How does one go about doing this without her completely knowing? I know I shouldn't get a size that's way too small cause it will be impossible to resize, but what is the best way to get a rough estimate? What is a ring size anyways?
5/22/2006 10:43:08 PM
steal one of her rings.
5/22/2006 10:45:31 PM
one day when your walking through the mall with her go into claires like some kinda of a joke, and pic out some crazy shit for her to try on, just have fun with her, she wont have a clue, and just ask her were your goin through the ringsor atleast its a thought
5/22/2006 10:48:28 PM
Take photos of her hand in front of a ruler, and calculate the diameter from there, and then approximate the circumference. You would have to place the ruler sneakily of course... Or, you could use an object of known size (like a piece of paper).[Edited on May 22, 2006 at 10:51 PM. Reason : ]
5/22/2006 10:50:45 PM
what does she weigh? and how tall is she?
5/22/2006 10:52:03 PM
Get a girlfriend of hers to help you out. One of her friends could have a ring with a known size and go to her and say "Hey, look at my new ring"...she tries it on, if it's too big, you know to go down a size.
5/22/2006 10:53:01 PM
^ Best idea. Even going by a mall jewelry store just kidding around will send up red flags to a woman.
5/22/2006 10:55:19 PM
just buy the ring and give it to her. if it doesn't fit just go get it sized. not a big deal
5/22/2006 10:57:14 PM

5/22/2006 11:07:49 PM
There are hints at the bottom on how to find it without her knowing...
5/22/2006 11:10:36 PM
get a friend to borrow a ring for an outfit. bingo
5/22/2006 11:13:56 PM
i plan on asking her sister
5/22/2006 11:28:11 PM
Dont do it!!It's a TRAP!!1
5/22/2006 11:32:46 PM
her weight and height might help get an avg and you can go from theremost (normal) girls dont know their ring finger ring sizei know the fingers i wear rings on are all different sizes. no ring i have fits two fingers
5/22/2006 11:34:26 PM

When she's not looking/not home slide one of her rings on your finger. Take notice of about where it hits on your finger. Have the salesperson at the jewelry store slide the sizing ring until you find the ring that hits in the same place on the same finger as her ring did.
5/22/2006 11:58:31 PM
Buy her a bowling ball. They'll have to measure her fingers for the holes. That's what my dad did.
5/23/2006 12:05:14 AM
Measure it while she's asleep.
5/23/2006 12:15:30 AM
you can do thatbut when she asks how you got her size then you have to pretend you did one of the things any of the girls in this thread have suggestedotherwise, you're weird and creepy and fiance-less
5/23/2006 12:21:28 AM
Buy a pinky ring.Show it to her. She'll try each finger till she finds one that it fits.If it fits her ring finger you're done.If it fits her middle finger just go a size down.If it fits her pinky finger run away because she has big manly hands.andbest of allyou get a pinky ring ftw.
5/23/2006 12:25:22 AM
either:
5/23/2006 12:26:25 AM
thanks for the help everyone, I think she knows something is up but she doesn't know when it will be (three weeks).
5/23/2006 1:09:28 AM
good luck!
5/23/2006 1:21:35 AM
Around Christmas time ... I asked her for the size of absolutely everything she wore. She knew she was getting some form of jewerly ... just not sure what.
5/23/2006 6:19:13 AM
be careful though. the hand she writes with will likely be about a 1/2 size bigger than her non dominant hand... for example, my ring finger on my right hand is a 7, but my wedding band is a 6.5. so, if you get a class ring from her right hand or something, make sure to go down a half size of so if that is her dominant hand. good luck!~skip~
5/23/2006 7:56:54 AM
heres what i did:if you go to bluenile.com, you can get a "ringsizer"...its nothing more then a piece of plastic that you can adjust and figure out the correct size ring to get. i then took one of her rings that she wears, and i adjusted the ringsizer to be the same. worked like a charm.
5/23/2006 8:03:14 AM
^ does that mean what i think it means!!!
5/23/2006 8:51:36 AM
yup
5/23/2006 8:57:18 AM
ask her parents
5/23/2006 9:05:19 AM
^For their blessing, not their permission.
5/23/2006 9:18:46 AM
I need to find land a decent woman before I worry about all of this...[Edited on May 23, 2006 at 9:24 AM. Reason : i know a few... so find is the wrong word]
5/23/2006 9:20:07 AM
they still make those?
5/23/2006 9:26:01 AM
^ Yes, but they are very expensive. There's a premium attached to them.
5/23/2006 9:36:39 AM
I got one I can sell you
5/23/2006 9:38:33 AM

5/23/2006 9:38:35 AM

5/23/2006 9:44:09 AM
cut her finger off while she's asleep and then take it to a jeweler. maybe put it in a cooler.
5/23/2006 9:48:20 AM
Playdoh cast. I'll let you figure out the rest of the details.
5/24/2006 5:31:09 PM
just ask her mom.... they know that sorta stuff (unless of course, she doesn't like you)
5/24/2006 11:40:57 PM
borrow one of her's...take it to the jewlers
5/25/2006 12:12:04 AM
Asking her mom would typically be a horrible idea.If her mom DIDN'T know you were considering getting engaged, she'd start acting weird to her daughter if she found out by you asking her to get the ring size. Somehow or another, the daughter would catch the riff...don't go this route
5/25/2006 12:15:13 AM
Playdoh, do the playdoh.Or if you don't have playdoh, use a slightly melted chocolate bar. Freeze...Profit
5/25/2006 12:26:24 AM
When she isn't looking, take one of her rings and put it on your pinky, or finger (where ever you can get a snug fit without going over your knuckle)...... draw a line with a pen on your finger.... check where the ring meets the ink lineGo to a jeweler... ask them to size where the line is on your finger. That way you only 'borrow' her ring for about 2 minutes and she doesn't notice it being missing. MAKE SURE it is a ring she wears on her left hand... if not, the size will be smaller by a half size for a right handed person - or 1/2 size larger for a left handed personYou can always present it, then size it after the fact so you don't ruin a surprise over trying to make sure it fits up front.... But if you would like to *try* to get it close, this is one of the more accurate ways to do it. The Height/Weight proportions are rarely right as predictions........ No one would ever guess that my finger size is 3.75, and I work in the industry where guys try to tell me "her hand is your size".... I've only had 3 customers in 10 years with a finger as small as mine.
5/25/2006 10:37:15 AM
kinda off topic - but i recommend going to QTPie for your purchase - the most helpful person in the jewelry businessi think you will find out that most of the people behind the counters aren't as friendly as you would hope and will play a lot of "let's see what i can put you in today" games that mimick car salesmen - not true with her
5/25/2006 10:41:06 AM
^^ I know this is off-topic, but my ring finger is a 3 and girls are always surprised. I think it's because my fingers are short, so they look bigger around? On topic, steal one of her rings and take it to the jeweler. Or, you can do what my Dad does and go to the jeweler, pick out the ring, and tell them you don't care what size, you'll size it after the surprise. Then, you can watch your girl's eyes light up when she sees the ring and then watch her face fall as she tries it on and it falls off and she can't even wear it until you take it back to the jeweler.
