So, this has happened to me twice... in Cary.

First time, it's this scrappy looking guy in his 40's in a little civic hatchback. He drives up to me at the Kangaroo off of Harrison and asks if I could lend him a few bucks for gas because he forgot his wallet after he just dropped off his son at NC State, and he got lost driving around trying to find I-40, and trying to get back to Greensboro. He didn't look/smell drunk, so I figured "What goes around, comes around"... So, I told him to pull up to the pump, and I went in and paid $5 for his gas. I ask for his name (Joseph) and waved him on his way.

Second time, it's an older lady in her 50's in a Pontiac. This is at the BP right off of Harrison. She tells me blatantly that she's doesn't have any cash and her credit card was just denied and she needs gas to get back to Durham. Being the nice guy that I am, I figure I'd spare $3 to get her back to Chapel Hill. I didn't ask for her name.

I've been nice to people lately because when I was in college, I was driving home and I ran out of gas 3/4 of the way home to Asheville (I thought I could make it) and a nice older couple helped spot me. I didn't have a cell phone back then and absolutely no cash because I was a broke college kid.

Second time someone helped me was when a radiator hose busted on me driving home. I got stuck in the middle of nowhere between Winston Salem and Stateville. It was another older couple. They thought I was a girl, that's why they stopped to help... go figure. So, they drove me to the nearest gas station, and I gave me some change to call my parents to come tow my car and pick me up.

Just sharing about experiences in giving back to society and lending a helpful hand (especially the older people who have kind gentle hearts, unlike the mofo youthful pricks in here... j/k )

$3 in a Pontiac Sunfire will get you to Durham... I'm nice, but I'm not going to fill up your tank

yeah..just imagine if she gets 10 people like him to give her $3. that is $30.00.. she probably has her own money for gas already b/c she is lying, and she'll spend that $30.00 on a nice steak or booze or something.

This dude has been doing this for YEARS. If you ever see him again punch him in the face. Haha, I even gave him a handful of change back in the day.

Sounds like he changed his story ever so slightly too, lol. He used to say he just dropped off his gf and needed $ to get back to gboro.

I've heard this same story but instead of gas the guy wanted money for a cheeseburger. They always get you with the "just dropped son off at state" story because you can relate with it and wouldn't want your parents in the same situation. gg on being nice but you are supporting the cycle of bums.

Yeah, I've heard the story except that the money was for a car that had a broken alternator that "was just down the street". I guess they switched to the gas story because a tank costs about as much as a new alternator nowadays

Ran into that old Pontiac lady yesterday. Gave me the story about Durham. I gave her two bucks and watched her pull around the other side of the gas station and leave. Last time I help someone in need,

I like milking my check card toward the end of the week. Pay at the pump only puts through a dollar and then by the time it clears the account is funded.

At least you didn't give the guy cash, you made sure he got some gas instead. My boyfriend and I got a story from some guys in a truck that they've been fishing down at some lake and couldn't get back to Johnston County. So he bought a plug from them! One time my Grandpa saw a "homeless and hungry" guy and went to buy him a couple of burgers, fries and a drink from McDonald's. When he brought it back the guy said, I don't want your food, I'd prefer the money. Grandpa mentioned that his sign said "hungry" on it, and he wasn't gonna give him cash and insisted on him taking the food. The bum, said no!! He just said, Well, beggers can't be choosers and drove off.
If I give money, which is not as often as I'd like because I rarely have cash on me, I try not to thihnk about them using it for unethical reasons-it makes me feel better.

I was at Mini City back in the day when a liquor store was up there. A bum hit my mom up for some "bus money" to get downtown then the fucker walked in the ABC store right in front of us.

I had some guy ask me for help in mid town manhattan on a rainy night. Claimed he was from Israel, lost his wallet, etc. and couldn't get to the Israeli consulate or something. I listened to his sob story and then went on my way.

I give an extra couple bucks to the guys selling newspapers on traffic islands becuase they are working and making an effort. Otherwise I may give them some coin change if it happens to be in my pocket.

i never give to beggars anymore. especially the ones that are like "can you give me a couple bucks to buy a can of fix a flat for my car that broke down"? or "i need some gas money to get to wilmington". if you are going to beg, atleast be honest about it. then i might give you something, but probably not since your honesty would be "i need some money for beer"

I gave a guy a beer several years ago from the deck at cantina. He came by and said he really wanted a beer. I laughed (being drunk) and gave it to him from my bucket.

Anybody ever had the crazy black lady outside of the Avent Ferry Blockbuster? She was all cracked out, and started in on us saying she just started "chemo for her breast cancer" and then proceeded to show us her "cancer tits". Pretty gross and disturbing. Needless to say we didnt give her anything.

last night at the gas station in Rocky Mount I was just pulling off from filling up, and this guy in a blazer stops, jumps out of his car right in front of mine and proceeds to say " Man, I was up in Richmond, and my durn fuel pump went out, and he charged me bout damn 200 dollaz to fix it, and im out of money and out of gas man, can you help me out with a couple gallons of gas, man?"

Fuck that, gas is 2.90 a gallon in rocky mount, he can fuck himself. I proceeded to drive off without saying anything.

If I had some money for everytime I have heard something along those lines such as "man my distributor cap and rotor broke, and the parts store is charging about $170 dollaz for a new one, and I gotta get to Tarboro"

This guy I proceeded to tell him "That shit dosent cost $170 dollars, I have bought one before, so get the hell out of here and stop fucking begging me for money"

I HATE HATE HATE the bums that stand in front of the liquor store at Mission Valley.

I remember that guy in the civic hatchback. Told me he dropped his girlfriend off at state and needed gas to get back to greensboro and when I told him no, he drove up the street, parked the car and went in an apartment. Don't give gas to people with these stories. I've heard them too many times.

A bum asked me for change and I offered him my lunch, but he refused. I thought that'd be it but another man came and started chewing out the bum for being a hypocrite and wanting money for liquor. (The language and metaphors were more colorful.)

I love that feeling of understanding when someone else says what's on my mind.

I've bought meals for many bums.

There's been probably 5-6 times that guys on Hillsborough street have asked me for help, and I tell them I'll be glad to get em something to eat, whatever they want. The 5-6 who actually said yes were out of probably 200 or so, and they were so fucking considerate and nice about it, I actually enjoyed helping them.

Im sure they still just went and bartered it for crack, but still, at least they were cordial.
