Im thinking about getting this Antec Low Profile casehttp://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16811129161But from what ive read, it requires low profile AGP/PCI cards. I want to put my old 9800pro in there to use as a media server, but not sure if it will even fit.Anyone have experience with low profile cases?

I just got this at tiger direct for $34 http://reviews.cnet.com/Powmax_Micro_ATX_Silver_Case_with_Front_USB_and_230W_Power_Supply/4505-3030_7-30732383.html It'll fit almost any card you wanna put in there provided its not too long (7800 ultra or the like)

Compare your card to this low-profile version of the 9800:http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle.aspx?articleid=308I have worked with a number of tiny cases and if they say that you need a low-profile card then you certainly need one.[Edited on May 2, 2006 at 7:10 PM. Reason : +]

this case is only 3.8" high - that 9800pro in the picture (as well as mine) look bigger than 3.8"i dont think ive even seen a modern low profile video cardany suggestions?

Choose a different case or buy a new card. See if smoothcrim's suggestion works for you.

im not even seeing any "low profile" video cards - i'd buy one if i could find one
5/2/2006 7:15:38 PM
they dont make lo-pro videocards outside of a few low end PCI and oold agp ones.If you want small form factor, get a SFF style lunchbox pc, find a case that supports and AGP/PCIe extender/right angle adapter (good luck with that, I've never seen one for sale at retail), or just settle on getting a motherboard with decent onboard graphics.

Noen what micro atx mobo do you suggest with onboard graphics that'll have decent video output? HDTV preferably

the new ATI based IGP boards are pretty damn good, and actually the Intel 950 integrated video is really good for video and general multimedia
5/2/2006 8:12:19 PM
another note, if you go with ATI IGP you don't need a low profile video card (i guess that's what you are saying), probably better performance than any newer MX4000's that are low profile.i actually have an ATI IGP in a Antec Minuet right now i use as a space PChere are your full-height card microATX cases:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811190017http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811190005 (my current mediaPC case)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811190003[Edited on May 2, 2006 at 8:26 PM. Im thinking about this mobo for the Minuet case. Good Decent reviews except it doesnt come with a backplate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138234Prospero, do you like your Minuet? How much bigger than an xbox360 is it? Have you had any issues with heat?[Edited on May 2, 2006 at 9:04 PM. Reason : Decent]

stay away from the nf2 igp. It's old as hell now and doesnt really cut it for 2d image quality.
5/2/2006 9:19:12 PM
doesnt have s-video or dvi out, either

it's been great (i have the minuet, not the II version), spacious layout, nice paint, steel case, sturdy, a tad heavy for it's size, and a bit longer than it looks in the pictures, the airflow could be drastically improved as well (looks like it has in II), but in general no major complaints, great for a mediaPC b/c of it's 3.8" height. one minor thing is that their's only a couple drives out there that offer a silver faceplate.if you go low profile be sure that there are HDTV tuners that are low profile, i'm not too sure many are... but i can highly recommend the hauppauge pvr150-mce low profile card (non HD) as a good overall tunerbtw, it's about 1/2" taller than the 360, about the same width, but 7" longersadly this is the best low profile card you can get:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814135182your only other option would be ATI 92xx series[Edited on May 2, 2006 at 10:51 PM.
