does it still suck? I'd like to upgrade to it if the driver support is finally up to par. haven't really played with it for a year or so

it totally depends on your hardware. I run some servers here at work with full Windows x64 driver support.Your best bet would be to install Windows x64 and see how it goes for you. At least check websites to see if all your drivers for shit like video cards are available for x64.

most hardware is supported in x64, but printers and some hardware you don't see everyday(TV tuners, fingerprint readers, etc.) may not be supported.I have x64 right now, and can't use my Kodak photo printer, or my laser printer. But my HDTV tuner works great.

the thing I'm worried most about is that my board has 2 nic's and it was a big enough pain to get the drivers functioning in winxp (I had to use drivers for another board with a similar chipset but different model nic).

just wait for vista. Microsoft just released XP 64bit as a WinME'ish stopgap.

yea it sucks. i had it, had a lot of problems with it. not just driver support but some software doesnt work with it. im back with 32 bit now.
5/23/2006 9:28:42 PM
same here - back to 32bit

pussies.everything works perfectly for me in x64.

i missed my tv tunerand my all-in-one printer/scanner other than that it was fine, if you can call that fine.
5/24/2006 11:16:37 AM
what tv tuner do you have.. many are supported in x64 now
5/24/2006 11:19:26 AM

http://www.planetamd64.com/lofiversion/index.php/t210.htmlsome information on using bt878 64-bit drivers on tuners using that specific chip.
5/24/2006 11:41:18 AM
i was looking at that, but i didn't spend too much time after it didn't initially work. i don't really give a rat's ass about 64bit computing right now
5/24/2006 11:44:32 AM
is there any flash support for x64 yet? i know there isnt any from macromedia but i didn't know there was maybe another program or something
5/24/2006 9:38:04 PM
I got a free copy of windows XP prof 64 bit. I've yet to run into a single program that it has problems running. The only program that had any problems at all was Oblivion and then only when I had exited the game. I run just about any major web development tool you can think of. (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, etc etc.

do you run 64 bit apps?im still looking for a 64-bit flash plugin for my firefox browser
5/25/2006 2:36:29 AM
^ you're not going to find one until Mozilla releases a 64-bit version of firefox. Right now the 64-bit version is a third-party hack
5/25/2006 11:54:02 AM
this is a 3rd party hack?http://www.mozilla-x86-64.com/i wasn't aware of that. looks like it's from mozilla to me...
5/26/2006 3:31:26 PM
i used deerpark from mozilla. i thought that was the 64 bit version of firefox.
5/26/2006 4:13:35 PM
^ Deerpark is the codename for version 1.5^^ and that doesn't look like a Mozilla website. you'd also see copyright information and what not if it were mozilla.. not to mention, they'd probably host it on mozilla.org and not a name like mozilla-x86-64
