This stray/throw-out came up the other day to my parent's house, and they can't keep her. She's been abused before-you can tell by how shy she can be. She don't get on the furniture, lays on her blanket when she's inside, is friendly to cats and dogs, likes to be petted, and seems to be an all-around sweet dog just looking to be loved by someone. I don't see how anyone could abuse her because she's so great. She's got HUGE ears! We think she's a Beagle/Bassett mix, but we're not positive. We know NOTHING about her history or exactly how old she is. We think she's had a litter of pups before. It was hard to get her in the house the other day when the hail storm came up, but once she came in and found a blanket to cuddle up with-she was fine. She comes in now with little trouble. We have a kitten running around here, and she has not even bothered to chase or mess with her at all. I think if someone can love her and get her over her "bad memories" then you would be the perfect owner!! Please help her, we love her, but can't keep her-and I'd feel awful taking her to the pound or animal control getting her. (I'm uploading some pics right now, so it will be a few minutes on that.)

That's extremely sad. My family used to adopt abused dogs. Honestly, of all the animals we've ever had, unfortunately those dogs were the best pets for us kids.Serious question for you though. Does the animal have any food aggression. Unfortunately, sometimes that's a side effect, which can make it a bit hard to find a family. Let me know.

No, no food aggression at all! I was surprised-we just let her lick the pan we cooked dinner in tonight with the other dogs, and she was just fine (lined with tin-foil of course). [One of the dogs we have now was a throw-out and she was abused too (our's is small though) she was a little aggressive, but she knew our other big dog could eat her in one bite! So, she was only aggressive once in a while with the cats.]Here she is!:

bttt for the doggy.Any age guesses? Have you taken her to the vet? If you have trouble placing her I could talk to the rescue I volunteer with and see if they'd help.[Edited on May 21, 2006 at 2:38 AM. Reason : ]

^^FREE to a good home! ^I really can't guess on dogs once they're past 6 months unless I've owned them. I'm sorry. I'm guessing she's had at least one litter of pups. She's not spayed. I don't know of any other non-neutered dogs in the neighborhood that she could have gotten hooked up with, but I don't know where she's from either. I haven't taken her to the vet, and now I'm in Raleigh, so she's at home with my parents. If someone does not take her this week, I will definitely get up with you about the rescue you volunteer with. Thanks for that!

Try Triangle Beagle Rescue (tribeagles.org). They may be able to help.

Honestly...aside from her legs being a little shorts and the leg speckles...she almost looks totally Beagle. The face and ears and tail especially.

Don't take her to the pound! I really shouldn't get a dog right now, but let me know if nobody else is interested. I'll have to check with my new living situation right now too. She's SO cute!

Well, guys. I'm sorry about this-but maybe she wasn't a stray after all. She's not been around all weekend (I was on a fishing trip, so I didn't know this) but my Mom said that she hasn't seen her all weekend. So, hopefully she either went home or one of the kids in the neighborhood talked their parents into keeping her. I don't know, but she's not dead-I do know that! Thank you all though for your help-and if she shows up again-I will be back on here! (I do live in a good neighborhood though, so if a kid did get her, she's in good hands.)
