My hamster escaped out of his cage last night.

Does anyone have any ideas how to recapture him?

Lay on the floor with your butt checks open, he'll return home soon enough.

Purchase another hamster and threaten to hang him/her in a hamster size noose. Give an exact time when the lynching will commence and delay just a few seconds to see if your missing hamster appears to save his friend, through a well aimed bow & arrow shot. If he does not show however, then you do have to follow through with the hanging...

Whenever one of my hamsters would get out, I would stack some books making steps next to an open container like an aquarium. I would trail food up the steps of the books and make a pile of food in the aquarium. Without fail, the hamster would go for the food, climb the books, and tumble into the aquarium. I caught every one of my hamsters within 2 days.

that or something similar usually works

just set something up that he can get into but can't get out of and lead him into it with food. leave it somewhere low traffic and kinda quiet and check it every few hours.

my hamster was in the kitchen pantry or behind the washing machine, without fail, every time.

my hamster used to escape a lot, i'd just turn out the lights and get on the floor with a flashlight. eventually i'd see a pair of eyes looking back at me (usually from under my bed). then i would just go pick her up. after a while she started escaping every night but always managed to get back in her cage by morning. she was pretty smart for a hamster.

Haha...good suggestions.

I tried getting my weiner dog to earn her keep and hunt him down...no avail. I should have gotten a cat.

Ok, I just had this crazy idea inspired by the xmen! Place feed around the room with an extraordinarily heavy iron content for a few days, then, fashion a giant electromagnet in the center of the room, and suck the fucker out, with the rest of the house!

I agree with the ramp to the aquarium or a bucket...just make sure the landing spot will be safe. Leave a food trail and he'll be there in the morning...rig water in the bucket/aquarium too.

^doesn't kill hamsters though.

whenever my gerbils would get out, i would leave a couple piles of food around the room and wait for them to get hungry. just close the door until they think they own the place, then when you come in to catch them they might not run away as fast, or will at least have to run from out in the open so you can see where they go. hamsters are slower than gerbils, too, so it shouldn't be too hard i guess.

the few times my snakes would get out, i'd lay a line of cornstarch across the doorways so i could tell where they went...doesn't really help you directly, but i'll let you borrow one of my snakes and then we can catch him when he's done catching your hamster

back in the day, one of my old roommates had a hamster. One of the funniest things someone did was put the hamster in the bathroom sink, put the stopper in the drain, and then turn on the faucet. It was like a timed deathtrap, and especially funny b/c the hamster would be struggling to climb up the sink as fast as it could, but it had issues b/c the sink was slippery, so it would end up running in place.*

Another time, during a party, someone fed the hamster a spoonfull of Jack Daniels. The hamster went nuts and started hanging off the bars in its cage.

*Don't worry, no harm actually came to the hamster (unless you count getting it plastered).

just a word of caution

when i was younger, i had a hamster and we kept him in the laundry room. one time he escaped and we couldn't find him until my mom turned on the drying machine

there was a pop sound, followed by a grinding motor sound

the hamster crawled into the exhaust pipe of the machine

supposedly you are supposed to section off each room (block all the doorways) and leave piles of food in each room; the room where the food disappears is the room with the hamster. Narrow it down from there.

It's also a good way to attract rats and ants.

Yeah! Well, I finally got good and mad and tore the entire house apart with no avail.

Then my boyfriend decided to go in my kitchen and on a whim opened up the broiler door.

Low and behold there was Lazy Bitch (My hamster). He had a stockpile of dogfood he had apparently taken out of my dog's bowl and 4 dryer sheets. I'm almost suprised I didn't find a campfire going.

Thanks for all your help

Just put sunflower seeds all over the middle of the floor then sit in a chair & wait until you see him venture out looking for them.

You should do this at night because thats when he will be up.
