According to my sources, Pete Strickland will be joining Monte Towe, Larry Harris, and Sidney Lowe as an assistant basketball coach at NC State. I have no link for this yet, but I have it on the word of big named donors that Pete Strickland will be joining us.If I'm wrong, suspend me.

this is awesome
5/6/2006 7:36:10 PM
This is starting to work out as an fucking awesome staff.
5/6/2006 7:38:27 PM
Wack. Said this about a week ago...minus Monte Towe, which is already public.[Edited on May 6, 2006 at 7:39 PM. Reason : .]
5/6/2006 7:39:20 PM
it is still awesome
5/6/2006 7:43:47 PM
i read that monte towe article, and now i'm hopin for vinny del negro. how cool would that be
5/6/2006 7:45:32 PM
this will be just another thorn in the side of all the people that thought Sendek leaving was a bad thing.
5/6/2006 7:46:13 PM
I'd much rather have strickland than del negro because strickland opens up a DC pipeline.
5/6/2006 7:48:15 PM

5/6/2006 7:48:37 PM
^^The *new* underground railroad."The wolfpack railroad"
5/6/2006 7:51:05 PM
Strickland has also been a head coach for about 10 years. We're going to need as much college head coaching experience on this bench as we can.
5/6/2006 7:53:56 PM
Forgot to mentionQuinton Jackson will be the Director of Basketball Operations.
5/6/2006 7:54:28 PM
Quinton was a helluva player most on here prolly do not know about.Him and Vinny finished up the same year I think?
5/6/2006 8:00:08 PM
Shit must be pretty ugly at Univ of New Orleans if Towe is leaving I seriously contemplated returning to school there and walking on, just to play for him
5/6/2006 8:02:28 PM
I'm kind of curious to see how this works out, with former head coaches becoming assistants. Is this going to be coaching-by-committee, or will they defer to Lowe?
5/6/2006 8:19:06 PM
towe will be the "associate head coach" for what it's worth
5/6/2006 8:33:56 PM
former head coaches becoming assistants...and assistant becoming our head coach (yes, oversimplification)...it's a topsy turvy nc state world[Edited on May 6, 2006 at 8:35 PM. Reason : ^ he already said that part]
5/6/2006 8:34:51 PM
can someone let me know where towe and strickland have coached before. im just ignorant on them. ex. lowe coached memphis minnesota and assisted det
5/6/2006 8:40:31 PM
Doesnt wikipedia have info on them yet?
5/6/2006 8:41:51 PM
Towe has been at New Orleans the last 5 years and was an assistant here under Sloan. Towe was an assistant under Sloan with Florida all of those years as well. He also coached under Biedenbach at UNCA.Strickland coached at Old Dominion. He was head man at Coastal Carolina for like 5 years too. He went to Pitt and played with Coach Larry Harris. Also played high school ball at DeMatha High School where Morgon Wooten scores and is probably the best bball high school in the country. Jordan Collins went there I know.[Edited on May 6, 2006 at 8:49 PM. Reason : more info][Edited on May 6, 2006 at 8:49 PM. Reason : V What he said too.]
5/6/2006 8:42:25 PM
Strickland also coached at Coastal Carolina for about 7 years. He didn't do much, but he didn't totally suck it up. It was a deadbeat program anyways, and he came in following a guy who had a lot of nasty recruiting violations.
5/6/2006 8:43:45 PM
Just a thought amongst the bliss of our returning stars reviving our basketball team:Maybe we should not use so many in-house guys on our coaching staff?Since many of them already have similar ties to recruiting and coaching through state (or none if you are Lowe), then arent we limiting our recruiting market base in a big way?(i.e. Amato's pull in florida & Herb's recruiting ties up north, especially in NY)Thank god we retained Larry Harris, that is the best news we have gotten thus far.I think Lowe will be a great X's and O's coach and I love the guy, but the reason we went after Calipari, Barnes, and their ilk is because they (and their assistants) have wide recruiting markets with well-established pull all over the country.I just hope we arent missing out on something here amidst our excitement.[Edited on May 6, 2006 at 8:50 PM. Reason : Towe does have widespread college connections, but UNO is smalltime.][Edited on May 6, 2006 at 8:51 PM. Reason : sp]
5/6/2006 8:49:18 PM
Do you even know who Strickland is?and Calipari gets all his players from that basketball prep school in Laurinburg, NCBarnes is getting most of his players out of Texas too[Edited on May 6, 2006 at 8:56 PM. Reason : remembered the name][Edited on May 6, 2006 at 9:04 PM. Reason : tex]
5/6/2006 8:52:13 PM
I know him, his son and daughter went to my high school in MB and went to many of my bball games
5/6/2006 9:02:22 PM
5/6/2006 9:02:58 PM
Also, he has some experience with the Beach Ball Classic (bball tourney) in Myrtle Beach where a lot of highly ranked high school teams play every December.
5/6/2006 9:05:08 PM
^^^^Yeah I am sure all of Cal's recruits come from the same HS in NC and his assistants (which all could be head coaches themselves) dont help him out very much with it..... But anyways, fuck Calipari. He is a douche bag. We got a homegrown baller in there now.[Edited on May 6, 2006 at 9:05 PM. Reason : cant spell]
5/6/2006 9:05:18 PM
yeah, cause I totally wasn't exaggerating. But there is at least 4 or 5 players on the team right now from Laurinburg[Edited on May 6, 2006 at 9:09 PM. Reason : .][Edited on May 6, 2006 at 9:12 PM. Reason : A total of 6 players from NC]
5/6/2006 9:08:23 PM
In addition to all the guys officially on staff, you can be pretty sure that DT, Burleson, and probably Corch are going to be involved too.
5/6/2006 9:28:36 PM
5/6/2006 9:28:51 PM
I didnt know about this when I first heard about it, but its looking better and better the more I hear. This could be a really good thing, and I dont think with all of the experience on the coaching staff...that it will fail.
5/6/2006 9:37:42 PM
5/7/2006 2:33:33 AM
i heard that Q jackson was shady
5/7/2006 2:42:44 AM

5/8/2006 4:50:23 PM
5/8/2006 5:24:39 PM
^I have pack pride premiumAfter this coaching search however I do not trust itMy sources are donors who were at the press conference and know Lee Fowler personally.
5/8/2006 5:53:47 PM
wral has reported that both strickland and jackson are now on the staff.
5/9/2006 12:37:27 AM
5/9/2006 1:37:33 AM
is this official yet or is it still just smackr/packpride unconfirmed?
5/9/2006 12:21:18 PM
its strongly rumored at this pointi wonder how many other coaching staffs have multiple assistant coaches with head coaching experience?
5/9/2006 12:24:17 PM
don't know, but this is pretty sweet. how many other coaching staffs have this many alumni on it?
5/9/2006 1:00:50 PM
can someone enlighten me on why Pete Strickland is a good pickup?[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 2:18 PM. Reason : ,.]
5/9/2006 2:14:35 PM
Strickland isn't an alumnus
