Just to warn you - Barker is very disorganized (get a different story every time you call) and extremely slow and stingy on repairs. As in, takes three months to fix the A/C (it was out June-September), and eight weeks to fix the broken front door. The property we lived at was fantastic - but we couldn't cope with Barker any longer.

another is http://www.rhynerentals.com their stuff can be a bit expensive sometimes... but every now and then you'll come across a good deal like we did. They are really nice and easy to work with, and repairs are usually same day. (our dishwasher went nuts the first time we used it, and they were there in 30min to fix it, and we had a new one the next day).

I rented from Rhyne for a few years. At first it was great, but the last year their maintenance and repairs were very dissapointing.

In all fairness to Rhyne, I think the homeowner was demanding that they use his nephews maintenance business or some bullshit, so I think it may have been partially out of their control.

Keep in mind that you can negotiate on price though. My last rental was listed at $875. We wanted to pay $825, so we offered $775 and they actually accepted our offer with no negotiations. Not bad for a 3 BR ranch inside the beltline.

Barker sucks, I second that. They raped me for $600 my sophomore year.

There is a very nice town house for rent for 850 per month in a nice little neighborhood off of Carolina Ave in between Hillsborough and Western, just off of Powell.

do NOT rent from barker
they don't know what they're doing
they're disorganized
they're not helpful if you have a problem
and i've heard several stories of them trying to rip people off (we had to get a lawyer to deal with issues with them trying to charge us for the electric bill BEFORE we moved in)

i rent from clark properties now and i have had no problems with them
