I've got a total hunk of shit video card that I've had for 4 years...an SIS chipset. Ever heard of that? The stupid thing has an onboard cooling fan that has shitty bearings so it's continually making a horrible noise. That's reason enough to ditch this piece.Anyway, I'm on a tight budget, and don't have money falling out of my asshole for a new card...so what are some good suggestions? I mean GOOD and CHEAP. Or at least better than what I have. Ideally, I don't want to fork out over fifty dolla used...anybody got a card they wanna sell?I'm currently using a 19" CRT, and I don't play many, if any, games...and none with uber graphics engines. I do CAD quite often. 8x AGP preferred.

if you run linux, a geforce 5200-5700 (depending on how much you want to spend). otherwise its a toss up between that and an ati radeon 9250-9600

Geforce 6200, or whatever the newest bargain card is. You can find one for around $50 I expect.^Those cards are nearly as old as his current card.

how exactly can you even possibly justify that statement? SiS has made chipsets for 20 years, there's no way to know what he has. also, just because a card is older, doesn't mean it doesn't handle the tasks well. a radeon 9600 or geforce 5700 >>>>> geforce 6200

as mentioned via pm, i have a geforce4 ti4400 (128mb, agp8x, dual output with 1 vga and 1 dvi)...it's new enough that it will RUN oblivion, just not well

5700 is NOT better than a 6200 unleees u're talkin about the turbo cache models whihc are absolute crap. i second the choice of the 6200 , many of them have masked pipelines that can be unlocked to make it a 6600 and still over clock like crazy .mine runs almost as fast as a 6600gt. not bad for a 50$ card.

the 6200 has 4 64bit pixel pipes, the 5200-5700 has 4 128bit pipes. they both have similar clock and memory speeds. what quality leads you to believe the 6200 is any way a better card? other than the number and when it was made.

How advanced is the CAD stuff you are doing? You could probably put an old Voodoo3 in there and be just fine.

6200 turbo cache model has 64 bit pipelines, the regular based on the nv43 has 128bit pipes.

sometimes i wish i could have a lot of money and buy the newest prototype and see some bad shit it could do[Edited on May 14, 2006 at 8:40 PM. Reason : .]
