE...WHEN I INTERVIEWED WITH US AIRWAYS THEY TOLD ME THE ONLY REASON SWA WAS STILL MAKING PROFIT WAS BECAUSE ABOUT 2 OR 3 YEARS AGO THEY SIGNED A HUGE FUEL CONTRACT TO BUY AT THAT CURRENT MARKET RATE FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS OR SO.....THEY MIGHT BE IN THE PROCESS OR RENEGOCIATING THOSE RATES

I read somewhere a couple months ago that Southwest started buying loads and loads of fuel options in the late 90's - back when gas was cheap[er].

They have some of the ugliest flight attendants I've ever seen.

I even saw a bald chick the other day. Nasty

Partially true. It's called hedging to protect the company from high prices. Southwest made a critical mistake, they hedge against the price of the barrel (barrel of unrefined petro) but they did not hedge against the crack spread, that is the refining cost for refining petro into jet fuel.

they fly the same schedule for 2-3 months at a time and adjust/add/delete flights where necessary. Keep checking and they will have the new schedules available.
