Crack the screen or knock the iPod against the corner of a table until it stops working. It must be the corner, you need a small dent about 1/8 - 1/4 inch deep in the back.[Edited on May 21, 2006 at 5:31 PM. Reason : dsaf]

5/21/2006 11:39:48 PM
yeah the denting will definately work...i did it to mine and they replaced it with a new one right away

i think i'll try the denting...i really thought it wasnt covered by the warrantylike damage done to it by the owner, i'd like to know if anyone else has has success

i don't understand why people are having problems (in this thread) with trying to get a fresh ipod off by exploiting the warranty
5/22/2006 12:21:34 AM
explain?i dont want to end up with a broken ipod thats why im so cautious i guess(being told by the people when you call the customer service number that user caused damage isn't covered also adds to hesitation)

^^ unethical maybe?http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/hardware.htmlThis warranty does not apply: ...(b) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, flood, fire, earthquake or other external causes; ...

prop open, find something electrical/solder point and cut/desolder.probably wont work anymore and it will look fine.

i don't know enough about ipod warranties to know if this would work, but couldn't you just get it to start playing and shake the crap out of it to corrupt the drive while it's engaged? you wouldn't have any signs of physical damage (such as scratches and dents caused by dropping), but you'd have a busted ipod...right? or perhaps you could get it working, put it in a pillow case, and swing it around (i don't know what the force rating is on those 1.8" drives, but eh)
