Doesn't look like I can download Windows Movie Maker and run it successfully on Windows 2000... unless somebody knows better.I know the Adobe stuff is sweet but also expensive, I'm not getting into any serious stuff yet. Is there any decent + FREE (non-trial) video editing software for basic video/audio effects and titles. And one more for the road: Is there any free software available to students? I would even upgrade to XP so I could just use WMM.

WMM wont run on Win2k. I tried it back in the day with no luck. And it's definitely not officially supported. I don't think are runtime patches for it either. You'd be better off just upgrading to XP anyway.
