i am moving to DC june 1st. i'll be working on the NIH campus in Bethesda, so i'l like to live somewhere in that area, at least near the metro red line. i've already gone through craigslist and the washington post. what other websites are there for apartment listings? thanks very much, oh wise TWW.

Check out this newspaper too:http://www.gazette.net/montgomerycty/there's always:rent.nethttp://www.apartments.com/If you want to live on the red line, look at Rockville and Gaithersburg in MD, as well as Bethesda and in DC.

Bethesda can get expensive. Get an apartment in PG county and commute to work via car(and carry a gat with you)... or up north in Rockville/G-Burg to commute via metro. What institute in the NIH are you going to work in?... <-NINDS a few years ago...
5/16/2006 7:17:44 PM
i guess i'm not really in an institute - i'll be working in the Clinical Center, building 10 .. the one with the patient hospital.for those of you familiar with the area - the places i'm finding look like 1400-1500 (utils included) for a 2-bedroom (my gf and i are moving up there together -she's going nonprofit)does this sound like a (relatively) reasonable rent to you for a place right near the metro and stores and city-like stuff?[Edited on May 16, 2006 at 8:24 PM. that not bad depending on the shape the place is inis this a townhome or apt or condo?rent can get to 2400+ for a one bedroom in DCoh and what is the cost for parking at said place...factor that in too

There really isn't much of a reason to live in DC(Georgetown/Dupont) if you're going to be working in Bethesda. The farther north/east you go of Bethesda the cheaper it gets.
5/16/2006 9:14:15 PM
Yeah, just keep going out the red line and ride in every day. You can always ride it at night to do stuff downtown too.Gaithersburg and Rockville are cheaper options. If you don't mind a little drive to the metro station, you can keep going out to Germantown.

my sis just moved to DC (like 2 days ago), she's paying 1100 for a one bedroom (recently renovated), its near the metro and all, if you want the name i can get it from her

good lord, freakin EVERYBODY is moving to dc.
5/16/2006 10:31:08 PM
Yep, I just started a job in dc today. I'm staying in a friends extra room in clarendon until I find my own place. Its hard to spend less than 1000/mo for 1 br's is what I'm discovering.
5/16/2006 11:11:44 PM
shit, im moving up to bethesda soon too to work at the NIH, and will probably be working in building 10 as well, what group are you working with?

Check out the Avalon communities in Bethesda. They are all really nice and from my experience they carry GREAT specials. The one in Arlington that I looked at was almost $300 less a month than the list price on their website. And yeah, keep checking CL.

^Lived there for a year. It's nice and they allow pets. There is a huge "dog park" in the back where you can let your dog run.But who is trying to find a place now? Omar?
1/12/2007 11:53:49 AM
Omar was probably being a homothug (no noreaga) and someone made a thread like "looking for apartment in dc" the other day and so he probably pm'd them and is like THERE IS ALREADY A THREAD!!!! but it was a year old so he bttt'd it and locked their relevant, current threadi mean if i had to wager that's probably what happened

check out McLean, Falls Church, and even Annandale, as they're just a few exits on 495 from Bethesda, on the VA side. Should be much cheaper, possibly even more than Bethesda itself.and if that falls through, there's always Lanham.

Can anyone comment about the Rockville area off of 270? It looks very nice, clean, and safe.I recently moved to DC to start a job. I work in SE DC next to the Navy Yard, and it was highly recommended to me not to live in the area. I agree with them, for I'm always approached by druggies and bums for some money almost every time I get off the subway. That's not exactly the kind of area I would want to live in.Although Rockville is on the opposite side of DC from where I work and north of the Beltway, I found a great apartment right next to a Metro Station on the red line and I can ride the subway all the way in to work (although I have to switch to the green line for about 3 stops). It will be better than fighting the rush hour traffic and paying DC prices for living.
1/17/2007 9:02:12 PM
if you were driving id say dont do it because 270 can be awfulbut as long as you dont mind the red line commute (i used to do friendship heights to cap south, it was special)go for itwhere in navy yard are you working? For the time being while I look for a place to live, I am staying in Savage, MD with a cousin of mine. I tried driving in one day, and it took me forever, so I now commute via MARC to Union Station, and then hop on the Metro. I'd rather have a 30-45 minute commute sitting on a subway car reading a newspaper or listening to music than a 30-45 minute commute sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the highway (although even without traffic it would probably be longer than 45 minutes to get to SE DC from Rockville).[Edited on January 17, 2007 at 9:48 PM. plus in MD you're like 30 mins to an hour further from NC, versus the city or NoVaif thats a factor
