Does anyone know who is teaching this summer and for what section? All it says in the course listing is staff. Anyway to find out before hand?
5/12/2006 4:33:35 PM
no, but COM110 was a huge waste of my time and tuition money. Ever sat through a show/movie/etc. that was so utterly stupid and pointless, and then felt dumber afterwards as a result? That is what COM110 is like. Have fun.
5/12/2006 5:22:25 PM
how bout comm 112? just as boring?
5/14/2006 1:40:07 PM
I took COM112 to fulfill my com elective, and I didn't show up for class half the time and got an A. Be prepared for tests straight from the notes, and lots of clips from movies.
5/16/2006 12:30:22 PM
i got a motherfucking c- in the class cause i lost 14 points due to attendance
5/16/2006 1:33:04 PM
^barring stuff like that, COM110 and COM112 are both easy A's. they are often taught by grad students, so maybe that is why it still lists "staff"
5/17/2006 7:55:24 AM
yea very easy class, i took it over the summer too...waste of time
5/17/2006 2:00:52 PM
Does anyone know anything about these guys teaching COM110 this summer session?S WINSLOW, M HEMMELGARN, D GRANT, N TEMPLE
5/22/2006 2:09:14 AM
I don't know any of those, and I'm a communication major
5/22/2006 3:01:01 PM
^^ 3 of them are listed as com grad students http://www.ncsu.edu/directory/
5/22/2006 3:16:53 PM
Com 110 is teh suck.We had to sit through 25 minutes of sorostitutes giving speeches about the Zodiac, and "proper puppy care" and "hand sanitation do-s and don't-s"::shudder::
5/22/2006 3:57:23 PM
... ^^ ON A REGULAR BASIS.
5/22/2006 3:59:17 PM
Yeah but definitely take it in a summer session.16 weeks of it, at 3 hours per class (once a week) made me want to die.
5/22/2006 4:00:42 PM
^^^^^^ yeah I'm in Winslow's section. She seems to be trying to make it as painless as possible.
5/25/2006 4:25:35 PM
I'm taking COM 110 right now. Our instructor is probably 2 years older than me. On our first day of class, when giving us an example of a thesis, she kept using "Joe Simpson was the main factor in causing Nick and Jessica's divorce."
5/25/2006 5:02:54 PM
I have Grant and she is making it as painful as possible.
5/25/2006 10:13:15 PM
^^ but how'd ya like the skirt today?
5/26/2006 10:42:07 PM
what do we study for the midterm?
6/5/2006 8:19:46 PM
COM is trying to make their degree more worthwhile and are now making the intro classes a lot harder and grade distro's now have a lot less A's and more D/F's
6/5/2006 10:51:11 PM
we def. figured that out this session
6/5/2006 11:10:19 PM
Grants test average was a 77 after the curve.
6/7/2006 11:14:37 PM
How many points was the curve?
6/8/2006 2:29:24 PM
4
6/8/2006 5:43:59 PM
about ten people got 0s for emailing the teacher their topic proposal paper a couple hours late. I understand that she has rules and I turned mine in exactly on the deadline, but she never stressed how important it was to turn it in on the exact time. I doubt there will be more than 2 A's in her section.
6/12/2006 9:12:53 PM
Are your guys' instructors having a hard time explaining the difference between the requirements for persuasive vs. CTA?
6/13/2006 7:56:56 PM
honestly, all she says is that remember for the persuasive, you are persuading and for the CTA she says that you are calling to action.
6/13/2006 8:08:17 PM
Yeah, very difficult to explain... but I also figure that they're just trying them out to see how well the speeches go. Hopefully they won't grade too harshly if the line between persuasive and CTA is blurred. I know my TA won't be grading harshly
6/13/2006 9:24:34 PM
I haven't taken this class, but it seems to me that a call to action's aim would be to inspire SOME sort of strong opinion in your audience. persuasion would be getting them to have your strong opinion.
6/13/2006 10:45:30 PM
A call to action is getting your audience to perform a certain action. The difference is this- a regular persuasive speech changes your audience's mind- it's very passive. If you actually GIVE your audience a physical action to complete that is more persuasive- that's why MMS is so effective.Example- I want to persuade people to save the whales. Your call to action could be- go to this web site http://www.savethewhales.com and sign a petition. Or write your congressperson- here is their address. The point with the call to action is to make it as easy as possible for audience members to complete. Action=active
6/14/2006 11:32:28 AM
^ Yeah, I understand that much. But giving a persuasive and then a CTA on the same topic without overlapping info is going to be tough.
6/14/2006 4:51:29 PM
ohhhh. When I did it we just had one persuasive speech-CTA.Wow. Well I guess if you pick a topic that you could look at from more than one angle or has a ton of evidence so you could use some in one speech and some in another.Or maybe you use lots of evidence in the persuasive and then really concentrate on the actual action on the CTA?
6/15/2006 10:15:49 AM
what a bad experience with Miss. Grant
7/2/2006 1:44:03 PM
^What grade did you get?
7/4/2006 12:48:49 PM
I got Rowe, anyone had her before?
7/5/2006 8:14:16 PM
